It starts with a whisper: " It's time for you to know who you are? " On her 17th birthday, everything will change for Violet Eden. The boy she loves will betray her. Her enemy will save her. She will have to decide just how much she's willing to sacrifice. Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, EMBRACE is a compelling novel of good and evil, seductive desires and impossiblechoices. A centuries old war between fallen angels and the protectors of humanity chooses a new fighter. It's a battle Violet doesn't want, but she lives her life by two rules: don't run and don't quit. If angels seek vengeance and humans are the warriors, you could do a lot worse than betting on Violet Eden. LINCOLN: He's been Violet's one anchor, her running partner and kickboxing trainer. Only he never told her he's Grigori-part human, part angel-and that he was training her for an ancient battle between Angels and Exiles.&nbsp PHOENIX: No one knows where his loyalties lie, yet he's the only one there to pick up the pieces and protect her after Lincoln's lies. In a world of dark and light, he is all shades of gray. Two sides: Angel or Exile. Two guys: Lincoln or Phoenix. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity ? "In her YA paranormal romance debut, Jessica Shirvington combines "the badass-action of Vampire Academy, the complex love triangles of Twilight, and the angel mythology of Fallen, taken one step further." -Book Couture "Shirvington's debut is smart, edgy and addictive-and sure to leave readers clamoring for the rest of the series."- Kirkus Reviews , STARRED "One of the best YA novels we've seen in a while. Get ready for a confident, kick-butt, well-defined heroine." - RT Book Reviews

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Embrace (The Violet Eden Chapters #1) by Jessica Shirvington Violet Eden, the main character, was a whiney, selfish, lust driven, and not to mention stupid girl. I face palmed myself so many times while reading. She does the stupidest things in this book, and she is so selfish it drives me mad. Okay, you don't have a life anymore. Your new life is killing exiled angels and keeping humanity safe with their free will, with a major hot partner. But when she heard this news all she did was scream and cry like a baby. "OMG I DON'T HAVE A NORMAL LIFE ANYMORE. YOU LIED TO ME YOU SELFISH f****ER, I HATE YOU, BLAH BLAH BLAH. FML," And she whined the ENTIRE FREAKING BOOK that this life wasn't what she wanted for herself and she had plans and blah blah blah. Dear God, help me. *face palm*Now, don't get me wrong, the plot is very interesting and the romantic scenes are very well written. But the way it was carried out and the characters, it screwed up everything. This book has potential but all the stupid people in it mar the potential. I'm certain of my decision after reading this book. I will not continue reading the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jam-Packed with Stuff. It was a cool idea and I liked the way the plot played out. The characters were great and well described. I liked how on some you got a bit of a background but others you didn't and I liked how you felt like you knew the character by the end of the book. The events in the book could have been described a bit better but I still loved how everything came together in the end to make the ending just mind blowing. It was never a boring read and I can't wait to read the next one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Compelling Read! I admit it. When I first picked this book up I was expecting it to be another Twilight rip off (which I liked back in the day) but I was thinking it wouldn't be very good. Much to my surprise it was excellent! I've noticed over the last few years or so that there has been a wonderful influx of Australian authors that are taking the lead in the market for their novels especially young adult authors and it seems as those this author is no exception. She's great! I really enjoyed this virst book in the Violet Eden series. I thought that the main character Eden was very refreshing. She wasn't a push over like a lot of the other teenage girl heroines are in other novels. She had backbone, and a kick ass atittude though she did have a couple bouts of whining but whatever she's a teenager it just made her more "real" because she wasn't written with over the top reactions at all. Hallelujah! I thought the whole Grigori thing was really interesting the fact that on her 16th birthday Violet finds out that she's not exactly entirely human. In fact she is half angel and half human making her part of the society of Grigori just like her love interest Lincoln who is her partner. Unfortunately, Violet doesn't react to the wole situation as well as Lincoln would have liked and she ends up with Phoenix who needless to say is not on friendly terms with any of the Grigori except the undecided Violet. Basically there's a whole love triangle thing going on that results in Lincoln getting hurt and Phoenix and Violet getting freaking on a mountain hourse before Violet jumps off the side of a mountain to "Embrace" he Grigori side. So yeah I suppose that in some ways this book was similar to Twilight because there are some recognizable themes and situations. However, I must say that this book is very much it's own novel. There was a lot of action in the novel to balance out the whole romance element so at least there was an equilibrium which was very much needed. I also liked that the characters acted their ages and the dialogue flowed naturally. There was no awkwardness to it and that's something I think everyone can appreciate because not much kills a book more than horrible written dialogue. In the end I thought that Embrace was a compelling read. I think I finished it in 2 nights or something like that and I'm really excited to read the second book in the series Entice. Since the last book finished I've been really curious to see how the next plays out because I'm really interested to see how things play out with the whole love triangle/Grigori situations play out. I would recommend this book to anyone who love urban fantasy young adult novels that have a new and refreshing spin to the whole Angels mythos. It's really well written and I think it's a treat for anyone who is the fan of the genre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "I fell in deep love with this book!" If anyone wants to read a book about angels and love, you've got the right book. The moment I read this book I couldn't stop it was so "addicting." Usually the first chapters of a book are really boring and all but this book, however, was not. From the very beginning it was interesting and to the very end too! I was DEVASTATED when I finished the book and I currently still am. I can't wait for the next book "Enticed" to come out! I'm going to buy ALL her series from Embraced now! I recommend you buy this book because you will want to read some parts over and over again. My favourite characters were Violet, Lincoln, and Phoenix. I loved the heart racing battles between the Lincoln and Phoenix for Violet!!! But I must say the end was quite shocking. Anyways I recommended this to ALL my friends and they love it too! This kind of reminds me of "Twilight", but a lot more intensity when it came to romance. FOR ALL ROMANCE LOVERS: This will surely feed your thirst for a very romantic book! ;)

I loved the whole theme and concept and the plot was great. (Not to mention, I fell in love with the characters!) This book was just- oh my god. No doubt one of the best YA fantasy novel's I've ever read. WOW, I'm still thinking about everything... Anyways, thank you SO much for writing this book Jessica! *TEAM LINCOLN, WOOT!*

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely One of My New Favorites I thought this book was Amazing!! It had a great plot, and is officially one of my new favorite angel books. Jessica Shirvington novel Embrace had action, romance, and mystery that you want to know more of what is happening. It was captivating, addictive and it had amazing characters that you will absolutely love! In this debut Jessica Shirvington will have you from the beginning to the end. I loved Violet! She is one of those characters that is able to defend herself, but at the same time is very independent. Violet is a character with whom I did connect with and similar to ourselves. She will shock you and wanting to root for despite all the drama around 2 hot men who both want her. She discovers more about herself and what she is meant to do. The choices to come will be interesting and I cant wait to read what will happen next. Now to the YUM part!! The boys in this book were HOT, ones that will take your breath away and some that are willing to make sacrifices for. Lincoln who is introduced first is soo cute that I want him! Lincoln really had me from the beginning and his respect for her was one of the reasons he is the perfect man who is loyal. This chemistry will be exciting and painful at the same time But he is hiding something important from Violet, her future and he would sacrifice himself for Violet, At the end, I was so torn between Lincoln and Violets other love interest Phoenix because the writing is brilliant! Phoenix is the bad boy who will also tear your heart and have you begging for more because he is a character full of surprises, and every time either Lincoln or Phoenix were with Violet my heart was racing like crazy!! I still am having trouble of who I want Violet to be with. But these boys are addictive and you must read about them because they are to die for. He was the one who was hard to figure out because he also will surprise you at the end and show himself for who he is. This book will definitely want you to read more by Jessica Shivington because it was out of this world awesome! It has tons of emotion which was very well because the writing was very addicting and I am soo looking forward to the sequel Entice because I need to know what will happen in the next book. The ending was very good, no cliffhanger but it does make you think which is good because it more excitement for the next one. Add this one to your TBR list because it will be one of those books you will always remember!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Seductive World With a Fabulous Angel Lore Jessica Shirvington put into paper one of the best Angel stories I have read so far! Extremely seductive, Embrace will entice you into a world filled of Angel Lore and delicious romance that you wont be able to put down. As a good Angel lover, I have read many angel books. Some have disappointed me, many I have liked, but only Embrace has delighted me in such a way that I can consider this book the beginning of my new favorite Angel Series (and probably one of the best paranormal romance of the year!) Embrace absolutely reaches that high level of quality and I loved every second I spent reading it! I am so dazzle with the world Jessica Shirvington has created. The Angel Lore is so intriguing, captivating and well written that I felt like I was reading a new version of the book of Enoch. I feel like Jessica Shirvington has re-written that book. There are many allusions to the Bible and to the book of Enoch that enriches the world of Embrace, and I absolutely love having all that material in this book. The Angel' hierarchy, the Grigori's mission and Lilith are are just the tip of the iceberg that leads you to a wide base of mythology lying underneath an stunning cover. Embrace truly is a precious gem among YA paranormal romance that nobody should miss! Embrace has a cast of characters that I love, love, love! They are absolutely dazzling, alluring, intriguing, smart, delicious, funny! etc! Violet, for example, is such a real character that she even has flaws. Plus, she is between two boys (two super hot boys!) that have just made it into the Top 5 of my biggest literary crushes. In addition there is Lincoln. He is, from the beginning, the nicest guy ever! and I completely fell for him at first sigh. Plus, Violet's description of him just makes him even better. Yet, the sense of betray that Violet feels after knowing the truth is heartbreaking but understandable. Still, it is impossible to stop loving him ❤ Then, Phoenix comes into the picture and OMG! If I loved Lincoln before....then forget it! Because Phoenix absolutely stole my heart! Phoenix is so unique as a male character. Phoenix is like Good and Evil in just one being. He is so much more that you can ever imagine and at the same time, he is very hard to figure him out. Yet, there are some good reasons behind the mystery of this guy. Having said that, Phoenix is for me, the most delicious and all-consuming character of the book! Now, he certainly has become my favorite male character in YA and I am sure that Phoenix will imprint his name in every reader's heart! Sorry Patch, you got a hell of a competition!! In addition to these three captivating characters, there is Steph, Violet's best friend. Steph is the very welcomed quote of normalcy in this paranormal world. She is very a lovable side character and I couldn't stop laughing whenever she said or did something. In fact, She is more than a great addition to the cast, she is actually an excellent addition to the plot. Embrace is, and still be one of my favorite YA series! This first book in The Violet Eden Chapters surprised me with a perfect plot and themes such as enlightening, sacrifice, and how children should not be judged by their parents' actions. How well do we know ourselves? our friends? the world we live in? Should we sacrifice our own happiness for the greater good? for our duty? Should we condemn people for who their parents' were? This book is certainly more than just a fun read. Embrace is a must-have for every reader who enjoys paranormal stories with a strong romantic and mythological plot. A smart brave heroin, a hot best male friend and a mysterious guy with silky wings is more than enough to make every girl swoon! Embrace is just the beginning of a fascinating new series that will make readers fall-to-their-knees and beg for more and more, even long after they turn the lat page!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An action-packed angelic love story! Embrace starts off like a contemporary YA story before spinning into quite a complex web of angel hierarchy. To be honest, some of the intricacies lost me along the way throughout the middle portion of the book, even though I could absolutely appreciate the in depth details that Shirvington worked into this world she has created. Don't let the beautiful cover fool you into thinking it's just another angelic love story either, there's a substantial amount of action-packed fighting in these pages which breaks up the love triangle storyline - and in some cases, adds to it - quite nicely. While it is paranormal in that it deals with angels, there were moments of the book that were definitely easier to suspend my disbelief than others. Personally, I think I can get on board with the angels and all the otherworldly aspects but once it gets spiritual, it loses me. Overall though, it's a fantastic set-up to the next few books. The writing & research into the hierarchy is greatly detailed and the steamy love triangle definitely will have fans starting up teams for their favourite guy. Looking forward to seeing what the next installment will reveal! This, an interview with Jessica Shirvington, and other reviews can be found on my blog JustaLilLost.com

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Embrace by Jessica Shirvington I have had bad luck in the past with ya angel books. I have never really found one I thoroughly enjoyed. Embrace has changed that. The name of the book, Embrace, had me fooled a little. The dictionary defines embrace as: to take or receive gladly or eagerly; accept willingly: to embrace an idea. I honestly expected to read a story about a young girl who willing rushes in to accept her heritage and defend the earth. It was surprising, yet very interesting, to read instead about this young girl who struggles with this new knowledge and not really wanting to accept the responsibilities and just trying instead to try to decide how to continue living a normal human life, knowing the dangers that will come with that choice. One of the main selling points of this book is the amount of effort Jessica Shirvington puts into the explanation of all the angel types and their pecking order. On Friday, Jessica stopped by my blog and shared a complete post about the pecking order of angels in her series. I suggest you read it. It's fascinating! As is typical in many ya novels recently, we have the two dashing young men (sort of) who are vying for the main character's (Violet in this case) attention. Although I am pretty tired of this type of story, and as frustrated as I was by it when I first saw it happening, I think the author ends it well with a nice twist that I won't share with you. It will be interesting to she what she does with it in book two however, because I can only see it getting annoying again... The characters are wonderfully written and solid believable participants in this story. I liked each one of them for their own reasons, with Lincoln grabbing top spot, followed closely by Griffin (who struck me as a much younger version of a Rupert Giles type character). I know many readers fell in love with Phoenix, but there was something about him that just rubbed me the wrong way. So all you Phoenix lovers out there, have at him! I'll keep my quiet, dedicated partner, Lincoln (Linc). Maybe it's because he reminds me a little of Dimitri Belikov...and we all know how I feel about him... I had issues with Violet off and on as well, and I can't really explain why without giving a lot of the story away, but it all made sense in the end. I actually kind of want to go back and re-read the book knowing what I know now... After reading quite a few poorly written angel books, Embrace was a breath of fresh air. I look forward to the highly anticipated second book, Enticed, due out in September. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a good angel book in the ya genre.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Awesome Begins with Embrace! *Copy was provided by publisher for review* It was, literally, impossible to mask my enthusiasm when I heard that Sourcebooks Fire would be bringing Jessica Shirvington's The Violet Eden Chapters to North America! Until that point, I had only what Australian readers were saying about the series, and it was enough to make me anxious to get my hands on it. When I received a copy for review, several months before the gorgeous cover was even revealed, I couldn't wait to dive into it and finally discover what Australian readers were hyping about. It starts with a whisper: “It’s time for you to know who you are…” Embrace begins with the introduction of Violet Eden, a seemingly average teen girl who dreads the arrival of her seventeenth birthday, which by the way also marks the anniversary of her mother's death. When Violet suddenly begins to have disturbing dreams, some of which mark her, she begins to wonder about their origin. Could they possibly mean something more? What Violet finds, however, is something she never expected. A war centuries-old between fallen angels and those who protect humanity, and secrets about herself that she never would have thought possible. Right from the beginning, I knew that Jessica Shirvington's Embrace would be a novel I'd enjoy! Jessica's writing instantly pulled me in, enveloping me in the world she created. Upon Violet's introduction I instantly found myself perplexed. I wasn't quite sure what to think of her at first. She seemingly irritated me beyond anything I'd previously experienced, yet I somehow found myself connecting and sympathizing her. Violet was, without a doubt, a visibly flawed character, no where near perfection. However, something admirable about her was her determination. Though, with that said, her lack of understanding and emotional instability was her biggest downfall. I LOVE PHOENIX BEST! Paws off, ladies. I said he's mine! Despite my lack of love for Violet, I found myself loving Lincoln and Phoenix. You know what, scratch that - I LOVED PHOENIX BEST! Lincoln, as charming as he was, wasn't someone I found appealing. His overprotective personality came across as sheepish and controlling, while Phoenix's laid back personality came across as freeing. Minor Spoiler: However, with both their introductions to the story, I think it pretty obvious that readers realize that this does indeed quickly turn into a love triangle. Like countless young adult readers, I too tend to be quite wary of love triangles. In fact, I usually prefer to stay away from them if they are mentioned in the synopsis. For the most part they aren't always approached in a positive light, some at times bordering emotional abuse. However, in this case, I didn't quite see it to be an issue in Embrace. Though, that isn't to say that it possibly won't be in future installments, one can only hope for the best. Jessica Shirvington's first installment in the Violet Eden Chapters, Embrace, had an interesting and unique take on angel lore that instantly pulled me in. Young adult readers will find themselves loving Jessica's characters, connecting with them, and begging for the next installment immediately! Luckily, readers will only have to wait until September 2012 for Enticed, Embrace's sequel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Original & fast-paced! Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars! I honestly had to stop re-reading Embrace just to start this review! It's the kind of book that catches your attention from page one and keeps it long even after the last page is turned. Make sure that you have lots of time when you start this because you won't be able to put it down! Embrace is about angels, but it's in no way just another angel book! There are Grigori, and angel exiles, and sacrifices needed to embrace their power. It was so easy to get sucked into the twisting plot with the awesome angel lore — it was enthralling and original to say the least! Violet was the perfect main character for this novel! She was so strong and resilient even when things were completely messed up, and my heart broke for her several times. And Lincoln (♥) and Phoenix deserve every swoon-worthy sigh they get! The romance — sweet and sensual and a little bit dangerous — just tore me apart. Totally enticing and 100% entertaining, Embrace is a book you don't want to miss! It doesn't end on a cliffhanger but I still wish I had the next book with me right now. I can already tell that this series is going to be amazing! :) BUY or BORROW?: You definitely want to own this book so you can re-read it like I already have! And I'm going to get a finished copy just so I can have that gorgeous purple cover on my shelf! ;)
