about

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty onSaturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon -- from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

(Includes Special, Never-Before-Solicited Opinions on Breastfeeding, Princesses, Photoshop, the Electoral Process, and Italian Rum Cake!)

Tina Fey lives in Denver with her ferret, Jacoby.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great read Great book to get any of the ladies on your list for Christmas!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A perfect "lake" book I bought this book for the lake - so many have enjoyed reading it on a lazy summer day.
Date published: 2017-12-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not what I expected I thought this book would be a non-stop laugh fest, but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, it was still really enjoyable but not in the way I thought it would be. She had some really interesting stories and passages that I loved. Of course, there were some classic Tina Fey humour thrown in as well. It's an easy read, for sure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn’t love This was ok, but not a favorite. I think maybe her humour is just not to my taste, it was much more 30rock then SNL
Date published: 2017-12-01
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Let down I really thought this book would make me laugh, but I agree with some of the other reviews: it was kinda dull. Other than the occasional smirk, there wasn't much funny about this book. I wouldn't recommend it. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Woman Should Read This Book I bought the audio-version of this book almost 7 years ago and it's still something I listen to at least once a year. There are hilarious childhood memories, great life lessons, and even though I'm not a 30 Rock fan I loved hearing the behind the scenes stories from the show. This book empowers women while making them laugh, what else could you want?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny self-reflection on Fey’s life thus far I really enjoyed reading Tina Fey’s hilarious book. I liked learning about her family, past job experiences, and her work on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock. My favourite chapters were “That’s Don Fey,” “Sarah, Oprah, and Captain Hook,” and “There’s a Drunk Midget in My House.” She shares a lot of insights and isn’t afraid to include silly photographs of herself at various stages of her life. This book made me a bigger fan of hers for sure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but not the best As a huge SNL and Tina Fey fan, I was expecting this book to be full of hilarious stories about the industry, and SNL, but rather than being filled with laughs, i found it a bit dull at times. Some passages were great, and really stuck with me, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Light Read Greatly enjoyed the book for a quick, light read. Not as funny as I was expecting
Date published: 2017-07-27
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Quite What I Though It Would Be Tina Fey is extremely intelligent and funny. Luckily this is evident in her writing (both in style and in content). Unfortunately, I picked up this book hoping for more insight into the industry/advice but my assumption was dead wrong. I was wrong to assume it was much more than stories about her time at SNL. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting Read It is always comforting to know that it can be possible to work hard enough and achieve your dreams. A funny book, with a few very comical stories. It was a joy to read. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny! I enjoyed learning about Tina's upbringing and how much work it took to get her to where she is now. There is always something very interesting about learning more about the inner workings of tv shows and networks. Not quite laugh out loud funny, but funny all the same. #plumreview

Date published: 2017-05-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love With this book, it really felt like you were getting to know Tina Fey and I really hope she's as funny and as uplifting in real life because she writes very casually and keeps you interested. The book was more stories of things that have happened to her then doling out advise which I really liked. Definitely a keeper to read, and read again when you need a good real-life laugh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! This book is so great! It had me laughing outloud throughout the entire thing. I love how Tina Fey just flat out says the things that most more are thinking but wouldn't dare say.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just Ok. There were funny parts to this book and it had some insightful moments. I enjoyed learning more about Fey's life. But in the end it was fairly forgettable. #plumreview
Date published: 2017-03-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Insightful! I consider this to be a classic of the genre. Fey's insights felt fresh and so funny, and I especially loved her letter to her daughter. I've read many of the recently published humour books, and enjoyed them, but Bossypants stands out. In many ways, Fey opened the door for Mindy, Amy and Amy to publish their own works (among others - these are just the ones that came to mind first.) But more importantly, Fey's work is well-written and hilarious!
Date published: 2017-03-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny 'til the Last Drop Having been a fan of Tina Fey's for quite a number of years now, I figured that I might as well pick up the book and give it a read. Boy, am I glad that I did! Once you pick it up it's very hard to put down and I wouldn't have it any other way. I found myself laughing all by my lonesome on the floor of Indigo but I didn't care how crazy I looked, I just couldn't help myself. It serves as a great insight into the crazy, wonderful and true mind of an extremely multi-talented woman who isn't afraid to tell you exactly how it is. Nothing is TMI.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Tina If you're a fan of Tina Fey you'll love this book, like I did. Her story is inspirational but also still relatable. Her career and life advice is worth following, if you filter out the sarcasm and parts that are suppose to be taken as jokes. Written with her classic Tina Fey humour and \style it's an easy and amusing read, I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
Date published: 2017-02-05
Rated 2 out of 5 by from So/so I LOVE Tina Fey and was extremely excited to read her story told in her own (and hilarious) words. Unfortunately, I found the book to be only somewhat funny and only laughed out loud once during the entire story. While interesting, it was not the side-splitting read I expected.
Date published: 2017-01-31
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOL'd This book was so funny, I often found myself laughing out loud on the bus. So engaging with her sense of humour that we've come to expect from Tina Fey.
Date published: 2017-01-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good I am a fan of Tina Fey, hence the reason I bought this book, but it was just okay for me. I would recommend it as I enjoy learning about how people in the public eye got their start, and what their life was like before stardom, and while Fey does a good job of giving the reader a sense of this, I found it to be a bit on the tedious side. Sorry Tina, still a fan though!
Date published: 2017-01-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laugh-out-loud funny This book was amazing. Had me laughing out loud on the subway. I've re-read it twice since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO FUNNY I laughed out loud so many times, the woman sitting on the plane next to me asked me to keep it down. I've also re-read this book 6 times, 3 in one sitting. A masterpiece of comedy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HILARIOUS I have read this book about 4 times since purchasing it in 2012. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I have always been a Tina Fey fan so I knew I would like it. I was right! I had to stop reading this at work and in public places because the entire thing makes me laugh out loud (still!). I would recommend this to anyone...and I do, regularly!

Date published: 2017-01-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Will Truly LOL! This book proves just how funny Tina Fey is. An honest and hilarious reality tour through life as a comic, a mom and generally being a woman. Love it and you will too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious I listened to this audiobook which I think added to the hilariousness of this book. I found all of Tina's stories absolutely hysterical and she also threw in a few valuable words of wisdom. Overall a super fun read that is also a great mood booster

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny Read this book is hilarious. Admittedly, I got about halfway through and then never picked it up again. It wasn't a riveting story but a light and easy read.
Date published: 2016-12-27
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book from Comedic Author I really enjoyed this book because I more or less enjoy everything about Fey's comedic style. As I was reading the book, I liked to imagine Fey performing the passages out lol

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love Tina! If you're a Tina Fey fan, this is the audio book for you. I loved hearing Tina talk about her life. I was sort of disappointed that she didn't talk about the scar. It dragged on a bit, and some of the stories seemed unbelievable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny at times, but disappointing overall The book is funny but by no means hilarious. Better than Amy Poehler's Yes Please, but not the most inspiring book I've read.
Date published: 2016-12-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book! Tina Fey is funny, open and honest in Bossy Pants. It was nice to see a different side of her and learn about her start in comedy, while also maintaining a hilarious tone throughout the book. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read I love Tina Fey cause she's amazingly talented and hilarious, and I was super stoked to read her latest book. It was a good read, but I feel like it was over-hyped and perhaps my expectations were too high and I thought it would be funnier. .
Date published: 2016-12-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good #plumreview Such a special comic voice. Not quite as funny as her great shows but still quite good.
Date published: 2016-12-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good read Although I did enjoy this book it was not nearly as funny as I had anticipated. It was still enjoyable.
Date published: 2016-12-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honest and Insightful This is a memoir not a comedy book. I was interested in her rise and fight to get where she is today and I admire her for all she did. She was honest about her downfalls too, like stealing that YMCA job, which I appreciated because it made her more human to me.
Date published: 2016-12-09
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissapointing I thought this book would be more inspirational and funny.
Date published: 2016-12-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Autobiography of Comedian...Ever. I can say that with authority because I have ready quite a few - Amy Poehler, Steve Martin, David Spade...and I rate this the highest because it has everything I want in a bio. First and foremost - Tina's incredible wit shines through. She is so clever and it translates into this book. Second, the stories are interesting and revealing - she isn't just telling funny stories but telling her life through the funny stories. Third, I actually got some insight into the behind the scenes of the shows she was on. One reason I HATED Amy Poehler's book was it was so superficial. She was on SNL for almost 10 years and you get no idea of what being on SNL was like. Tina';s book gave me a glimpse into SNL, 30 Rock and who Tina is. Loved it.
Date published: 2016-12-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I hoped for Tina Fey's writing influenced my entire childhood, particularly Mean Girls and SNL and this book doesn't disappoint. #PlumReview
Date published: 2016-12-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Few Laughs Along the Way I read this book recently and I found that Fey's humour tends to lie towards the political side, which is fine, if your views are similar. She is entertaining, however, did not seem to grab my attention throughout the read. Still, I enjoy what she has to bring.
Date published: 2016-12-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from In Tina Fey's world I love her sarcastic humor. This book really pulls you into her world growing up as well as her way up the comedy ladder. If you like anecdotal comedy books, this is a good one to add to your list!
Date published: 2016-12-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious Tina Fey is great. Her voice is her own, she is HILARIOUS and her mind is a bright tornado. Love.
Date published: 2016-12-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny and thoughtful I found this book inspiring as a career woman with some self doubt. Tina made me laugh, feel better about myself, and think. I also found her life to be fascinating in itself. I especially enjoyed this as an audio book for my commute. I did find it slow at points but otherwise hilarious.
Date published: 2016-11-25

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Happy I bought htis book, after seeing another book that I enjoy reference its self as the "British Version" of Bossypants, and I really enjoy Tine Fey. I bought the book under the assumption that it was going to have a feminist thread, and while it did show up a few times, it wasn't a powerful part of the book. On the other hand, it was Hilarious! I really enjoyed it, and wasn't let down. If you want something that makes you laugh with every other sentence, this is the book for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tina Fey is hilarious There were definitely parts that made me laugh out loud. In fact I can't think of the word "cavernous" without laughing anymore.
Date published: 2014-11-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious, and endlessly quotable. I love Bossypants. It is equal parts smart, touching, hilarious, and insightful. What's better, not only is Fey's talent as a comic writer highlighted in Bossypants, but her ability as an engaging storyteller really shines through as she describes her journey from Philly to Chicago to NYC. Time flies by while reading this book. Worthy of multiple reads, and multiple listens of the audiobook. You won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Send it to all your friends! Couldn't put 'Bossy Pants' down! Tina Fey's autobiography was hilarious, heart warming and seemed really honest. This a fun read and may be what a lot of my friends and family, get this year for Christmas.
Date published: 2014-11-10
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Oy vey, Tina Fey -- Dropped the Ball On the CBC I heard a book review on Tina Fey's book. The broadcaster said, she laughed out loud reading the book. I have many books that made me laugh out loud, Bossy Pants did not...But, now that I've said that, it did make me chuckle...I wanted to chuckle more. The book did have funny parts in it, particularly when she was a little girl, growing up, going to school. When the book progressed to her career at Saturday Night Live, and 30 Rock, it was just boring. Yes, I really really wanted to like this book. Bossy Pants fell very short of my expectations.
Date published: 2014-11-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! Definitely read this book! What can you really say about an autobiography? It’s funny. It’s the story of Tina Fey and her interesting chronicle of becoming one of the funniest women writers in the business. It’s not a hard sell. If you love Tina Fey. Even if you only like Tina Fey, you will definitely enjoy this book.
Date published: 2014-10-31
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOL...For Real I love Tiny Fey and her sense of humour so so so so much and while reading this one on the beach in Jamaica I was actually, truly laughing out loud. People actually asked me about the book based on watching me enjoy it so much. I laughed until I cried. A must read for sure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Go Tina Fey "Bossypants" is a fun read. I was really looking forward to a multitude of laughs but I have to say that I was slightly disappointed in that regard. There were definitely very funny sections but the book is not all laughs. Tina Fey's story and background insights into her own life were the most interesting parts for me. I appreciated reading her down to earth opinions of women's issues, the entertainment industry and relationships. From my reading perspective, Tina Fey, seems like the kind of boss or friend you would love to have. Kudos to her for writing a humorous and sincere account of her life so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As funny as always Tina Fey is wonderfully, uproariously and irreverently funny in everything she does and this book is no different. She's the sort of writer I'd love to be. I found myself reading most of this book in her voice, with her timing and inflections, often erupting in fits of laughter that had my husband giving me strange looks from over his laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable :) I love tina fey and therefore I knew I would be biased when reading this book. It is a good read, she keeps things light and funny but still touches on some interesting topics. It was certainly interesting to have her pov on her career and success.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I did find this book to be interesting but not all that funny. I was surprised that I never laughed out loud at this book considering Tina Fey is so funny. I have heard that the audio book is much better because she is delivering her jokes and they are not just lying flat on the page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great read Tina Fey writes about her life and work in a funny way. It's not just that some of the situations she describes are funny...she writes funny. This book was fun to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tina makes the Book I have to say, I really wanted to buy, read and love this book. In the end, I got the audio book and to the people who aren't getting a laugh out of it, you have to read it in Tina's voice. Her delivery is fantastic and I can imagine if I were reading the book - it would be kinda dry. Loving the audiobook though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the best -- for fans of 30 Rock, perhaps? I wanted to like this book. No, I wanted to love this book. I read so many great reviews on it and people were saying it was so hilarious. I was 46 on the waiting list for Bossypants at the library. Eventually I just bought the book myself because I wanted to laugh. I wanted to be that person on an airplane who is laughing hysterically. I was not that person. Maybe it’s because I had only seen Tina Fey in skits on Saturday Night Live. I heard of 30 Rock but hadn’t watched the show. Right from the start I realized that I shouldn’t have bought the book. Yes, there were parts that were funny, but only mildly so. I found myself forcing my way through the pages waiting for it to end. Don’t get me wrong, Tina Fey is a great writer and it was interesting to read how she got her start on SNL and 30 Rock, but this book just wasn’t for me. If you really want to read Bossypants, I would suggest giving the audio version a try. Maybe I read the whole thing wrong. It’s all in the delivery, you know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Read This book made me laugh multiple times with every couple of pages. The way Tina Fey portrayed her story was amazing. She really knows how to tie in comedy with the seriousness of her life story. I like when a writer can grab my attention in the first few sentences of the book. Tina Fey did just that. After hearing so many recommendations from many of my friends about this book I just had to give it a read. I do not regret reading this book! In fact I would recommend this book to everyone. It really gets you thinking and laughing, even at things you never thought was funny. I am not an avid reader, however this book is one that you cannot skip out on. This book is perfect for those who are looking for a good laugh combined with a great story. Good job Tina Fey! I really enjoyed your book and I hope to see more publications from you in the future. Thank you!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from so-so I was expecting a more personal book and hoped for her witty personality to shine through but was a little disappointed to read so much about her career jobs and sketches from her professional work. I did not perhaps read into what the aim of the book was. Soon to become a new mum myself i was interested in her experiences of becoming a mother and how it changed her life but was disappointed to read this event in little detail. I did find it interesting her history in how she got into the acting profession. But if i am honest i started skipping pages of the 30 rock sketches as i was more interested in her life story than appreciating scene descriptions and then found i had lost interest so did not complete the last quarter of the book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny, but just Okay. I like Tina Fey. I think she’s funny and smart, and super cool. I love her ability to make fun of herself and not care what people think. I’m glad that I read Bossypants because of these reasons. Her personality really shone through in her writing. Having said that, I don’t think that everything in her book was necessary. There were a few yawn inducing moments. Moments that I did not particularly care to read about. Let’s face it, sometimes people don’t have very interesting lives. Do I think Tina should have written a book about hers? Not really. I think she would make an excellent fiction writer though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seemed to Drag on Tiny Fey is a funny person, so it's not surprising that her written work reflects her personality. However, I feel like parts of the book dragged on (such as her experience working on SNL). I expected the book to be different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy and Funny Memoir Dear Tina Thank you so much for helping me through a painfully long wait for the Go Bus (Have had Melanoma so standing in the hot sun for over an hour is the definition of hell) After laughing my ass off for over an hour I barely even noticed the bus was late. While reading I was impressed with how you seem to be just a down to earth, intelligent, honest and extremely funny women. (either that or you are just extremely talented at faking it) Your chapter on breastfeeding was beautifully written and really hit the nail on the head and expressed how I felt. I totally snorted out loud when you mentioned the "tit nazis" as I also had similar experiences with those horrendous women, who I had nicknamed "breast nazi's." (Hmm, I think I came up with it first, can I sue you or something -- I really could use some new floors) You also wonderfully expressed my feelings about the battle between working moms and stay at home moms with your quote "I think we should be kind to one another about it, I think we should agree to blame the children." Honestly, it isn't our place to judge, lets just support each other and work together to raise the next generation. A happy mother is a good mother in my opinion, and I believe your child will not end up like so many children of celebrities because you love what you do and because of your values and beliefs. Now down to the real reason I have now become your fan -- you don't drive. Now I have a retaliation for every time someone mentions my lack of a drivers license. Now I can just say -- hey Tina Fey doesn't drive and look how cool she is. I have to be honest I have never seen an episode of 30 Rock but you can bet your ass after reading your "memoir" that I will be picking up a full set of the DVD's this weekend. Thanks from your newest fan Jen PS to be honest I have never seen you on Saturday Night Live either -- but I did enjoy Date Night 4.5 Dewey's (Took off a half a dewey because I totally wanted the book to be longer, since I was enjoying it so much)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book - light on details. This was a great introduction to Tina Fey and her rise through the television industry. It was very light and simple, making it a perfect beach book. She doesn't go into many details or get bogged down on the struggles she must have faced, which perhaps undersells just how hard she worked to get where she is. However, she manages to present a funny story and gives the reader just enough insight to feel like they've gotten to know her a little better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE!!!!!! I loved this book, I laughed so hard I was crying throughout the book, while reading on the streetcar to work...it was a little embarrassing, but did not discourage me from reading it in public. I love Tina Fey, and this did not disappoint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You don't have to be a fan.... To enjoy Tina Fey's memoir Bossypants. Before picking up this book, I would not have classified myself as a fan of Tina Fey, I watch very little television and haven't really been exposed to her work, but thank goodness I didn't let that stop me from selecting this book. She had me laughing out loud with her stories about growing up, and I have a new found respect for her as a women working in a male dominated business. She is who she is, and she offers no apologies, she's grateful for those who showed her the ropes and believed in her, and to those who didn't, don't bother calling for a job. Hahaha. I can easily recommend this one to both fans and non-fans, it's a more than satisfying read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tears of laughter I read Bossypants in one day. I couldn't put it down. Insightful, honest and absolutely hilarious. In my opinion the funniest chapter was the one entitled "Dear Internet" where she responds back to negative comments posted online. Even the fake praise on the back of the book is funny. She is a genius.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The opposite of BLERG! Being a die hard 30 Rock and Tina Fey fan in general, I had been waiting for April 5th to come. I picked this up early yesterday evening, and had I not had to work - would've finished it sooner. But nevertheless, I finished it earlier this evening and I just didn't want it to end. It's a fantastic look at Tina's past and at her time with SNL and so on. Also great that she points out the barriers of the boys club that is comedy and the sexism which still exists despite the fantastic work that she, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Kristen Wiig and other female SNL performers have done within the last decade or so. A great read for sure - I laughed out loud quite a few times...and her scathing humour at times is amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charmingly Hilarious Tina Fey's book tells her life through her eyes. From the beginning to how she became the wonderful woman she is today. Tina is definitely my idol and I encourage anyone who is a fan to pick this book up. If all you're looking for is a hilarious, great read then buy it too.
