Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty onSaturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon -- from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

(Includes Special, Never-Before-Solicited Opinions on Breastfeeding, Princesses, Photoshop, the Electoral Process, and Italian Rum Cake!)

Customer Reviews of Bossypants

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Autobiography of Comedian...Ever. I can say that with authority because I have ready quite a few - Amy Poehler, Steve Martin, David Spade...and I rate this the highest because it has everything I want in a bio. First and foremost - Tina's incredible wit shines through. She is so clever and it translates into this book. Second, the stories are interesting and revealing - she isn't just telling funny stories but telling her life through the funny stories. Third, I actually got some insight into the behind the scenes of the shows she was on. One reason I HATED Amy Poehler's book was it was so superficial. She was on SNL for almost 10 years and you get no idea of what being on SNL was like. Tina';s book gave me a glimpse into SNL, 30 Rock and who Tina is. Loved it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Few Laughs Along the Way I read this book recently and I found that Fey's humour tends to lie towards the political side, which is fine, if your views are similar. She is entertaining, however, did not seem to grab my attention throughout the read. Still, I enjoy what she has to bring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In Tina Fey's world I love her sarcastic humor. This book really pulls you into her world growing up as well as her way up the comedy ladder. If you like anecdotal comedy books, this is a good one to add to your list!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny and thoughtful I found this book inspiring as a career woman with some self doubt. Tina made me laugh, feel better about myself, and think. I also found her life to be fascinating in itself. I especially enjoyed this as an audio book for my commute. I did find it slow at points but otherwise hilarious.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny read! I am a fan of Tina Fey in all formats and she did not disappoint with this book. It was cool to hear about her life and her career before she became the start that we know today. A great, light read with tons of laughs as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Happy I bought htis book, after seeing another book that I enjoy reference its self as the "British Version" of Bossypants, and I really enjoy Tine Fey. I bought the book under the assumption that it was going to have a feminist thread, and while it did show up a few times, it wasn't a powerful part of the book. On the other hand, it was Hilarious! I really enjoyed it, and wasn't let down. If you want something that makes you laugh with every other sentence, this is the book for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious, and endlessly quotable. I love Bossypants. It is equal parts smart, touching, hilarious, and insightful. What's better, not only is Fey's talent as a comic writer highlighted in Bossypants, but her ability as an engaging storyteller really shines through as she describes her journey from Philly to Chicago to NYC. Time flies by while reading this book. Worthy of multiple reads, and multiple listens of the audiobook. You won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Send it to all your friends! Couldn't put 'Bossy Pants' down! Tina Fey's autobiography was hilarious, heart warming and seemed really honest. This a fun read and may be what a lot of my friends and family, get this year for Christmas.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Oy vey, Tina Fey -- Dropped the Ball On the CBC I heard a book review on Tina Fey's book. The broadcaster said, she laughed out loud reading the book. I have many books that made me laugh out loud, Bossy Pants did not...But, now that I've said that, it did make me chuckle...I wanted to chuckle more. The book did have funny parts in it, particularly when she was a little girl, growing up, going to school. When the book progressed to her career at Saturday Night Live, and 30 Rock, it was just boring. Yes, I really really wanted to like this book. Bossy Pants fell very short of my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! Definitely read this book! What can you really say about an autobiography? It’s funny. It’s the story of Tina Fey and her interesting chronicle of becoming one of the funniest women writers in the business. It’s not a hard sell. If you love Tina Fey. Even if you only like Tina Fey, you will definitely enjoy this book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Go Tina Fey "Bossypants" is a fun read. I was really looking forward to a multitude of laughs but I have to say that I was slightly disappointed in that regard. There were definitely very funny sections but the book is not all laughs. Tina Fey's story and background insights into her own life were the most interesting parts for me. I appreciated reading her down to earth opinions of women's issues, the entertainment industry and relationships. From my reading perspective, Tina Fey, seems like the kind of boss or friend you would love to have. Kudos to her for writing a humorous and sincere account of her life so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As funny as always Tina Fey is wonderfully, uproariously and irreverently funny in everything she does and this book is no different. She's the sort of writer I'd love to be. I found myself reading most of this book in her voice, with her timing and inflections, often erupting in fits of laughter that had my husband giving me strange looks from over his laptop.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I did find this book to be interesting but not all that funny. I was surprised that I never laughed out loud at this book considering Tina Fey is so funny. I have heard that the audio book is much better because she is delivering her jokes and they are not just lying flat on the page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tina makes the Book I have to say, I really wanted to buy, read and love this book. In the end, I got the audio book and to the people who aren't getting a laugh out of it, you have to read it in Tina's voice. Her delivery is fantastic and I can imagine if I were reading the book - it would be kinda dry. Loving the audiobook though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the best -- for fans of 30 Rock, perhaps? I wanted to like this book. No, I wanted to love this book. I read so many great reviews on it and people were saying it was so hilarious. I was 46 on the waiting list for Bossypants at the library. Eventually I just bought the book myself because I wanted to laugh. I wanted to be that person on an airplane who is laughing hysterically. I was not that person. Maybe it’s because I had only seen Tina Fey in skits on Saturday Night Live. I heard of 30 Rock but hadn’t watched the show. Right from the start I realized that I shouldn’t have bought the book. Yes, there were parts that were funny, but only mildly so. I found myself forcing my way through the pages waiting for it to end. Don’t get me wrong, Tina Fey is a great writer and it was interesting to read how she got her start on SNL and 30 Rock, but this book just wasn’t for me. If you really want to read Bossypants, I would suggest giving the audio version a try. Maybe I read the whole thing wrong. It’s all in the delivery, you know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Read This book made me laugh multiple times with every couple of pages. The way Tina Fey portrayed her story was amazing. She really knows how to tie in comedy with the seriousness of her life story. I like when a writer can grab my attention in the first few sentences of the book. Tina Fey did just that. After hearing so many recommendations from many of my friends about this book I just had to give it a read. I do not regret reading this book! In fact I would recommend this book to everyone. It really gets you thinking and laughing, even at things you never thought was funny. I am not an avid reader, however this book is one that you cannot skip out on. This book is perfect for those who are looking for a good laugh combined with a great story. Good job Tina Fey! I really enjoyed your book and I hope to see more publications from you in the future. Thank you!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from so-so I was expecting a more personal book and hoped for her witty personality to shine through but was a little disappointed to read so much about her career jobs and sketches from her professional work. I did not perhaps read into what the aim of the book was. Soon to become a new mum myself i was interested in her experiences of becoming a mother and how it changed her life but was disappointed to read this event in little detail. I did find it interesting her history in how she got into the acting profession. But if i am honest i started skipping pages of the 30 rock sketches as i was more interested in her life story than appreciating scene descriptions and then found i had lost interest so did not complete the last quarter of the book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny, but just Okay. I like Tina Fey. I think she’s funny and smart, and super cool. I love her ability to make fun of herself and not care what people think. I’m glad that I read Bossypants because of these reasons. Her personality really shone through in her writing. Having said that, I don’t think that everything in her book was necessary. There were a few yawn inducing moments. Moments that I did not particularly care to read about. Let’s face it, sometimes people don’t have very interesting lives. Do I think Tina should have written a book about hers? Not really. I think she would make an excellent fiction writer though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seemed to Drag on Tiny Fey is a funny person, so it's not surprising that her written work reflects her personality. However, I feel like parts of the book dragged on (such as her experience working on SNL). I expected the book to be different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy and Funny Memoir Dear Tina Thank you so much for helping me through a painfully long wait for the Go Bus (Have had Melanoma so standing in the hot sun for over an hour is the definition of hell) After laughing my ass off for over an hour I barely even noticed the bus was late. While reading I was impressed with how you seem to be just a down to earth, intelligent, honest and extremely funny women. (either that or you are just extremely talented at faking it) Your chapter on breastfeeding was beautifully written and really hit the nail on the head and expressed how I felt. I totally snorted out loud when you mentioned the "tit nazis" as I also had similar experiences with those horrendous women, who I had nicknamed "breast nazi's." (Hmm, I think I came up with it first, can I sue you or something -- I really could use some new floors) You also wonderfully expressed my feelings about the battle between working moms and stay at home moms with your quote "I think we should be kind to one another about it, I think we should agree to blame the children." Honestly, it isn't our place to judge, lets just support each other and work together to raise the next generation. A happy mother is a good mother in my opinion, and I believe your child will not end up like so many children of celebrities because you love what you do and because of your values and beliefs. Now down to the real reason I have now become your fan -- you don't drive. Now I have a retaliation for every time someone mentions my lack of a drivers license. Now I can just say -- hey Tina Fey doesn't drive and look how cool she is. I have to be honest I have never seen an episode of 30 Rock but you can bet your ass after reading your "memoir" that I will be picking up a full set of the DVD's this weekend. Thanks from your newest fan Jen PS to be honest I have never seen you on Saturday Night Live either -- but I did enjoy Date Night 4.5 Dewey's (Took off a half a dewey because I totally wanted the book to be longer, since I was enjoying it so much)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly Great! What a funny read! I adore this woman and knowing her background and back stories really add dimension to the Tiny Fey on the TV screen. Hilarious book - was hard to put down!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Way to go, Tina Fey. Good - not great ------ but funny!
Date published: 2011-05-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book - light on details. This was a great introduction to Tina Fey and her rise through the television industry. It was very light and simple, making it a perfect beach book. She doesn't go into many details or get bogged down on the struggles she must have faced, which perhaps undersells just how hard she worked to get where she is. However, she manages to present a funny story and gives the reader just enough insight to feel like they've gotten to know her a little better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE!!!!!! I loved this book, I laughed so hard I was crying throughout the book, while reading on the streetcar to was a little embarrassing, but did not discourage me from reading it in public. I love Tina Fey, and this did not disappoint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You don't have to be a fan.... To enjoy Tina Fey's memoir Bossypants. Before picking up this book, I would not have classified myself as a fan of Tina Fey, I watch very little television and haven't really been exposed to her work, but thank goodness I didn't let that stop me from selecting this book. She had me laughing out loud with her stories about growing up, and I have a new found respect for her as a women working in a male dominated business. She is who she is, and she offers no apologies, she's grateful for those who showed her the ropes and believed in her, and to those who didn't, don't bother calling for a job. Hahaha. I can easily recommend this one to both fans and non-fans, it's a more than satisfying read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tears of laughter I read Bossypants in one day. I couldn't put it down. Insightful, honest and absolutely hilarious. In my opinion the funniest chapter was the one entitled "Dear Internet" where she responds back to negative comments posted online. Even the fake praise on the back of the book is funny. She is a genius.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh I think my expectations were a little high for this was okay.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately I found it a bit boring. Although the odd line made me smile, it was not very engaging and I found it fairly tedious to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The opposite of BLERG! Being a die hard 30 Rock and Tina Fey fan in general, I had been waiting for April 5th to come. I picked this up early yesterday evening, and had I not had to work - would've finished it sooner. But nevertheless, I finished it earlier this evening and I just didn't want it to end. It's a fantastic look at Tina's past and at her time with SNL and so on. Also great that she points out the barriers of the boys club that is comedy and the sexism which still exists despite the fantastic work that she, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Kristen Wiig and other female SNL performers have done within the last decade or so. A great read for sure - I laughed out loud quite a few times...and her scathing humour at times is amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charmingly Hilarious Tina Fey's book tells her life through her eyes. From the beginning to how she became the wonderful woman she is today. Tina is definitely my idol and I encourage anyone who is a fan to pick this book up. If all you're looking for is a hilarious, great read then buy it too.
