Rated 5 out of 5 by from If You Haven't Reached, You Won't Get It I first watched this movie three years ago when a friend loaned it to me without my asking to view it. I watched it and thought it was a bunch of hocus pocus. At the time I was desperately looking for a new home and having a lot of trouble finding one (I had been searching for 6 months and my time was running out, I was desperate). She instructed me to ask the universe for what I wanted and to write down exactly where I wanted to live. How did she expect me to believe in something as simple as writing it down and asking for it and it will be yours? It's a ridiculous thought, but I was desperate and at this point willing to try almost anything. So, I took an old notebook (I didn't want to mess up may daily notebook with such rubbish) and wrote down "I want to find a house on Allen Avenue". It's the name of a street in my area that I really liked and wanted to live on. Maybe two weeks later, when walking over to that street to do some visualization (as per her recommendation), I realized that the street wasn't named Allen Avenue, as I had written, but Clark Street. So I went to my old notebook, scratched through Allen Avenue and wrote Clark over top. One year later I found the old notebook, and low and behold, I was living in a house on Allen Avenue, the first name that I wrote down and scratched out. I was shocked, how could this be? The universe took almost exactly what I had written the first time and made it a reality. I was humbled. I recently signed the movie out from the library and I got a an unbelievable rush. I completely connected with what they were saying because I had experienced it first hand. I now know that I have the power to change my future regardless of my passed and my disbelief. Religion has nothing to do with it, for it is greater than any religion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from faith books/videos like this are good for people to start their spiritual journey when they don't have a belief in God. When you do it's very difficult because these books - including Tolle's books do not include a belief in a higher power - and that's where the spirituality tract gets lost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from uncovering the truth of thought and desire In 2006, an Australian writer, Rhonda Byrne, produced a documentary movie called “The Secret”. This movie is based on the book called “The Science of Getting Rich” written by Wallace D. Wattles in 1910. This documentary was created by Prime Time Productions of Melbourne Australia. This documentary revolves around the concept of “Law of Attraction” and features several professional people such as authors, philosophers, doctors, physicists, business and spiritual leaders who talk about the power of positive thinking and its outcomes. This documentary elaborates on the different needs of human beings such as money, health, success, and relationships that can be achieved through a constant desire and positive attitude. The documentary narrates the true experiences of people who succeeded in their true desires by applying the law of attraction. It also reveals that all great philosophers of past centuries applied this law of attraction to accomplish their goals and desires. The documentary also focuses on the term called “attitude of gratitude” which also helps in achieving what one desires for. If one thinks positive, it will attract good things in life and if one thinks negative, then it will attract bad things in life. The documentary also suggests that people release these positive and negative energies in terms of vibrations to which this universe responds back. The documentary also suggest that the priciple of the Law of Attraction was suppressed and kept hidden from the public for many centuries by the people who were in the power. Main theme of this documentary is to tell the audience that this secret of living a successful life is within one itself as long as one knows how to apply the law of attraction. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Changing After I had watched this movie it helped me realize how much of life I didn't know. Its related topic to the way my life is currently going had shown me that there is more to the law of attraction than I know.. The power to change your life is just a controled thought away. I would really recommend this DVD to anyone who would be interested in making an improvement in their lives.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Get Conned When I first heard of The Secret and its popularity on the best-seller list, I felt incredibly sorry for all of the people who had been conned by this modern day snake oil in the form of a film and a book. After watching the film, I have to admit that instead of feeling sympathy for those who have been conned by this film, I now mostly feel bewildered. Within the first 20 minutes of the film, Bob Proctor, one of the “Secret Teachers,” proudly exclaims that he doesn’t understand how electricity works and goes as far to say that no one even knows what electricity is. Total rubbish and anyone who keeps watching after this point, other then for a laugh, seriously needs to take an introductory science class. The Secret is full of other outlandish half-truths and lies... they mention the first law of thermodynamics in order to explain how the law of attraction works... but they completely ignore the second law of thermodynamics (the second law of thermodynamics completely voids their stupid argument using the first law of thermodynamics to support the so called "law of attraction"!) They also claim that the "law of attraction" is a scientific law, but the "law of attraction" is absolutely NOT a scientific law, it is a metaphysical concept from the 18th century and anyone who doesn't know the difference between physics and metaphysics should really be looking to buy a dictionary before they think about buying any other books. Don't waste your time or money on this ridiculous snake oil. If you buy this, you've been conned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ok This is a layman's version of What The Bleep, but has over all some good information. Heavy on the commercialization of anything to do with manifesting etc, it detracts from the message. If you are only going to see one move on the new reality, check out What The Bleep Do We Know, Down The Rabbit Hole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What's new? There is nothing new in The Secret. It is a rehash of several thousand books that have been on the bookshelves for years and years. Too bad Oprah didn't realize there is little in it to instruct a person who is beginning their spiritual journey. The pundits tell us to start at the end with the pot of gold. May as well sing "when you wish upon a star..."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great film Of course this isn't something revolutionary. What this film does, though, is explain how and why "thinking positive" works. Sure, you've heard it all before. Just "think positive" your mother would say and everything will be fine. I, like many, would simply shrug it off as simply motherly love. A meaningless attempt to try to make us feel better and motivate us. What this film did for me was explain that there is something much more to those age old words. Something real. Something that really does work. Every time! Not just some trivial fluff. It also gives some techniques on how to keep positive. If some people were helped by it then is it not worthwhile? Is it not revolutionary for them then? ... Everyone should see this film but do so without an ego. Also, if you want to learn to better control your thoughts, I recommend "A course in astral travel and dreams". Those two forces combined are human evolution itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I loved it. It really shows what you can do with your life if you put your mind to it. I watch it often and it keeps me very motivated. I feel wonderful after watching it and it's already working for me. The best Mother's Day gift I could have ever received

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gross. You thought drinking orange juice after you freshly brushed your teeth left a bad taste in your mouth? Apparently you haven't experienced The Secret. Taste is a bad analogy as it implies harmlessness. Rather, reading this book (or watching the DVD for that matter) is akin to having your eyes carved out with rusty spoons. It is patronizing, insulting to the intelligence of anything more intellectually inclined than a tortoise. Actually that's being somewhat insulting to the tortoise. It's written simply, in the most bulleted, childish, infomercial-ist way possible. Basically, the WORST get-rich-quick scheme I've ever seen. And so conspiracy-esque that I wouldn't be surprised to see Tom Cruise show up in the credits, partnered with M. Night Shamylan. And ... my favourite claim of the novel is, by far, the idea that non-Western cultures are poor and disadvantaged simply because they have not had the audacity to pick up and read Byrne's book. A little harsh don't you think? Please don't waste your money ... you're better off buying Paris Hilton's book - this one makes her look like the next Salman Rushdie.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Same old hot air in a new balloon Everyone is familiar with faith healing, with those televangelists who tell you that if you send them your money you will be healed. If it doesn't work, it's because you didn't have enough faith. It's the same thing with the Law of Attraction. Here's why this is not a law: it cannot be tested. It can't be proven right or wrong. For a law to be scientific, it has to be able to be proven wrong. Plus the "scientific explanation" they give in this documentary is not science at all. It's just a bunch of pseudoscience. This has nothing to do with quantum physics. It's just a bunch of nonsense. There is no evidence that your mind sends out energy to the universe. These people are lying to you. Now I'm not trying to sound pessimistic. Trying to improve life is something everyone should do. But just imagining that you have what you want is not the way. You have to work for it. The problem with "the secret" is that it distracts people from solutions that really do work. You know what "The Secret" is? These people are just peddling a bunch of easy answers, telling people what they want to hear, and laughing all the way to the bank because they know how gullible people are.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A tangible reminder *It's not that any of the information in the great secret is unfamiliar, commonsensical or new-founded~~for me, if watched regularly~ it's a tangible, visual reminder to keep the right thoughts in the foreground and, not to mention, a guide that forces me to move along (AKA a kick in the butt), consciously, to my ultimate life and existence. Thank you to those who are inspired to delve deeper into thoughts of purity and optimism so as to reach the highest apex. I am inspired *

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This movie is......interesting At first blush this movie touts the same message most motivational speakers/books/movies spout - feel good about yourself and good things will happen - with a few splashy scenes intended to capture your attention and provide an allure of mystery. The message, however, is a sound one, albeit uniquely packaged, those who have positive outlooks on life generally tend to have better lives. They get the people they want, the things they want and their lives as a whole are good. People who expect bad things to happen generally have bad things happen. Think about it, if you go out on a date expecting to have a bad time, you do, you may even find yourself subconsciously sabotaging the date in a macabre self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way. Think about that date in a different way, more optimistic and you will have a good time, or at least, not a bad time. All in all, for a feel good, get you thinking, movie, this was a pretty good movie and one that generates conversation and at the very least will have you rethinking how you view the next calamity in your life, or perhaps, averting it altogether with the tools learned in this movie.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pretty Sad if this does it for you It is so sad that a book with such cheesy blatherings is getting so much attention. This is not meat to chew on. It is soda pop for the shallow. If you are really looking to change your life and attitude, maybe start here, but don't think that it is the answer. It is only the answer for the author who wants to sell books and make royalties based on your money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Secret? If you want to know the secret to this DVD, save your money and envision the following: "I am happy that insert your dream vision of your future here". Visualize how happy you'll be when X arrives and leave the rest to "the universe" or "quantum mechanics" or possibly Feng Shui. Apparently it doesn't matter how it works, it just works. Good luck with that. Save yourself from having to view the cheesey dramitizations of people finding or hiding the "secret", genies committing to "your wish is my command" and a rolling series of endorsements from notables in the "self help"/quantum mechancis set. If you're really intrigued by this stuff, I'm sure you'd be better off going to the local library and checking out a DVD. Meanwhile, I'll be visualizing getting my $30 back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life changing If there is one DVD that you buy this year- make it this one! I watched it with an open mind and this DVD has changed my perspective almost overnight. Within 5 days of watching this DVD, my life changed. A sea of possibilities have opened up for me and I find my life more meaningful and with more purpose. It is definitely not a message about just thinking positively. Give it a try- you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh You Nay Sayers! This movie is NOT just "Positive Thinking" repackaged. It's deeply internalizing a positive future to bring it into being. Really seeing yourself at the end of your desired outcome. Staying focused and acting on the opportunities that bring about your desired God given desires. No need to be a victim of negative circumstances any longer. Being who you were created to be and settling for nothing less. I myself am a Christian and did not enjoy the version with Esther Hicks. Way too "new age" for me. I have a feeling that is why they pulled her from the newer edit. This movie has lead me to a deeper truth by people who contribute all this to God, and the Jesus(as Savior and Son of God) of the bible. Wallace D. Wattles, Orison Swett Marden authors from 90-108 yrs ago wrote about this same thing with a Christian base. It is way more powerful than this movie but this is a good place to start. I really enjoyed the movie. The law of attraction is a universal law put in place by God creator of the universe, so it works no matter who you are. As a Christian the results are far more amazing. In my humble opinion. Enjoy! God Bless. If you google the other two authors I mentioned you will find their free e-books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the original The first review mentioned that Esther Hicks was edited out - actually I just purchased this today in the Belleville store and viewed it again as I got home. I have seen both and this new public version has actually been reworked to allow the information to be more easily understood by people who have not been working with this material before. I found it an excellent tool for sharing with my hypnosis and healing clients - there is nothing new here for those of us who have pursued these lines of thinking before, but both this more publically-palatible version, as well as the first version, are just so very well-done, I applaud all the efforts that have been put into them both. We don't have any idea why Esther Hicks (Teachings of Abraham) did not participate in this version, but her sequence was not just edited out. The whole presentation has been expanded upon and this is much appreciated. It hits home (ie: resonates with everybody where they live!) and very successfuly creates a bridge for the traditional person to step into new thinking, or incorporate this perspective into their own lives. I especially like that this whole approach to quantum physics and the empowerment available does not contradict or insult traditional spiritual and religious beliefs, opening the door for everyone to find value in the message. Again, well done.

"The secret" is why I have a beautiful home, a wonderful husband, a gorgeous son, a booming business and the future is so bright my stomach is flipping. This DVD will be a gift I give to all of my friends and family. I am so excited to see the change that will come about when everyone puts "the secret" into motion, it will change the world!!!! Do your part for change and watch this, I guarantee that it will change your life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspirational! Although many of the principles addressed in 'The Secret' are based on common-sense and positive thinking, the film reminds you to stay focussed on that which is important. To inspire your life goals. To be grateful for the things you have. To follow your bliss. To create positive energy around you. It is inspiring to hear the many success stories from those involved in the film. I was moved by some of the 'miracle' recoveries of those suffering illness. Will watch this film again and again to be reminded of everything I am grateful for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This version is different from the original Be warned that Esther Hicks is edited out from this extended version of the Secret. To me without her in it, this version is not that ...hmmm...enlightening! :) I guess I am biased because I saw the original version with Esther Hicks and I really liked that version.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 99% Filler...In A Pretty Package "The Secret" is a clever re-packaging and hollow expansion of a simple 2-word phrase that everybody has already heard a hundred times: "Think Positive!" Seriously, that's it. This is not hidden knowledge, it is nothing revolutionary, it is simply a brilliantly marketed piece of common sense that is the new "saviour" of the disenchanted. Now, if you're willing to pay $30 to hear variation upon variation, and theory upon theory based on that, then go ahead and toss the cash at this thing. Otherwise, don't buy into the window-dressing and simply make an effort to "think positive" in your daily life...you'll save $30 and get the same results without the mind-numbing filler. Regardless, it remains a hollow idea that primarily boils down to "wishful thinking". There are much more effective ways of improving your life beyond "obsessively focus on what you want". However, I am not completely disregarding the basic principle...more people absolutely need a more positive, focused attitude. It simply irritates me when marketers package common sense, dress it up real pretty and try to sell it as a revolutionary idea at an inflated price.

Allow yourself to see past the schmaltzy reinactments and montages and focus on what the teachers have to say - their message is HUGE and can change your life if you're willing. Oh and don't worry, there are no references to "God" and there's no religious brainwashing involved.

I have increased my wealth, health, peace and prosperity in a dramatic way. It really works. I make it a point to watch a little everyday and take notes. The book "The Secret" is also great too. The combination is dynamic. "See you at the top"
