I find these stones provide a moderate cooling effect on straight whisky and seem to promote better flavour recognition. Someone who likes an ice-chilling effect would not find them cooling enough. Besides the flavour effect is their aesthetically pleasing look in the glass and the bit of added ritual to fixing an end of the day drink. I give them 5 leaves for improving my whisky experience. I at first purchased them at a different store, i.e., not an Indigo, simply for convenience, and discovered that there are Chinese-made knock-offs being sold in some places for the same price as the originals. The packaging looked quite similar to the Teroforma brand (which was my undoing), but if I'd examined it more closely I could have easily spotted the differences: The tagline is changed to "Ice melts. Whisky Stones" (which ruins the original product's 'whisky rocks' pun.) Also there are grammar and spelling mistakes, such as "Who need ice?" on the box's side and "Georeous eco-friendly gift wrapping available" in the list of features. The enclosed storage bag is also just a cheap, velvety material. Who knows whether the stones are even the soap stone or granite they promise? After returning the above, I bought the original Vermont-cut stones at Indigo and can vouch for the product's top quality.

Wiskey Rocks are suppose to keep the temperature of your scotch from getting too warm... these rocks do just that (keep in fridge, not freezer). They are not a substitute for ice cubes... but who wants to drink good scotch/whiskey ice cold, the flavours would disappear!?! If you are an avid scotch/whiskey drinker you know you are suppose to drink most at room temperature. The rocks allow the scotch to remain in your hand without raising (by your hand temp) or lowering (with ice which also waters down) the temperature of your scotch with any significance. When you pay $100-200 for a bottle you want to savour and enjoy the flavours and aromas, these rocks allow you to do just that without any major fluctuation in temperature regardless of how long it takes you to drink your glass. They also work well with brandy, gin, amaretto, and any other liquor you may fancy. My only complaint would be that the weight of the rocks is significant and many scotch glasses are fairly delicate and I would imagine that they could/would crack a glass if knocked or tipping in the glass. Has not happened to me but I would think it is quite possible.
