Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic This book made me reward episode 1. Something I never thought I'd do . It's only really about plagueis for half the book , the rest is about sidious . This was my second read through.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Insight is what made this novel compelling The tale of Plagueis is also really the tale of Palpatine and his growth from intellectual idealist to Dark Lord of the Sith. Offering back story that furthers and sets up the plot to the events of episode 1. A bit more political than your typical SW novel, but none the less riveting

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read Very detailed and politically correct view of subterfuge by the Sith.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glorious A good contribution to the evolution of the sith

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glorious Since the scene in 'Revenge of the Sith' where Palaptine spoke to Anakin about his Master, this has been a book I was very curious to pick up, to learn more about the Sith Lord who would train The Emperor. It did a very good job of bringing in the characters who were both referenced and met in the movie's prequel trilogy. Count Dooku, Master Sifo-Dyas and of course, Darth Sidious' own Master, Darth Plagueis. The author did a good job of balancing both the political side and the Sith side of the story without losing momentum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mister Damn fine way to fill in Palpatine's missing links.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent read A great insite on the happenings that formed the base for the star wars saga.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Star Wars Darth Plag... Great dialog ... insane run on sentence abuse ... story telling was poor ... only read if you want to know ...
Date published: 2013-09-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fascinating Ties together the whole prequel era into one Grand Design. Witness Palpatine and his shadowy master take the calculated steps to secure connection control of the Republic, instigate the Clone Wars, and have their revenge on the Jedi Order. Only the promise of future redemption in the films prevents this dark tale from being a depressing vision of the triumph of evil. Best Star Wars book I've read in a WHILE!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting behind the scenes look at Ep 1 As soon as this book was announced, I knew it was one that required reading asap. On the date it came out I purchased it on my Kobo and got down to reading. To say this book didn't grab me at the start is an understatement as I didn't really get into the book for a few months when I hit the halfway mark. Things got better after that but the slow start does not permit a rating above the 3 stars. Kobo edition note: Much of my reading was conducted on my computer and phone using Kobo apps. This caused extra problems as for some reason, scene shifts inside of chapters gave no indication (bit of extra white space or *********) which lead to confusion as to what the heck had just happened. Probably this isn't the case with the print edition and it is the first occurence I've encountered in this format. None the less it certainly detracted from reading enjoyment.

About the Book

At long last, the story of the mysterious Sith Lord Darth Plagueis and his apprentice, Darth Sidious, is revealed, in this "New York Times" bestseller.

Read from the Book

9780345511287|excerpt Lucerno / STAR WARS DARTH PLAGUEIS PART ONE: Enlistment 67–65 Years Before the Battle of Yavin 1: THE UNDERWORLD Forty-seven standard years before the harrowing reign of Emperor Palpatine, Bal’demnic was nothing more than an embryonic world in the Outer Rim’s Auril sector, populated by reptilian sentients who expressed as little tolerance for outsiders as they did for one another. Decades later the planet would have a part to play in galactic events, its own wink of historical notoriety, but in those formative years that presaged the Republic’s ineluctable slide into decadence and turmoil, Bal’demnic was of interest only to xenobiologists and cartographers. It might even have escaped the notice of Darth Plagueis, for whom remote worlds held a special allure, had his Master, Tenebrous, not discovered something special about the planet. “Darth Bane would appreciate our efforts,” the Sith Master was telling his apprentice as they stood side by side in the crystalline cave that had drawn them across the stars. A Bith, Tenebrous was as tall as Plagueis and nearly as cadaverously thin. To human eyes, his bilious complexion might have made him appear as haggard as the pallid Muun, but in fact both beings were in robust health. Though they conversed in Basic, each was fluent in the other’s native language. “Darth Bane’s early years,” Plagueis said through his transpirator
