    Not Worth The Risk

I owned a regular (non-touch) Kobo for a year (broke last night) and only played with the touch version in the store... This isn't a review of the touch version per say, but rather of Kobo company as a whole.

Based on my experience with non-touch version (horrid design, many problems) and my experience with the company (two MONTH turn around for a simple inquiry with customer service), I just wanted to warn any potential buyers to be careful when buying this product.

My opinion is that Kobo obviously don't care about their users' experience and only want to unload their half-complete products on people as fast as possible.

Today, I purchased a Sony eReader for $120 (cheaper than Kobo, if you don't consider Chapter's sale), it offers more features (mp3 player, web browser, etc), and Sony is a much more trustworthy company than... Kobo.

My two cents. Thanks for reading.

I agree. My kobo touch broke last night. Although I had some problems with it I liked the Kobo itself. What I didn't like at all was the quality of customer service (NIL). Took forever to even get an answer, and their solution (which was, 9 times out of 10, to do a factory reset) rarely solved the problem. Didn't have to think long before deciding to buy my next e-reader from another company.

I too had problems with my Kobo four months after I bought it. Started the csr process in August and I it took until December to get resolved with a refurbished unit that has the same problems as the first one. Same Tier 2 team that took weeks to respond back. I had bought a new unit and it was replaced with a refurbished unit seems pretty arrogant to me but so not worth the hassle of dealing with them again. Not sure what other readers are good. Any advice? Kam

I loved my 2 Kobos but they both malfunctioned. I want to by a new one but am hesitant due to the awful service I am dealing with. The company will tell you anyting generic to get you off the phone and then email you that you have a technical problem and have been elevated to tier 2 status. Then nothing. Technically, the replacement Kobo they sent me was refurbished and won't even turn on from a frozen screen. It won't reset or power up on full battery. Kobo is a great product when it works. Their rep even told me that I should just go buy a new one because my first generation Kobo was "such a low-quality device". Thanks for letting me spend more money when I still do not have 1 working Kobo. Then he told me that I can also buy more warranties that could be up to $59+. WOW. That's confidence in the product.. If you deal with Kobo make sure you have your incident # and that the rep passes along your concerns. I was waiting for a return communication for days and when I call the help that was promised, that included financial compensation, wasn't even documented as a request for assistance.
I guess I will continue to wait to see if Kobo can redeem themselves. BUYER BEWARE!

I fully agree with Tracey! Do *** not *** buy a Kobo!! I am currently dealing with a similar issue and have had a horrible and slow response from the technical department. I had my Kobo for about 4 months and it died too. After I was finally bumped up to tier 2 they told me to send the Kobo back and they would look at it. It would either be a refurbished model or they would send it back fixed (but not guaranteed). All of this on my expense. This shows how much they stand behind their own product! Very pathetic! I am currently looking for a new ebook reader for all the members of my family, but I doubt it will be a Kobo.

Thank you for your interest Jane. I caved and bought a Touch because I wanted to continue reading my Kobo books that I was in the middle of when mine original died. After hearing the reps say that there was nothing they could do for me if I didn't want to pay to "try" to fix my old Kobo I asked for an egift card towards an upgrade. I rec'd a coupon for a free book on Kobo books Oh well.. I now have paid for 2 Kobos, rec'd 3 and only have one that works. Fingers crossed. If I didn't stand my ground and mention that I commented on their poor customer service, I would still be out of luck. The reps kept saying that there was nothing they could do. They then changed their mind and gave me the coupon. 120211000636 Frustrating.

Hi Tracey, I would really like to follow up with Kobo about your concern for their customer service. Would you be able to share your Kobo Customer service incident number? Thanks, Jane

I've had my Kobo for about four months now and I absolutely love it. When ereaders first came on the scene I was very resistant to the idea. I couldn't imagine not having a book in my hand with real pages to turn, but I gave the Kobo a shot and now I'm a total convert. I haven't had any problems with mine and it's so easy to use. Mainly I download books from my library but I've actually found myself buying more books online. The pricing is very affordable and with the regular Kobo email coupons they're even more discounted. I now prefer to read on the Kobo and it's the perfect size for my daily commute.

I've pre-ordered it two weeks ago and I am now waiting painfully for the local bookstore to restock. However, I've played with the demo ereaders at the bookstore and I was so thrilled because of the new features, such as the touchscreen and the page-roller. It's smaller than the old gen (which I have already sold to upgrade to the new one) and I've already immersed myself in my daydreams in which I am carrying my new Kobo, sitting on the sky train, holding it and reading it and looking all high-tech.

Anyway. The font style and size adjustment are more convenient, as well, compared to the old one. I've also tried the touchscreen keyboard and the search function. Oh oh oh, and I can't wait to get started on my quest to acquire all book awards--gosh, I'm such a kid, haha.

PLEASE HAVE MORE STOCKS SOON!!! I WANT IT IN MY HANDS AND IN MY POSSESSION!!!! 3 3 3

I love my first Kobo touch which I have had since the first of July. My husband discovered it and so I bought him one through Chapters for his Nov, birthday. It is this one that has quit working ( after 8 weeks of use). It is defective. It happens. Chapters just sell them and after 30 days they do not care and Kobo-well it has been since Dec 10th and they are still telling me things to try to make it work. It is a dud!! Face up to it and re

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kobo. this is my 2nd Kobo. I bought the first version when it first came out and upgraded to this version. I was also in the store not long ago and couldn't say enough good things about it to 2 customers who were curious about the device. I gave it such good reviews that they both ended up buying one.....I should have asked for commission!
