Description

A beautiful, independent young woman with an unquenchable thirst for worldly experience rejects an advantageous marriage proposal, only to fall prey to the devious ministrations of a scheming friend who arranges her betrothal to an utter scoundrel. Ironically, her poor choice and the downfall which comes of it lead her to discover her true self--and, ultimately, her one true love. Adapted from the novel by Henry James. Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Supporting Actress--Barbara Hershey, and Best Costume Design.
