Legend

Performers Bob Marley & the Wailers

Island | August 13, 2002 | Compact Disc

Legend is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 3.
The classic Bob Marley album, the one that any fair-weather reggae fan owns, Legend contains 14 of his greatest songs, running the gamut from "I Shot the Sheriff" to the meditative "Redemption Song" and the irrepressible "Three Little Birds." Some may argue that the compilation shortchanges his groundbreaking early ska work or his status as a political commentator, but this isn't meant to be definitive, it's meant to be an introduction, sampling the very best of his work, and it sticks to his later output for Island Records. And it does that remarkably well, offering all of his genre-defying greats and an illustration of his excellence, warmth, and humanity. In a way, it is perfect since it gives a doubter or casual fan anything they could want. Let's face it, the beauty and simplicity of Marley's music was as important as his message, and that's captured particularly well here. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Babies love Bob Years ago, I took to soothing my infant son to sleep by swaying to this music with him in my arms, gently patting him on the back in time with the music. It never took him more than 3 songs before he was snoring gently. My niece recently had a baby and I ordered a copy of this CD for her. Best lullabies ever! PS: My son grew up to be a drummer. Go figure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jaspal Juneja, Legend[remaster], Chapters A legend, role model, motivater and inspiration. Bob Marley truly sent his messages of love, peace and co-operation amoung others in form of songs. his work made many others follow his footsteps and continue to spread the words of wisdon.he once started. His work, contributions and diediction to reggae music left lasting impressions for an entire lifetime, he is one of the many legends whose songs had passed down from generation to generation, the knowledge of who he was, where he resided and what he stood for was mainly the questions on everyone mind when they first acknoledged who he was. Throughout the years after his death, his children continued thier father's legacy in music, and movies. They all represented some form of their father and his lifestyle. "Legend" has many of his top hits and everyone was a hit song, the sales if his CD's in stores and online, has been a No. 1 in many countires. This is truly one man who's music will live on and on. Bob marley was accompnaied by his talented band, The Wailers, they also had carried on his music . His religion, being a rasta, had nothing to do with the oppopsition of the Goverenment and the rebelling of any social power in any country. His songs simply showed the life and wonders of a man trying to live in society. The love that he bought with his songs, to have everyone singing with him, made it eventful at all his concerts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some of the most important music you will ever hear I'm a little embarrassed to admit that this CD is the only Bob Marley CD that I own. I play this CD all the time. It is a fantastic collection of really great and really influential music. Maybe I haven't expanded beyond this collection because this collection is so good, covering all the important songs in the Marley catalog. This album is so incredibly addictive! It is a CD that everyone likes. I often play it when people are over or when the family are doing fun things together. It is rare that it doesn't get put on repeat.
