Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The definite collection to own! so far! This box set contains The Beatles 13 remastered albums including the Past Masters and a special documentary D.V.D. The price is around $230 but don't let that fool from buying this great collector set. Remember this review is for the stereo set and not the mono. As for the actual product itself, the remastered C.D's sounds great through your C.D players or your iPod. For the first seven albums, they were meant to be listened in mono audio but Apple (Apple Corps not Apple Inc.) has carefully mix the tracks into proper channels so it sound like they were originally recorded in stereo. As for the rest of the C.D's, that’s where the stereo really shines. While listening to the tracks from the Sgt. Peppers album you can tell that they had cleaned up the music by reducing grain and hisses from the tracks but still keep it original as possible like John Lennon swearing quietly in “Hey Jude” by accident. The packaging consists of a nice big black box with a paper sleeve with the band logo on it that goes over the box. As for what is inside, there are two compartments for the discs. Apparently the first batch of the box sets came with shrink wrapped albums but the damned grew so it later came without the shrink wrap. The only gripes I can find with this box set is that some of the discs that I received are scratched but I had no audio skips or distortions. It is much cheaper to buy the albums separately than to buy this box set because it is almost $40 – 50 more just for the box and a D.V.D. After owning this for five months, I can definitely recommend this box set to anyone that is a Beatles fan or wanting to get into the band's history. 5/5 Apples.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Beatles in crystal clear remastered stereo--I FEEL ALIVE ! This is heaven for any Beatles fan who wants to experience their sounds in remastered stereo heaven! The sounds are so clear, beautiful and bright they are dazzling--and I would swear I was sitting right there next to them as they were originally recording this timeless music. The single CDs all come in their own fold-out containers with beautiful artwork and photos; the double discs come in their own style of packaging which was constructed so that the two CDs could fit inside them without becoming easily scratched when you remove them. Even the artwork on the CDs themselves very well done! There are great liner notes and photos to admire, too. But it's the core product I'm focused on--these marvelous CDs in stereo and the sound that blows me away when I listen to them. Believe me, I've never heard The Beatles sound so good. Sure, some of their albums earlier on weren't released in stereo; but that makes it all the more exciting to hear the stereo versions--you can practically hear each member of the band's movements as The Beatles performed every song to perfection--and beyond! It's tough to list which songs I enjoyed the most--there are so many of them! Just listening to "Love Me Do;" "I Saw Her Standing There;" the beautiful "P.S. I Love You" and more stun me with the high quality control sound--the clarity is magnificent! "Revolver;" "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Magical Mystery Tour" and other albums come off sounding terrific, too. Talk about unblemished music! In addition to the albums and the CD entitled "Past Masters," we get a bonus DVD of mini documentaries about the band, their music and George Martin so we can have even more understanding of why this music remains so hot after all these years--great! If you were concerned about some of The Beatles' albums being altered unfavorably by this stereo box set release, you can heave a huge sigh of relief. The music on each and every track is nothing short of excellent with crisp, clear vocals and instruments that sound like they're being played right next to you all coming together to produce some of the greatest music of all time. Beatles fans would do well to add this to their collections; you won't be disappointed!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Still not the definitive Beatles box set As good as it is, it is still not the definitive Beatles box set. The remastering is not up to the current technological best standard. No Dolby 5.1. Also for Canadian purchasers many of the original album releases are missing. Missing albums are "Beatlemania", "Twist and Shout", " Long Tall Sally", "Beatles '65", "Something New", Beatles VI, and "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow".They try to cover these ommissions with the Past Masters CD. To get most of these original Canadian release albums, you must purchase the Beatles Capitol long box sets volumes 1 and 2. All are present except for "Twist and Shout". The "Long Tall Sally" album has the American " The Second Album" title. Perhaps the next effort by EMI will be all inclusive and even better technical quality.
