The Classical Kids Collection

Children's Group | September 1, 2005 | Compact Disc

The Classical Kids Collection is rated 5 out of 5 by 2.

The perfect collection for initiating your kids into the colourful world of classical music, this four-album set offers a magical combination of storytelling, history and, of course, music. In Mr. Bach Comes to Call, the great composer returns to Earth to encourage a little girl tenaciously practicing the piano, dreaming of being a musician. Beethoven Lives Upstairs features the great composer settling into an apartment in Vienna above young Christoph’s home. Also offering Mozart’s Magic Fantasy and Vivaldi’s Ring of Mystery, this collection of four previously released albums is a stunning and imaginative guide to classical music history. With the engaging narrative and excellent excerpts available in The Classical Kids Collection, your children will be maestros before they know it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved by whole family As I drive we have an agreement, I get to listen to traffic or weather when even I want, and otherwise the kids get to choose the tunes. Well, I was tired of my toddler's limited musical appreciation (Christmas CD, Thomas CD or the Jazzberries- good but after 8 months straight, argh!) or telling stories continuously... So, I tried the Vivaldi CD we'd been given as a shower gift 3 years earlier. We all loved it, toddler, adults, grandparents, carpooling visitors. We even bought the entire collection (gave the extra Vivaldi away). Not only did this expand his willingness to listen to ALL genres of music, classical through R & B but it makes driving much more intellectually stimulating. From my son's questions about concepts in the stories we've had the opportunity to discuss our views on social issues from death (Vivaldi, Beethoven) through physical limitation (Beethoven), fear and bravery (Mozart, Bach) and friendship (Beethoven, Mozart). Vivaldi and Beethoven are historical fiction related to the composer, Bach is as well, but it is "him" telling his story to a modern day little girl, Mozart's magic fantasy is a variation on the "Magic Flute" opera with English-ized song lyrics of your favorite songs from that opera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! Our whole family loves the Classical Kids CDs. My 4 year old and 5 year old sit for ages by the CD player listening to the stories. They are both interesting and amusing, and the music is beautiful. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants to introduce their children to classical music.

Editorial Notes

Without question, this is the best way to introduce young children to the major classical composers and their music. Adults learn a lot too. Ages three to ten and up. ~ Bob Hinkle
