Rated 4 out of 5 by from Along came a spider This book is very good. I have seen the movie but the book is far superior. The author took his time to write about the situations of African Americans in a sensitive and factual way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Read This book keeps you on the edge of your seat, and at some points, not being able to read quick enough. You begin to feel for the characters, even the "bad guys". The movie is great, but doesn't hold a candle to the book.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I finally finished it First of all, it was waaaaay toooooooo long. 500+ pages (a little too long in my eyes) Put it down 1/2 way thru & read two more books (non-fiction) in between. The general idea of the storyline was good, but I certainly read better. Had action and twists (especially the end!!!) Tooo much of it was the romance or sexual interraction between the two characters that in all honesty was not really needed for the story - especially after what ultimately happens. The final climax of the story was really exciting & full of action.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I think this is the worst book I've ever read I was not surprised by anything in this book. It was all just too coincidental that once Alex Cross needed a clue after having all the doors closed, oh, look, a clue. Half of the novel was a romance. A ROMANCE! Half of the story line didn't even make sense. When I finally finished the book, I slammed it shut and threw it at a wall, and I think I kicked it a couple times too. I would have burned it, but I borrowed it. I completely hated the movie, and usually the book is better, but the movie made more sense and had more surprises. BURN THIS BOOK!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This was an amazing book. I am scared to see the movie as they likely ruined the story. Once you pick it up it is so hard to put down. If you like suspence and surprises with some great twist you got to get this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Book, Terrible Movie I couldn't have been happier with a kidnapping book. It moved at a perfect pace with a fast rollercoaster of an ending. However, the movie was terribe. If the credits didn't tell me the name of the movie I wouldn't have know that it was inspired by this terrific book. The directors of this film basically wrote their own movie, named the characters the same thing, and gave it the same title as the book. Specific details and sub-plots were left out of the movie that made the book so good. I'm surprised that James Patterson allowed Hollywood to humiliate him with this disgraceful film. If you're a fan of this book take my advice and don't ruin your thoughts by seeing the movie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! This was my first James Patterson and it won't be my last! Alex Cross is fantastic and although I love Morgan Freeman, I would have preferred to see Denzel Washington as Alex Cross (can't wait to see the movie though). However, I could not put this book down! The twists are fantastic ... you'll never read about anyone as sick and twisted as Gary Murphy/Soneji! Question is, WHO is the sickest?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from incredible!!! James Patterson's novel "Along Came A Spider" both awed and wowed me. I have read and own every other James Patterson novel, and i enjoy the Alex Cross series very much. He is an interesting and believable character. I think that "Along Came A Spider" is definitely one of his best works so far. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Don't read this book before locking all the windows and doors!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Tense Along Came A Spider, was a very tense and stimulating novel. This was my first Alex Cross novel, so I can't say much along the lines of other Alex cross novels, but it was definitely much more exciting then the first James Patterson novel I read. Alex Cross is given the task of finding the murderous serial kidnapper, who has adbucted two cildren of highly placed society members and the kids of course. The ending has an unexpected twist that would surprise anyone who reads this novel. I read this novel within 24hours and was very stressed out the whole time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This book rocked!!!! I love the short chapters and the character of Alex Cross. The character reminds me so much of Morgan Freeman, it was perfect casting for the movie, Kiss the Girls. The book is fast paced and filled with thrills and twists! Awesesome!! James Patterson is an amazing author!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Along Came A Spider This is a twisted story of a detective on the hunt for a supposedly multiple- personality murderer named Soneji. Alex Cross is a diligent and determined cop whose whole life becomes the chase. In order for Cross to succeed, he must enter the mind of Soneji, and think as the killer's many personalities do. This book is a real gripper that will keep you up all night with fear and anticipation.

"James Patterson is to suspense what Danielle Steel is to romance".

Employee Review

Gary Soneji, the murderous serial kidnapper, is up to his old tricks. This time, his victims are the children of a high-ranking government official and a movie star. Detective Alex Cross is on the case to stop this madman. Patterson's entangled web intertwines both the antagonist and protagonist. Deciphering the good from the bad is to fully understand the genius of this author and his characters.
