E-Myth \ 'e-,'mith\ n 1: the entrepreneurial myth: the myth that most people who start small businesses are entrepreneurs 2: the fatal assumption that an individual who understands the technical work of a business can successfully run a business that does that technical work

Voted #1 business book by Inc. 500 CEOs.

An instant classic, this revised and updated edition of the phenomenal bestseller dispels the myths about starting your own business. Small business consultant and author Michael E. Gerber, with sharp insight gained from years of experience, points out how common assumptions, expectations, and even technical expertise can get in the way of running a successful business.

Gerber walks you through the steps in the life of a business—from entrepreneurial infancy through adolescent growing pains to the mature entrepreneurial perspective: the guiding light of all businesses that succeed—and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Most importantly, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business.

The E-Myth Revisited will help you grow your business in a productive, assured way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The E-Myth Revisited The author gets the reader excited about doing business. he makes some key points about the attitudes business owners have that both lead to failure or to success. He understands the effort required to succeed in business comes from within the business owner himself. remarkably interestingly considering so much has already been written about small business success. in short he uses his own formula on the reader and you can see for yourself how persuasive it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Contemplating starting your own business? Read this book first! The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber is a great book for those who have toyed around with the idea of starting a business with no real business background or experience. Gerber explains why many small businesses fail early from the get-go, and he outlines what is needed for a business to succeed. I really liked this book; it's an easy and interesting read, and includes real case studies of some of the most successful businesses in the world. Let me clarify; this book is not a step-by-step guide on how to create and run a business, but this book will help you figure out whether you should be starting a business to begin with by enumerating the right and wrong reasons for anyone to be starting a company. The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber is definitely recommended for anyone who is contemplating entrepreneurship, especially for individuals with no business background. -- Review by

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Entrepreneur Needs It! The book does get a bit wordy after a while, but it really is like an entrepreneur's Bible. It will help you understand yourself and therefore, how to run your business. If you're losing money, direction or motivation, this book will help get you back on track. It is a must read for all business people - from aspiring entrepreneurs to experienced ones. I've bought 4 copies - one for me and three others for my friends in business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short, concise and to the point A must-read for any small business person or would-be entrepeneur. As a co-owner of a small property management office, I would have thought Michael Gerber had been sitting and watching over my left shoulder as our business developed. He clearly identifies why many small businesses don’t work, and provides a step-by-step plan for fixing the inevitable problems that the person growing a successful business will encounter. Now, as a business consultant, I am seeing the inside workings of numerous small businesses, many of whom suffer from the same problems Michael Gerber identifies. A short read. Concise and to the point. This book will change the way you think about your business. I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How to Stop "Doing, Doing, Doing!" As a business coach, I see a lot of entrepreneurs going crazy with long hours and big frustration. This book takes you one step back and has you analyze your business all over again. His stories help you see the point and how to apply his model. But save yourself the grief of reading the letter to Sara at the end. Phew!
