about

It is Fall 2008, the recession is in full swing and Kate Shaw is about to turn forty. As an acting beauty editor for a fashion magazine, Kate has glided from contract to contract only to be told that, due to cutbacks, her services are no longer required. Through no fault of her own she finds herself single, homeless and desperate to help her family survive its own financial and emotional crises. Known for her love of all things Jane Austen, Kate is given a freelance gig that changes everything: is it possible, in these modern times-and at a certain age-to marry well?

What starts as an article quickly turns into Kate's real-life quest. From the polo fields of West Palm Beach to the slopes of St. Moritz and the glamour of London's social scene, Kate, who gets mistaken for an aristocrat-Lady Kate-chases the man of her dreams, a charming and elegant older financier. But she keeps running into a brooding Englishman, Griffith Kent, who works at an impeccably Austenesque estate called Penwick Manor. Caught between Mr. Rich and maybe Mr. Right, Kate must choose what she really wants out of life: to marry for money or marry for love.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So cute Understand that this novel isn’t a retelling of any of Jane Austen’s novels, but a lovely story of Kate who finds herself without a home, a steady job and most importantly to her, a husband. When her editor comes up with a story, The Jane Austen Marriage Manual is born. Her goal is to find a husband to marry for financial security. Along the way she finds out what she’s willing to give up for money. I stumbled upon this book via Twitter when Harper Collins asked if anyone was a Jane Austen fan. I definitely am. Pride and Prejudice is one of my ultimate favourite novels! This book was an absolute delight. I haven’t read chick lit in a while and I’m glad I took the little break and read this one. Kate was a delight and pretty persistent in her goals, and I couldn’t help but know what she was going to choose. Although, I’m not a fan of how Kate goes about trying to fend for herself, being dishonest and using people for their money screams gold digger, but at least she knew what mattered in the end. The secondary characters add so much more to the plot, and I love every single one Kate met along the way. Cute and predictable, The Jane Austen Marriage Manual was a quick read and I couldn’t help but finish it in one sitting. Definitely pick this up if you enjoy a good read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute A very quick and lighthearted read. The story outline is a modern version of Jane Austen's novels of a forty year old seeking to marry for money. At times I found myself laughing out loud. Great read for all ages!

?A ?self-professed Jane Austen addict? tries her hand at gold-digging, with disastrous and hilarious results, in Izzo?s charming first novel?. Kate?s search for love contains a surfeit of laugh-out-loud moments. Spectacular descriptions of lavish, character-filled parties add further froth to the escapist fantasy." ? Publishers Weekly ()
