Helen has spent years as Matthew’s mistress. Years without a full night spent together, years of waiting to be called “the Mrs.” But when Matthew finally leaves his wife, Sophie, Helen suddenly realizes that maybe a full-time relationship with Matthew isn’t what she wants after all. As plan after plan to drive him away fails, Helen becomes desperate enough to befriend Sophie in an attempt to get her to takeMatthew back. And that may be the biggest mistake of all.

A national bestseller, Getting Rid of Matthew will surprise, entertain and ultimately satisfy with its contemporary twist on the classic “other woman” tale.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A light read. At first it was a slow start for me, but this book read fairly quickly and was addictive in some spots. Just when I thought it was becoming too predictable, a new plot twist developed. Helen would not normally be viewed as a likable character, although the author makes you love her throughout all of her mistakes. I also enjoyed how the characters were older and how you read both points of view from the mistress and the wife - slightly different from your average chick lit. It was funny and entertaining at parts. It does contain the usual homewrecker, cheating husband, poor wronged woman who wants him back, bitchy office co-workers, etc. Towards the end I felt I was just trying to finish the book and see what inevitably happens. So overall, not the best chick-lit I have read, but surely not the worst.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the other woman Helen has been the other woman for four years, and has been telling Matthew to leave Sophie (his wife) for as long as she can remember. Now that she gets her wish, it isn't all it is cracked up to be. On top of that she manages to befriend Sophie under false pretenses? What more could happen?!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A View from the Other side.... I don't think I have ever come across a chick-lit novel where the main character was the mistress!! It was very interesting to read this book and see the mindset of the mistress of Matthew, Helen, as she manages to finally gets the guy to leave his wife and realizes that when she thinks about it, she doesn't really want him at all! It sounds kind of strange and illogical, but reading it from her point of view makes it all believable! This book flip-flops between Helen and the wife of Matthew, Sophie, so in actuality you do get to see both sides of the story. This book is written in typically chick-lit fashion, but there was one part which was unexpected for me and that is the man that Sophie introduces Helen/Eleanor to....Buy the book, enjoy, and find out who he is for yourself! : )

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great! This was a quick read told from the side of the "other woman". I loved Helen, her desire to know Sophie and the fact that I was laughing out loud!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Read - More than just chic lit! One reason I really liked this book was because the characters were older than you often find in chic lit. Helen is just about to turn forty and has more real issues (she can't just not stop shopping) than you sometimes find in these books. A guy at work suggested they be called old hen lit!! I made him pay for that remark. Helen has been sleeping with a married man for 4 years when her dreams finally come true and he leaves her wife. Unfortunately, she had just about decided she was sick of him when Matthew moves in. When she tries to break up with him, it doesn't work so she hatches a plan - involving his soon to be ex-wife and a crazy double life as Helen and Eleanor. It is completely fun and well written and you totally get sucked into the characters. You like both Helen and Sophie (the ex-wife) and need to know what happened next. Not a completely probable ending but a satisfying one. I'll definitely be reading her next book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nothing like it. This book was an amazingly quick read and it was very hard to put down. The characters in this book were extremely well developed and kept you grasping for more. This book is a great summer read or any time for that matter, and I highly recommend it for anyone. It was a great book and I hope Jane Fallon follows it with an equally addictive book.
