Hailing from Vancouver, the Matthew Good Band came up behind to fill in the space left open by 54.40 as that outfit settled into veteran status. With the same noisy intensity of 54.40's early stuff, MGB's Ray Gun EP in 1997 offered five songs of deeply personal searches and generational anthems, including "Generation X-Wing" and "Haven't Slept in Years." Along with the intensity, Matthew Good brings a welcome sincerity to modern Canadian rock that is refreshing in the face of more jaded bands.
