#1 New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh allies two fierce changelings in this explosive Psy-Changeling novel.
Though DarkRiver sentinel Mercy is feeling the pressure to mate, she resists savagely when Riley Kincaid, a lieutenant from the SnowDancer pack, seeks to possess her. The problem is not simply that he pushes her buttons; the problem is that he’s a wolf, she’s a cat, and they’re both used to being on top.
But when a brilliant changeling researcher is kidnapped from DarkRiver territory in a seemingly senseless attack, Mercy and Riley must work together to track the young male—before his shadowy captors decide he’s no longer useful. Along the way, the two dominants may find that submitting to one another uncovers not just a deadly conspiracy, but a passion so raw, it’ll leave them both branded by fire…
New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh is passionate about writing. Though she’s traveled as far afield as the deserts of China, the Highlands of Scotland, and the temples of Japan, it is the journey of the imagination that fascinates her the most. She’s beyond delighted to be able to follow her dream as a writer. Nalini lives ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Branded by fire For a clear and accurate understanding of Nalini Singh's characters, particularly the Changelings, this is the book to read. All of her Changeling characters display loyalty, affection and what most modern thinking people would term obsessiveness. In her first five books, we see Changeling males think and behave in a ways that most of us, if confronted with such a partner, would run the other way as fast as we could. With the exception of Caressed by Ice, we see all of the mannerisms (on display by these male characters) that spell obsession, not love. Yet, this one book puts Mercy (a wereleopard) and Riley (a werewolf) on equal footing both emotionally, and professionally. Riley is perhaps the perfect example of how dominance is tempered by love and respect. Mercy's response to him gives us a first hand view of Changeling males and why they behave the way they do. In this age, it would be easy to see the relationships that Changelings have as one-sided with dominance on the one side and submission on the other. This is not true in this book. This book shows us love, honor, compassion and most importantly, compromise. While expressing real understanding of Riley's dominant ways, Mercy never loses herself or her dominance. She can relate to Riley's insistent ways but at the same time maintain the position she set for herself. Together, this pair shows how being in love alone does not a relationship make. That dominance does not mean you get your way all the time, and if you love someone as much as these two do, you learn to give and take to make the relationship work. Anyone who wants to understand the mechanics of Changeling love and the deep seated loyalty to a mate, needs to read this book. In my opinion, if you ever read just one book of Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series, this is the one that will have you view all of her other books in the series in the proper perspective......Kudos to Nalini Singh, this was an awesome read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot Series! This is my favorite book out of the series. Mercy, a cat changeling, wants to find her mate but she is a dominate female and finding a male who can accept that is slim to none. She has an itch that really needs to be scratched when Riley, a wolf changeling, finds her alone in the woods and he is more than willing to scratch that itch of hers. Mercy and Riley work together and both want to be dominant, and the sexual hunger between them is scorching. They must work together to find a missing changeling researcher before it turns ugly and Riley and Mercy have to work on what they can give and take from each other or they might lose the best thing they've encountered......each other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!! This is one of my favorite novels in the series. I liked the idea of a dominate female that has a hard time finding someone who will stand up to her. Nonetheless, the couple is always arguing and fighting…it is hilarious at times! The whole book was entertaining and provided a huge controversy between changelings since the couple was not from the same pack. Once done I actually considered re-reading the novel. Can’t wait to get started on the next!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this series; Nalini Singh’s spin on her paranormal world is amazing. Although I expected a changeling to be matched up with a psy, I was pleasantly surprised to see these two strong, independent and very important changelings matched up. I loved the story line and the characters individual stories. I also like how they didn’t have to choose between packs and get to remain with both; I also believe it will strengthen the packs because of it. I like the subtle glimpses we see into some other very important characters and what their books might be on. Fast paced, steamy scenes, interesting surprises and a great ending. I can’t wait for the next novel in this great series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic!!! Wow!! I absolutely loved this book. Two dominant changelings used to being on top collide and when they do, will their animals accept each other? Another great book in this series. The continuing story line of the psy/changeling gets more intriguing with the psy council members being targeted. Loved the story of Riley and Mercy...two strong characters with lots of passion for their packs and each other and because they are both dominants, submitting doesn't come easy to either one. If you are just starting this series, I would start with book one "Slave to Sensation". You'll miss out on alot by starting with this book. Looking forward to the next in this series...November can't come fast enough!!! This is my favourite in the series so far!!!
