A young French peasant girl sees a vision of a "beautiful lady" near her home in Lourdes in 1858. Her story brought her both adoration and derision. Based on the novel by Franz Werfel. Academy Award Nominations: 12, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay. Academy Awards: 4, including Best Actress--Jennifer Jones.

Notes

Film debut for actress Jennifer Jones. Linda Darnell portrays the Virgin Mary. "The Song of Bernadette" won the first annual Golden Globe awards (in 1944) for Best Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture Actress.
