Rolling Stone called it "the album of the 1980s." We call it London Calling. You, no doubt will come up with your own name, but it is likely to fall somewhere between "insanely wild" and "bloody brilliant." Everyone seems to develop their own special relationship with this record. It seems to have caught the Clash at the height of their punky spirit, mixing all manner of reggae, soul, funk and of course, as the title suggests, rock. This digitally remastered album features all 19 of the original tracks, each popping with the unleashed energy of punk's most notorious rioters.

Editorial Notes

The LP issue of LONDON CALLING did not list the 19th song, "Train In Vain." This omission is carried over on the CD packaging: "Train in Vain" is not listed on the cardboard box or insert, but it is on the CD.The Clash: Joe Strummer, Mick Jones (vocals, guitar); Paul Simonon (vocals, bass); Topper Headon (drums, percussion).Additional personnel includes: The Irish Horns (brass); Micky Gallagher (organ); Baker Glare (whistling). All tracks have been digitally remastered by Bill Price. If punk rejected pop history, London Calling reclaimed it, albeit with a knowing perspective. The scope of this double set is breaktaking, encompassing reggae, rockabilly and the group's own furious mettle. Where such a combination might have proved over-ambitious, the Clash accomplish it with swaggering panache. Guy Stevens, who produced the group's first demos, returns to the helm to provide a confident, cohesive sound equal to the set's brilliant array of material. Boldly assertive and superbly focused, London Calling contains many of the quartet's finest songs and is, by extension, virtually faultless.
