Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful Useful information, and as with other programs, it works if you follow it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the serious only. No complainers please I am using this book and the workbook to do my workouts. It's not easy and has required a whole life over haul. I've had to rework my lifestyle in order to make this book work for me. I'm allocating the proper time to do the workouts, and have seen results in as little as two weeks. The main thing is to take the time to learn about the program and it's workings. I'm serious about weight loss, and this book is a good structure to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Works This book and program are both great. I used it back a few years ago and went from a 42 inch waist to 34 in 13 weeks from 29% body fat to 13%. It is not easy and requires much discipline. But this book gives you the tools you need to make it happen. It also requires a lifestyle change for you, you drift off from the program it is easy to slide backwards from the progress you have made. This book will help you change your mindset. You will examine patters, give yourself rewards and see the changes take place. Phillips states: "It's Very Important to understand the difference between dreams and goals. Dreams are things we wish for--things you enjoy thinking about but don't really know when they'll happen. Goals, on the other hand, are specific things you have decided you need to accomplish within a clearly defined period of time." p.27 This book will help you make that leap from dreams to goals and from goals to results. One of the greatest strengths of the book is the section that outlines the exercises for each body part. No only do they include pictures of the different exercises and movements, they also have a tip box of the most common errors, and how to avoid them. The book is also peppered with testimonies of people who have done the program with their before and after pictures. Phillips states: “Your body is the epicenter of your universe. You go nowhere without it. It is truly the temple of your mind and your soul” p.2 this program will help you find a level of health that you may have given up on. One of the former champions of the challenge says: “Beyond information, I was being taught a frame of mind, which inspired me more than all the preachers, teachers, doctors, and counselors who had tried to get through to me before.” p.9 in reflection on this program and his recovery from a bullet wound from his youth. This book will help you change the patterns in your life, “Remember that everything you do in the real world is merely an external manifestation of what has already happened in your mind.” p. 29 This book has a balanced approach, you balance exercise with nutrition. You balance carbs with protein in each meal, and you balance cardio with strength training. Page 83 has an Eating-for-Life Authorized food guide, it lists the Proteins, Carbohydrates and Vegetables that are recommended and list’s them in the order if quality for this program. There is a world of difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it. This book will definitely give you the knowledge and challenge you to put it into practice. “Remember that everything you do in the real world is merely an external manifestation of what has already happened in your mind.” p.29

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Body for Life This book is not a miracle diet book. It teaches you the importance of having a balanced diet and that the only way to lose weight, and keep it off, is by doing physical activity. Well worth the money for someone who is tired of being out of shape and obese.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good complimentary reference This book is a good one to complement the book Slow Burn . This book deals with weighlifting and supplementary diet. The book Slow Burn deals with Cardio, therefore both books is a must for your library.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inspiring I found this book to be one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It can encourage anybody that is not happy with the way they look to do something about it. It will teach you to eat the foods that will help you change your lifestyle and the way you look at food. To read all of the inspirational stories of the couples that went through this program will really change your prospective of life and the way you live it. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to change their lives for the better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too General As an exercise physiologist, I have to say the following: 1. the book's exercise recommendations are too extreme. 2. Too much focus on supplementation. 3. Exercise/nutrition regimen too risky (i.e fat burning stacks prior to exercise, may cause heart attacks, fainting and more. I have personally seen it.) 4. Lacks individuality. If you want an individualised program, I recommend the Intrafitt Brand of Exercise and Nutrition Technology.(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Body For Life - forever! As a former fitness drop-out, I would recommend this book to everyone! I've just completed the 12 week program outlined in the book, and have never felt or looked better. The fitness and nutrition plans are easy to follow. The program is logical and common-sense. And don't worry about having to go to a gym to do this! I completed the program at home, in my basement, with a couple of benches and free-weights. Anyone can do this and everyone should. The results are definitely worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for those serious about getting in shape The program proposed by Bill Philips is incredible. My husband and I have been doing it for three weeks now, and the results are already visible. We were both in pretty good shape before we began, and the program just boosted our energy and motivation levels. You will find in the book everything you need to start : training routines (with examples of exercises you can do), nutrition guidelines, and logs to record your daily activity (training and eating -- also available at This is an easy-to-follow fitness program, with no calories counting and a healthy way of living. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the facts. Bill Phillips tells you exactly what it's all about. He makes you realize that there is no "easy way" to get results. It takes hard work and determination, something most of us just can't possibly give. Anyone looking to make an incredible change in their life (while working incredibly hard) should pick up this book ASAP. The only limiting factor will be your lack of determination...good luck, and work hard!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from body for life As a certified personal trainer, I have read countless "how to" books on getting in shape. This by far was the greatest one of them all. Bill Phillips not only makes you want to get in shape, but he makes you want to change your life. This book inspires not only a physical change but a mental, spiritual and psychlogical one as well. If you lack motivation, inspiration or knowledge, look no further. This book will awaken many people to the benefits of physical fitness and health. The bottom line is I feel bad for anyone who does not read this book because they will be the ones losing out. Make a change in your life and accept the Mr. Phillips' challenge. It is the smartest thing you will ever do...for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You MUST get this book!!! 3 weeks ago, I purchased an issue of MuscleMedia. In it was an inspiring article on the book 'Body for Life'. Before buying it I decided to check it out on the Body for Life website. I then went to my local "Muscle Shop" to get their opinion. Lo' and behold...there's a picture of Bill Phillips on the wall posing with the owner of the shop. We had a great conversation about the book and about Myoplex (the supplement that Bill recommends). I knew I had to try the program. I'm now on the 14th day of the 85day program, and numerous co-workers are asking me what i'm doing to look so good? I've already got 2 others trying the program as well. I don't have alot of pounds to shed as i've always been a healthy eater and a fairly active person.(But I could certainly stand to lose a good 15 lbs. of fat and gain some muscle. Anyway,I work an 80hr/week job and was certain I couldn't find the time to get fit. But I just did it! And now I find that I have more time in the day,(even though i'm also going to the gym now), because my energy level has soared. And the compliments that i'm getting are motivational in themselves. I'm only got 70 days left on the program, but I look forward to each and every one of them. Christine Turmaine

"After completing the 12-week program, I not only achieved my physical goals, I rediscovered passion in my life. This became the primary driving force behind my success. I've become the person I've always wanted to be." (Russell Simpson, M.D., age 47 Physician; Huntsville, Alabama)

Employee Review

This is an easy to understand plan for good nutrition and proper exercise. A person who knows nothing about exercise can easily follow the workouts and achieve good results. The plan allows for one cheat day each week, so you never feel deprived. I have found no other book that compares to this one if you want to successfully lose weight. I began the program last summer and over about seven months I lost fifty pounds -- and gained about 10 pounds of muscle. I highly recommend the book to anyone, regardless of your age or fitness level.
