about

Harry Potter is a wizard. He is in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's always a relief after summer with the Dursleys, however, Harry doesn't realise that this year will be just as eventful as the last two! The atmosphere at Hogwarts is tense. There's an escaped mass murderer on the loose, even the Muggles have been warned. The sinister prison guards of Azkaban have been called in to guard the school and Harry, Ron and Hermione rapidly discover why all witches and wizards live in fear of being sent to Azkaban. Lessons, however, must go on and there are lots of new subjects in the third year - Care of Magical Creatures and Divination among others. Plus the delights of Hogsmeade, the only village in the UK entirely populated by the magical community.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO GOOD! I loved this book. I love Lupin and the way that you start to understand more of the history behind why Snape dislikes Harry so much. My favorite part of the book was the boggart and who he turns into. I love the creatures that Rowling brings into the story and the detail to bring them to life to the point where you go into the woods and hope you see a bowtruckle guarding a tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plot Twists Galore Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were only mere tastes of the insanity to come in this series. Prisoner of Azkaban takes a break from dealing with Voldemort directly to instead look at the effect he has had on the greater world around him, and it gives Rowling ample opportunity to craft an adventure that is actually capable of standing on its own when separate from the rest of the series. Every page reveals a new delight, some extra detail that can be picked up on while rereading, and is absolutely one of the best in the series.
Date published: 2018-08-11

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The book is always better than the movie This is quite possibly my favourite book in the series (however I could also argue that they are all my favourite!) I love Sirius and how J.K. Rowling ended this book. I also loved finding out who sent Harry that broom and the significance behind it! Amazing read
Date published: 2018-07-04
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Way Better Than the Movie Probably my least favourite Harry Potter book, as I find it gets a little repetitive story wise, but has exciting plot twists and mystery. Harry and friends are faced with more revealing information regarding the first war against Lord Voldemort, and the events leading to Harry's becoming an orphan. The climatic events in the book are riveting, and make up for the characters frustrating actions.
Date published: 2018-06-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Harry Potter Book This is my favourite in the series- so many heart-pulsing moments.
Date published: 2018-06-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favourite book in the series! This book tore out my heart and reshaped everything I ever knew about family not just being blood relation, and not judging a book by it's cover because there is so much more to a person than what can be seen on the outside. Such a beautiful plot and effortless writing. So in love!!
Date published: 2018-06-19

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Siriously* You Gotta Read This If you're a fan of the movies or just a fan of fantasy tales, and you haven't read Harry Potter, you should siriously* get on it (see what I did there for those of you who read the book). Anyways, Rowling delivers again with a fresh new installment that also develops the lore of the Wizarding world of Harry Potter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Who doesn't love Harry Potter? Pretty cover! I had to buy this edition for a childrens lit class. Wrote an essay on it. Got an A. Score.
Date published: 2018-05-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Siriusly loved this book I think in the third book we start to see some more difficult ideas being introduced in the series. There's now some difficulty between right and wrong, innocent and guilty, and Harry and his friends have to struggle to figure out what they believe. Like the first two, I think this one is still an easy read but with some heavier content, shaping up the story for the real maturation point in the next book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing book I really really liked this book, and I don't really feel like making a coherent review, so instead, here's a somewhat coherent list: - I really loved a lot of the characters in this book - Specifically the introduction of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. There is genius stuff in this book. - Also the Marauders map - The epicness of the Knight bus - I also thoroughly loved Professor Lupin and Sirius Black. I was thoroughly shocked by the outcome of the story, although I did have some suspicions - I really liked it when Snape told Harry that he needed to "take Sirius Black very seriously" - I also became very anxious during the quidditch scenes, and I was so nervous and simultaneously excited for each game. - Much chocolate in this book which was very good - I was extremely bored by the subplot about Buckbeak, Hagrid's Hippogriff - Aunt Marge was so horrible to Harry (but there are actually so many characters in the series that I love to hate) - I hated Crookshanks. And look, I already hate cats, and I know that he actually did have good intentions... But I still really didn't like him - This is maybe the first Harry Potter book I've read where, upon finishing, I am now really excited to read the next one in the series

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Magical Favourite of the Series. It is year 3 at Hogwarts and the adventure continues. As Harry and his friends grow, so does the story. More secrets are revealed, and more questions added to the ever expanding Wizard World. Even years later, this still my favourite book of the entire series. Although it can be enjoyed at any age (I continue to re-read over a decade later), I recommend kids and pre-teens are the ideal age for this series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVED this book! I took this book with me everywhere, I could not put it down. I would find myself talking about the book even when the conversation I was having wasn't relevant to HP. Sirius Black is the most amazing godfather anyone could ever have. The movie was alright, not how I would imagine it. I loved everything in this book from the black grim to dementors to Malfoy to Ron finding out his rat was an actual human. This book will forever be my favourite book in the HP series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite Favorite novel in the series. I don't even have the words. This novel is action packed, full of secrets and lies. I don't think I could love this novel more. It pacts such an emotional punch. My favourite <3 If you're rating this novel less than 5 stars...you clearly do not understand phenomenal writing that is complex, action packed, fills you with tons of emotions, and moves the story forward in a way you were not expecting! This novel is truly indicative of the magnitude of this series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Yet another amazing book by J.K. Rowling. A great read.
Date published: 2018-01-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Page Turner This is one of my favourite Harry Potter books and it was so much fun to discuss it in my book club recently. Rowling is certainly bringing in more of the dark aspects of the wizarding world in this installment. I find it fascinating how Rowling brings in so many important themes into her writing, such as discrimination and wrongful convictions without proper investigation and evidence — there is an almost World War 2 feel to some of what went on in the wizarding world under Voldemort. And then there are the dementors themselves and the fact that the wizarding world is alright partnering up with them, emphasizing again how everything is not always wonderful in the world of magic. There are also great themes around friendship in this book. Harry and his friends argue and act moodily, just like regular teenagers. And then there is the friendship of Harry’s parents, their friends and their dynamic, and how they bullied Snape. The good and bad of being friends is explored. Overall, I loved the pacing and the tension and the humour in The Prisoner of Azkaban. There is so much adventure and looming peril that it is hard not to get completely engrossed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A third book that does the series credit. In many book series, the second or third book is the weak point, but in the Harry Potter series the Prisoner of Azkaban was not a letdown at all. Quite the contrary: it was a growing point for the story. Once again, it still has 'more of the good stuff', contimuing to hold the magical interest and intrigue that the previous two did, albeit to a lesser extent, but now Harry is growing older, he is maturing, and he meets his past and beginning in this book, when he encounters his godfather. The origin story is told alongside a little developing romance, animagi are introduced, a family animal has a strange connection to Harry's past, and Harry begins to meet the negativity of the magical world. Read book 3 for new yet familiar adventure in magic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite. Prisoner of Azkaban has always been and still is my favourite of all the HP novels. Sirius, Lupin, the Marauder's Map, Buckbeak, the kids' first outings to Hogsmeade... I mean, this book has it all. And it's such an important installment that really paves the way to the later books' darker tone and events.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. In my opinion, POA is one of the best in the series while very underrated by fans. Don't let the lack of Voldemort's presence fool you, there are many valuable plot points that point at future events! The end of this instalment is also perhaps the turning point of when the books start to take a darker turn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best Potter books Coming off of Chamber of Secrets, which I thought was the weakest Potter novel, we get Prisoner of Azkaban, which is arguably one of the strongest. Whereas book 2 felt safe and went over familiar territory, book 3 really expands on the lore, the world and most importantly, the characters. This novel is a huge turning point in the series and offers so much insight into the wizarding world. #staffreviews
