about

National Best Seller. Broken Wings is Clarissa Smith's true story of growing up along the Quebec/Labrador coast in the 1950s and 1960s. It's a story about love, hate and abandonment, but overall it's about the fragility of life. Clarissa was 14 when her mother died leaving her to care for half a dozen younger siblings. When they were practically abandoned by their father the family almost starved to death. Clarissa's story is one that you will never forget. It's both shocking and heartbreaking in its naked honesty. Readers describe it as a fantastic book, and  the best book they've ever read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than words.. When I heard that Aunt C's book was finally out after hearing about her intentions of publishing for years I had to get my hands on a copy. The story with it's raw attention to detail left me sobbing at times and has renewed my sense of appreciation of those story tellers who aren't afraid to present what most would rather forget. Thanks for sharing

I heard plenty of stories from my aunts , uncles and even my grandfather ( robert smith) . Once i started reading this book i couldnt put it down. Even tho i knew most of the story it was still nice to hear it again and get to know my grandmother in this book. I took this book to heart as aunt clarsy was talking about our family i got mad , i cried and i felt bad! We were all raised with a soft heart and now i know where my father gets it from. Cant wait for the second book auntie!! Congrads again on a beautiful heart felt book. love you all very much! love , sis

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Definite Must-Read! I purchased this book because the author's father was my great uncle and I wanted to find out more about my family history, however, once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. It is an amazing tale of courage and determination and it is difficult to imagine the hardship that the author had to endure at such a young age. Clarissa Smith is an inspiration to us all. If you haven't read this book...don't walk, run to your nearest bookstore and pick up a copy...you won't be disappointed!
