Daredevil flying, dogfights and crashes are at the heart of this silent classic about World War I's air war. Winner of Hollywood's first Oscar for best picture, "Wings" follows the fortunes of two young fliers, played by Richard Arlen and Charles Rodgers. When Arlen accidentally shoots down his friend's plane, he goes on a killing spree that brings the horror of war home to the audience. Clara Bow plays the Parisian woman both men love, and Gary Cooper has a supporting role as a fellow pilot. Actual footage of air battles adds to the film's realism.
Silent film classic (and the first Best Picture winner ever) about two World War I pilots in love with the same woman. Gaylord Carter performs a digitally recorded film score at the console of a magnificent Wurlitzer pipe organ. Academy Awards: 2, including Best Production (Picture).
