From Our Editors
These two albums are historical records of a different kind.
Evoking the tumultuous days of the American Civil War and the Wild
West respectively, these two discs are also pieces of music
history. White Mansions and the Legend of Jesse
James are now classic recordings from 1978 and 1980
featuring Waylon Jennings, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and
Roseanne Cash doing songs written by Paul Kennerly. Perhaps the
most amazing thing about these concept albums is that Kennerly
managed to convince these stars to contribute although he was a
virtual unknown.
