There was a time when the irewards card had good value. This was 10-12 years ago or so when it cost only $10 with the same 10% off benefit and it also gave you $5 gift certificates for every $200 you spent on books as well. (And the gift certificate did not have the money-scamming condition of having to spend a ton of money at once before you could redeem it either, like the ones they give you now.) In those days, it actually WAS cheaper to shop at Chapters. These days the irewards card is two and a half times more expensive, they no longer reward you with gift certificates for spending a high spender at their store, and even with it there are so many other cheaper options that the only excuse for you to still be shopping at Chapters and buying their silly "spend money to save money" rewards card is if you are buying textbooks. If you really want to save money (while helping the environment and saving shelf space at the same time) you should be buying books electronically. They are much cheaper, and ebook websites such as Diesel Ebooks (my personal fave) have killer rewards programs that you are enrolled in just for buying a book there. I switched to ebooks years ago and have not wasted my money on overpriced Chapters books more than once a year since then, and when I did it was only because I was looking for an older book that had not been published in ebook format yet. I really encourage everybody to try it out, you won't regret it.

Thank you so much for your comment. I was actually contemplating on whether to purchase the I-rewards card for buying textbooks for my Masters program...so glad you recommended Diesel Ebooks - I really enjoy the site & the prices are brilliant!!

Thanks also! I was seriously contemplating whether or not to go through with an iRewards membership.

you make some very good points and it is a good comment thank you i just keep my spending low and not buy the card

Thanks for this. It as my deciding vote! I was already thinking pretty negatively about the price of the card and the seemingly very little rewards. The "i" in the "irewards" must be referring to the company, not us! I know they have to make money, but it seems as if it's just another scheme to me.
