Burn: A Novel is rated 3.3333 out of 5 by 6.
It’s true what they say: Money changes everything. And in Linda Howard’s red-hot novel Burn, the changes come fast, furious, and filled with the kind of sexy suspense, heart-stopping romance, beautiful people, and risky business guaranteed to give you the most bang for your buck.

Money certainly changes Jenner Redwine’s life when she wins a lottery jackpot. But it also costs her plenty: Her father rips her off and disappears, her fortune-hunting boyfriend soon becomes her ex, and friends-turned-freeloaders give her the cold shoulder when she stops paying for everything.

Flush with new money, Jenner can’t imagine ever finding a place in the world of the wealthy. Seven years later, though, she’s rubbing elbows with the rich, despite the fact she still feels like a party crasher. Luckily she finds an ally–and a guide to the rarefied realm of privilege–in shy, kind-hearted heiress Sydney Hazlett, who quickly becomes Jenner’s confidante and surrogate sister.

When Sydney invites Jenner on a charity cruise aboard a luxury liner, Jenner reluctantly agrees. But while she’s expecting–and dreading–two weeks of masquerade balls, art auctions, and preening glitterati, what she gets is more like a Hitchcock movie than a Love Boat episode. Taken hostage by a menacing stranger, Jenner must cooperate in a mysterious cloak-and-dagger scheme–or else. With nowhere to run, and with Sydney’s life as well as her own at risk, Jenner is drawn into a game of dizzying intrigue and harrowing danger. But as her panic gives way to exhilaration, and fear of her captor turns to fascination, Jenner rediscovers feelings she hasn’t had in years–and realizes she’s found a life worth living. If she survives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Amazing Novel by Linda Howard BURN by Linda Howard This was an awesome book! It did start out a tad slow, but it sure made up for it. I loved Jenner, she is strong and sassy, and doesn't take any crap from Cael, and Cael was strong, sexy, delicious perfection. What a man, sigh, lol. ;) I adored their back and forth banter and arguments, and the frustration they had towards each other. Wonderful secondary characters as well. Great story just like all Linda Howard novels I have read. There was only one thing I didn't care for, and that was the end. I felt the follow up (the last page and a half) could have included more about what happened later, but it was still decent. Maybe I just need a sequel, lol. :) BURN is an incredible mix of suspense and sexy romance, and I highly recommend it! Overall Opinion: A+ Visit my blog for my full review, including my favorite quotes! :) http://kaylasbookcase.blogspot.com/

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bit of a let down I love Linda Howard, she is one of my favourite authors, but I found this book a bit of a let down. The plot had great potiential, but didn't deliver for me. There was a lot of time spent on Jenner's back story, but by the end of the book, I didn't really see the need for all of it. A bit slow getting to the romance aspect as well. The build up dragged a bit. Having said that, the chemistry between Cael and Jenner was good, and there was some good humour. All in all, not one of my favs, however Linda Howard still rocks. Out of all of her books, this is the first one that didn't quite make it for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to put down The book was a fast read with a unique plot --where the kidnappers were actually the good guys. Fantastic chemistry between Jenner and Cael. Author keeps the reader in the dark about the true nature of the antagonist til the very end. Lots of humor through the story. I was not laughing out loud with this story as I was with others by the same author but I really did enjoy it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh my, not again Oh Linda Howard, will you ever get back to the heart-stopping romance your fans enjoyed in earlier works, instead of intricately plotted mysteries bloated with secondary character details. I suppose the smidgen of romance thrown in keeps the book in the genre her fans expect from her, but for myself, a loyal fan who keeps buying her new novels (hardcovers and all), well, I just wished I hadn't bothered shelling out the cash. The story was ok if you're looking for a mystery, but a romance novel? Not a chance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Burnin up! Jenner (cool name) won the lottery ten years ago, and went from cheque to cheque to chairty ball to charity ball. The only thing she can't buy is some excitement: being rich is great, but boring as all get out. When her best friend suggests a charity crusie, Jenner agrees, hoping the change of place will help perk her up. Immediately after she arrives on board her best friend is kidnapped, and Jenner is forced to play girlfriend to the hottest kidnapper she's ever me. This is a great beach read. Howard is consistant in delivering fun, suspense filled, romantic books. I look forward to her every summer.

Chapter OneSeven years earlier . . .Jenner Redwine’s cell phone rang as she was ?trudg?ing across the parking lot to her car. That would be Dylan, she thought with a flash of annoyance as she fished the phone from the bottom of her denim purse; she’d had the phone for just five weeks, and already he’d developed a pattern. She bet she knew what he wanted, too. She thumbed the Talk button, said “Hello,” and waited to see if she’d won the bet with herself.“Hey, babe,” he said, as he always did.“Hey.” If he’d had an ounce of sensitivity he’d have noticed the distinct lack of welcome in her voice, but “sensitivity” and “Dylan” were direct opposites.“You off work yet?”As if he hadn’t been watching the clock, she thought, but didn’t say it. “Yeah.”“How about stopping at the Seven-Eleven and picking up a six-pack, okay? I’ll pay you for it.”He hadn’t yet, she thought grumpily, and she was getting tired of it. His dead-end job paid more than hers, but he was mooching his beer off her. Last time, Jenner promised herself as she said “Okay,” and hung up. If he didn’ t pay her this time, this was her last beer run.She had just clocked out at the end of second shift at Harvest Meat Packing Company, she was exhausted, and the bottoms of her feet throbbed from standing on the concrete floor for the past eight hours. Dylan’s job at a machine shop was first shift, which meant he’d been off work for roughly those same eight hours, but he hadn’t bothered to get his own beer. Instead he’d been wa
