This campy cult classic is the most popular midnight movie of all time. A corn-fed, all-American couple named (appropriately) Janet and Brad, stumble onto a creepy castle one night when their car breaks down. It turns out to be inhabited by a collection of kinky Transylvanian freaks led by a mad bisexual transvestite who manages to seduce both members of the super-straight twosome. The outrageous antics are interspersed with rock 'n' roll song and dance routines featuring such well-loved numbers as "The Time Warp," "Sweet Transvestite," and "Touch-a, Touch-a Touch Me."

Description

A flat tire on a rainy night brings Brad and Janet to Dr. Frank N. Furter's castle on the night he is to unveil his latest creation - Rocky Horror - a party monster designed for Frank's own decadent indulgence. Video release includes a prologue highlighting the Rocky Horror midnight-movie phenomenon and concludes with a new music video of "Time Warp." Sequel: "Shock Treatment."

Notes

Shot in Eastmancolor. Released theatrically in New York City April 1976; released on video November 8, 1990. The box office gross for the film reached $150 million in August 1990. Based on the rock 'n' roll musical of the same name, which premiered in London, the film features several of the performers who appeared in the stage version. Susan Sarandon was awarded Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Club award, in February 1996, for her performance. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" opened and closed without much notice until 20th Century Fox decided to market it as a midnight movie in the early 1980s. It quickly exploded into a world-wide cult phenomenon unlike any other in movie history. Screenings became party-like events in which audience participation was half the show. Fans would dress up as all the major characters, scream out every line of dialogue in tandem with the characters and sing along with every song, while squirting water pistols and throwing toilet paper and rice at the screen. The "Rocky Horror" cult members formed a network almost as tightly-knit as that of Grateful Dead fans. The phenomenon began to wane towards the late-1980s, finally prompting 20th Century Fox to release the film on video in 1990 -- 15 years after its theatrical release. Songs by Richard O'Brien: "Science Fiction Double Feature" "Dammit Janet" "Over at the Frankenstein Place" "Time Warp" "Sweet Transvestite" "I Can Make You a Man" "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul" "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" "Wise Up Janet Weiss" "Rose Tint My World/The Floor Show" "Wild Untamed Thing" "I'm Going Home"
