      Average rating: 5/5

      DVD: Taxi Driver

      By Cybill Shepherd

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment | August 14, 2007 | DVD
This urban nightmare has justifiably become one of Martin Scorsese's most celebrated films. For psychotic, pistol-packing Vietnam vet Travis Bickle, New York City seems like a circle of hell. Driving his cab each night through Times Square, Bickle observes with fanatical loathing the sleazy lowlifes who comprise most of his fares. By day he haunts the porno theaters of 42nd Street, taking his cues from the violent vision of life portrayed in these movies. As Bickle's attempts to connect with the people around him -- the lovely blonde campaign worker he wants to date, a prepubescent prostitute he tries to save -- are thwarted, his pent-up rage grows, and this social outcast turns into a walking time-bomb.

      DVD: Goodfellas

      By Robert De Niro

      Warner Home Video | September 4, 2007 | DVD
When Martin Scorsese, one of the world's most skillful and respected directors, reunited with two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro in GoodFellas, the result was one of the most powerful films of the year. Based on the true-life best seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and backed by a dynamic pop/rock oldies soundtrack, critics and filmgoers alike declared GoodFellas great. It was named 1990's best film by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. And it earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy "The Gent" Conway. And as the volatile Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performance. You have to see it to believe it-then watch again. GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie.

DVD: No Direction Home: Bob Dylan

      By Martin Scorsese

      Paramount Home Entertainment | September 20, 2005 | DVD
In an event that has brought together Bob Dylan and Martin Scorsese, AMERICAN MASTERS presents "Bob Dylan: No Direction Home." The two-part film, which focuses on the singer-songwriter's life and music from 1961-66, includes never-seen performance footage and interviews with artists and musicians whose lives intertwined with Dylan's during that time. Dylan talks openly and extensively about this critical period in his career, detailing the journey from his hometown of Hibbing, Minnesota, to Greenwich Village, New York, where he became the center of a musical and cultural upheaval, the effects of which are still felt today.

      DVD: Raging Bull

      By Joe Pesci

      20th Century Fox Home Entertainment | January 11, 2011 | Blu-Ray
Considered by many critics to be the best film of the 1980s, this gritty docudrama about hardheaded prizefighter Jake La Motta is so astonishingly real it seems like the champ's black-and-white home-movie reels have been spliced together. Robert De Niro’s Oscar-winning performance is intense and awe inspiring, and Martin Scorsese uses his regular bag of camera tricks to add to the proceedings. The film features a stellar supporting turn by Joe Pesci as La Motta’s brother, Joey.
