There's never before been a book like Gallop! Employing a patented new technology called Scanimation, each page is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. It's impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again.

A first book of motion for kids, it shows a horse in full gallop and a turtle swimming up the page. A dog runs, a cat springs, an eagle soars, and a butterfly flutters. Created by Rufus Butler Seder, an inventor, artist, and filmmaker fascinated by antique optical toys, Scanimation is a state-of-the-art six-phase animation process that combines the "persistence of vision" principle with a striped acetate overlay to give the illusion of movement. It harkens back to the old magical days of the kinetoscope, and the effect is astonishing, like a Muybridge photo series springing into action—or, in terms kids can relate to, like a video without a screen. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute Not the most riveting children's book around, but cute nonetheless. The scanimation technology makes it engaging and fun for little ones (I would say 4 and under).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suitable for all ages As a Grade One teacher and grandmother/adoptive auntie of nine young children, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has a young child in their lives. Suitable for ages 2-9, the illustrations are captivating and educational in the nicest way (meaning the child does not have to be aware that he/she is learning about how animals move, but will be fascinated nonetheless.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly cool! My son just got this book as a present... It's so incredible... Not only is my 5 yr old amazed, but so am I and my husband and our 9 month old! It's incredible to see the fluid movements within a single image in a book. It's incredible how he made this... I can't wait to see more from Mr. Seder!
