Don't even bother trying to figure out what the Flaming Lips are trying to do with their albums. These guys are wacky, loud, ironic, strange and, it goes without saying, experimental. The Soft Bulletin continues the band's long tradition of cramming as many instruments as possible into one album; a discerning ear can hear gongs, harps, a grand piano, bells, pipe organ, strings, oboes, choral harmonies and a little guitar here and there. It's an eclectic and oddly catchy combination that fans and newbies will enjoy with gusto.
