Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! So glad I found this series! My almost-8-year-old son absolutely loves them! He's always liked books and reading but was never really interested in chapter books... until I bought him the first book in the series. Now he's hooked and keeps asking me if we can get them all and when! I really like that they give them a little Canadian history too! I just wish I had known about this series sooner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On the edge of your seat! I bought this for my 6.5 yr old for Valentine's Day. He isn't reading yet as we support delayed reading. Anyhow we picked it up from our mailbox on the way to town. I read it to him while waiting for the ferry. He begged me to read it on the short ferry crossing, when we parked at the store in town and the same on the return ferry. He had to be patient until bedtime at which point we finished it. He found it absolutely riveting, heck so did- i got goosebumps I LOL I was ad avid adventure reader when I was a kid so this sings to me too! and now he wants to get more, now!!! He can't stop talking about it. I love the way she is able to get acurate facts into the story so he doesn't think it's 'bookwork'. I found the writing to be superior to the 'easy reader' books and a step down from adult, so very easy to comprehend and relate to. Obviously I feel the fact that there are 2 adventurers - both a boy and a girl make this an ideal book for both of my children to relate to!! The only complaint I have would be it's too short at only 66 pages (the rest - pages 67-83is the supposed 'interesting facts' that took up the back of the book) These were of absolutely no interest to my son- it would have been better to have more story, especially at $7 a book. Otherwise, I will wait until we read the 2nd one to see if it compares to this excellent book.

About the Book

The old Canadian Flyer in the attic of Emily's new house looks like just another old sled. But when eight-year-old Emily and nine-year-old Matt rub the sled's maple leaf logo, they suddenly find themselves transported from the dusty old attic to Frobisher Bay. What's more, they're aboard Martin Frobisher's ship "The Aid" and the year is 1577! Adventure beckons, and Emily and Matt are happy to follow. Until, that is, they meet up with honest-to-goodness pirates! This rollicking, fast-paced adventure brings Frobisher's search for the Northwest Passage to life.
