The art of Claudia DeMonte (b. 1947) combines sobering commentary on the status of women with lighthearted humor. From her early works of the 1970sphoto essays, installations, T-shirtsthis survey moves on to her painted pulp paper sculptures, works in clay, paintings, fabric pieces, installations, bronzes, and her Female Fetish series (pewter milagros nailed onto wooden objects). The first retrospective of DeMonte's work is a long overdue tribute to one of America's most intriguing artists.
