I absolutely love reading on the Vox when I do it, but it does have a few downsides. One is that when you remove a book from your library on your Vox, it's completely removed from your Kobo Library...I don't know if that's a feature on all the Kobos, or if it's just the Vox, but it's definitely something I don't like. I downloaded a bunch of free books, mostly classics, which are readily available on Kobo's site, but I didn't want them all to be in my Vox's library because I had to scroll through them all, so I removed them, but they were removed from both libraries. I think that the fact that they were free titles might be why they're completely removed though, as I noticed when you purchase books they go into a separate section in your Kobo library on their website under "Purchases", and I haven't deleted any of my purchased books, so I'm hoping that they'll remain in that library and they won't be deleted like the free titles were. I also don't like how you can't search through your library. It would be so much more helpful to search by typing in a name than it would be to scroll. I also have a Kindle, and both of those are features that the Kindle has...and it's one that I had hoped the Kobo ereaders had in common. Again, I'm not sure if it's a feature limited to the Vox though.

It was a bit difficult to figure out how to transfer the epub files that I already had onto my Kobo Vox at first because most of the FAQ's on Kobo's website often have instructions that work for everything, BUT the Kobo Vox. It is rather easy once you figure it out though. For unprotected files, you just plug your Kobo Vox into your computer and drag the files into the main folder, then you go into your library, go to settings and manually import them. For protected files however, you have to put the into your Digital Editions file and then I used the Freading app, and they worked in there. :) Now that I've figured that out, it's awesome! I have a book blog, so I use sites like Netgalley and I can just download them straight off the website itself and into my Reading app, I love it! :D You can also use the Freading app to borrow books from your library if they have the feature enabled, which is really great and easy to use, too! :D

I do really like the Vox as a tablet though, and it's great for games. I'm still trying to work out how to get all of the apps I want, but so far it's been pretty easy. The one thing I have noticed though is that every so often the Vox will have apps freeze on you. I think some of the time it's because you'll accidentally nudge one of the touch buttons at the bottom, but sometimes it seems to do it on it's own. For the most part this hasn't been an issue though, and I think it's more that you have to get used to the buttons on the bottom. The touch screen itself is very easy to use, and it cleans easily with cloth. I don't have a case for mine yet, but I'm planning to get one. Unfortunately, most of the cases available are rather plain, and the ones with actual designs fit other Kobo models, but not the Vox, as it's quite a bit larger than other Kobos.

Overall, I really like my vox! Most of my issues are pretty small, like the whole delete issue, and the fact that I can't search through my books. I absolutely love that I can do both of those things with my Kindle, and hopefully Kobo will eventually pick up those features because they really do make it better. Other than all that, it's been great to have. I also love that I can play music on it and watch Youtube videos! It's definitely an amazing device to have, and if you want an ereader that will let you do other things, like internet browsing and borrowing from the library. Internet browsing works on some Kindles, but not on the one I have, and as far as I know, you cannot borrow from the library with any Kindles, so for me, both of these are nice features to have in my second device. :)

    FANTASTIC!

I was skeptical about purchasing this Kobo eReader after reading all the horrible reviews. However, the Vox I bought has been great. Ive had it for a few weeks now and had no issues.
The sound and picture quality is awesome on it to watch videos online, streams well while online. Works as a great little tablet as well.

The reading quality is great! Once I figured out how to check out books and get the proper reading apps (did take some time to figure out) Im well on my way and have read a few books already!

Its compact and light! Easy to take to work with me and read on lunch breaks!

    vox vs touch?

How is the Kobo Vox vs the Touch? I would like it more for reading, but maybe use it a bit on the web and for childrens books. Is it easy on the eyes like the touch or is there a backlight that makes it like reading something on an ipod?

OOPS i meant if you want to shop on the Vox or Touch you can easily...and go check out the kobobooks. com web site, they have all the specs that may help your decision...it looks lite though your a Vox person...either way they are both excellent readers...

It's anti glare so it does not hurt the eyes or strain at all, even night time reading. It has a night reading option however i personally dont like it, yet lots like it. The battery life is only 6-8 hours dependent on unlike the approx. month with the Touch. They are both great products it just depends what you want. If you want just a reader mostly get the Touch, however if you want the option of easily surfing the net, checking emails, playing a few games, downloading apps, color and lots more then get the Vox..personally i don't like shopping on either however if there is a specific book i want i dont mind I like a huge screen hence the laptop however if you have to buy online you can easily on both. Yes i own both.

I reviewed this turkey a few days ago before returning the device. I'm not surprised now that the phone service was so bad. Kobo has been 100% acquired by Rakuten.

My tech friends can't get jobs in Canada, so I'm doing my part and sticking with CDN companies. All Blackberry from here on out.

By the way - chapters is great at returns, for those of you needing to return your Vox paperweights. I still love those stores.

What's the REAL motive for these ridiculous negative reviewers? 1 Star... Doesn't make sense. As a computer engineer I give the Kobo Vox 5 Stars for quality, reliability and features. I thoroughly enjoy my Vox... works great. Returning to a previous nonsense review... I accidentally pushed my Vox off the bed (pure accident) to the hard floor, well over a 12" fall, and zero damage. Nothing. And to recommend Blackberry! Seriously! I listen to the news, and RIM loyalty is fading fast. Hardly a good time to recommend Blackberry "Anything!"

Russ - guess you didn't READ the link you posted!!! Canadians will still be able to get jobs at Kobo in Toronto, since operations will be staying there! Not sure if they'll get rid of the Sri Lankan outsourcing company handling tech support calls when they hire more staff, but I think the acquisition could be a good thing!

    Jane at Indigo

Hi Russ, Upon closing the acquisition, Kobo will continue to maintain its headquarters, employees, and management team, led by Mike Serbinis, based in Toronto, Ontario.
