This lecture from American Indian Movement co-director Ward Churchill focuses on the Pine Ridge incident in the '70s that led to the jailing of the famous political prisoner Leonard Peltier on murder charges. Churchill discusses everything that led up to the incident. On the first disc he talks about the state of Native Americans today, how they live on the richest land in America as part of the reservation system, but yet are the poorest people in the country. He goes on to the history of the FBI going back to before the FBI was created and the private company, the Pinkertons, worked for the government doing the same sort of dirty work. On the second CD, he talks about the FBI's role in suppressing certain elements in the civil rights movement and later during the Vietnam War, when they helped to destroy the Black Panther Party and infiltrated leftist, antiwar organizations. He gives their whole brutal history (of course one-sided) right up to their suppression of Native Americans at Pine Ridge, which led to the deaths of two FBI agents and the conviction of Peltier as a scapegoat (according to Churchill), after they were not able to convict two other men (one of whom admitted shooting them) in an earlier trial. There's a lot of information here about subjects that most people know very little about, so this two-CD is a worthy listen especially for those interested in the case of Peltier or the history of the FBI. ~ Adam Bregman
