The fourth and latest cinematic version of Louisa May Alcott's much-loved, classic children's novel. Director Gillian Armstrong -- the first woman to film "Little Women" -- focuses on the book's feminist qualities.
The story follows the adventures and romances of Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March as they grow up and become young women. As the girls encounter obstacles -- especially the absence of their father, away fighting the Civil War -- their kind and wise "Marmee" tries to guide them and help them learn from their errors.
Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 novel about a family's struggles during the Civil War while the father, a Union Army Chaplain, is away. Together, the mother and her four daughters face hardships, love, and grief, helping each other realize their hopes and dreams. Academy Award Nominations: 3, including Best Actress--Winona Ryder.
Color by Technicolor.
Produced by Di Novi Pictures.
Rated BBFC U by the British Board of Film Classification.
There is a "Little Women Keepsake Gift Set Edition" which comes with a sterling silver-plated locket; a novelette based on Louisa May Alcott's original story; a video-size keepsake box; and the film itself.
