Rob Reiner practically invented the entire mockumentary genre with this film, a brilliantly parodic slap at the egos and sleaze of the rock 'n' roll industry. This Is Spinal Tap follows the exploits of a once-glorious band attempting to launch a big comeback tour in the United States. Ridiculously incompetent management, highly moronic infighting and public inattention threaten the tour from the outset. As the tensions build, so do the stupid mistakes - with gut-splittingly funny results. The satirically talented actors are accomplished musicians in their own right, lending some truly funny credence to songs like "Smell the Glove" and "Sex Farm." If you want to see rock 'n' roll get its comeuppance, see this movie. This DVD version contains rare TV appearances and a new audio commentary by Spinal Tap - in character!

Synopsis

Rob Reiner's hilariously deadpan mock rockumentary about an imaginary heavy metal band hitting the skids during their U.S. tour. Shot in faux cinema veritT-style, the film subtly lampoons just about every rock 'n' roll clichT (and every rockumentary clichT) in the book as it follows these fallen rock idols from one increasingly disastrous gig to another. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer impersonate the dinosaur rockers, performing megahits such as "Hell Hole," "Sex Farm," and "Smell the Glove" in between interviews in which they babble pretentiously about their "artistic vision."

Description

A brilliant, documentary-style satire of a has-been Heavy Metal band trying to make a comeback but succeeding only in looking vain and ridiculous. Includes the video "Bitch School" from the album "Break Like The Wind." see "Return of Spinal Tap," the 1992 sequel.
