about

The Canadian National Exhibition grounds are so richly steeped in history that there are spirits that dwell there who like to come out and play and work.

When one thinks of Toronto's Canadian National Exhibition, memories of bright lights, cotton candy, the rush of people, and the excitement of rides spring to mind. But when the lights go down and the people head home, the fairground takes on a life of its own. The spirits that dwell there from the exhibition's long history come out to play and work, even to scare the occasional employee.

The grounds and buildings of the CNE are so richly steeped in history that they are a magnificent storehouse of energy. This area has been in continuous use since before the 18th century, starting with Fort Rouille in 1750 and Fort York in 1793. From murders to accidents, it is no surprise that Exhibition Place is haunted. There are many reasons for spirits to dwell in that site, but it may be the joy and excitement that tempts them to linger. These spirits carried the pride and accomplishment of being part of something grand, something that will live on beyond them. That's the true spirit of the Canadian National Exhibition.

Richard Palmisano has investigated the paranormal for most of his life. He is by trade a security specialist and criminal investigator with 21 years in the field. He has written three previous books, including Ghosts and Journeys into the Unknown. He lives in Toronto.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Phenomenal Book! Richard Palmisano's latest book is part chills, part science, part human interest story, part history, part intrigue and a very entertaining read, overall. The title alone is an eye-opener - how many folks knew that there are ghosts inhabiting the grounds of Exhibition Place?! Once they learn that the area's (recorded) history dates back to battles fought there during the war of 1812, then they may appreciate its significance as a starting point for restless spirits returning! Add to them, those who constructed and maintained - sometimes dying in - the present-day buildings over a 100+ year period, then it should be obvious why these souls choose to reside or revisit the CNE. Palmisano's documentation of the real-life adventures of his team, The Searcher Group is a MUCH more interesting read than the collections of second-hand tales authored by Columbo or Boyle, to name a couple. I only hope that there will be a follow-up volume, detailing their findings in the CNE buildings they weren't able to access! As an added bonus to the CNE reports, Palmisano includes a section detailing his ground-breaking theories on what ghosts are, how they manifest and how we may be able to finally communicate with them, some day! After reading this book, there's no way I'll be able to visit the CNE and regard it in the same way again! Thanks for the scares, Richard! Can't wait for your next book!!

Editorial Reviews

There is very convincing material in the book, and you don't need ghostly fiction to feel fear, because this is the real thing. Skeptic or not, there is enough in this book to make you a frightened believer. - Shelf Life (London, ON
