Performers Yellowman

Yellowman ruled dancehall in the early '80s, scoring hit after hit for producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes. In the years directly following Bob Marley¹s death, Yellowman almost single-handedly moved reggae music away from The Wailers' blueprint of conscious lyrics, luscious harmonies, and Rasta redemption. Yellowman's new style used taut, hard-edged rhythm tracks and shifted the lyrical emphasis towards sex, comedy, and non-stop boasting. ZUNGGUZUNGGUGUZUNGGUZENG! is one of the best releases of Yellowman¹s career, featuring great backing tracks by The Roots Radics and The Hi Times Band, wicked production from Junjo and Errol Thompson, and loads of The Yellow One¹s patented chats. The title track proved to be one of his most enduring hits, but there are many equally strong tunes here-especially "Who Can Make the Dance Ram," which successfully mixes Sammy Davis Jr. with "Three Blind Mice." This album also proved that Yellowman is more than just a sex-addicted braggart. His rootical lyrics to "Can¹t Hide From Jah" and "Jah Jah Are We Guiding Star" are some of the most cultural toasts he ever recorded.
