They died with smiles on their faces. Three apparent suicides: a brilliant engineer, an infamous lawyer, and a controversial politician. Three strangers with nothing in common--and no obvious reasons for killing themselves. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas found the deaths suspicious. And her instincts paid off when autopsies revealed small burns on the brains of the victims. Was it a genetic abnormality or a high-tech method of murder? Eve's investigation turned to the provocative world of virtual reality games--where the same techniques used to create joy and desire could also prompt the mind to become the weapon of its own destruction...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not the best in the series, but not bad This entry in the "In Death" series was just okay as far as the murder and it's investigation goes. Even I figured out whodunnit before Eve did, and I'm usually the last one to do that. But the best part about this series for me is the character development of Eve, and, to a slightly lesser extent, Roarke. I absolutely LOVE these characters! They are complex and flawed, but so fascinating and likeable that I just can't get enough of either of them. This book continues the progression of who both of them are, how they got to be that way, and how they are changing and growing by being together. Completely aside from their love story - which thanks to Roberts is smoking hot - from a psychological perspective these people are really intriguing. The murders Eve solves in these books are sometimes more and sometimes less interesting, but her personality evolution will keep me coming back for more every time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book, poor ending Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns for another round of solving crime in the future with her sexy hubby Roarke by her side. This time round, Eve investigates what at first looks to be suicides. But soon Eve starts to see a pattern, including an anomaly on each victim's brain scan. As always, there is fantastic chemistry between Eve and Roarke. I also like that Peabody and Feeney came back. I'm hoping that Peabody finds a man soon! As much as I enjoy this series though, I am really starting to get tired of the way Robb ends her books. Eve always finds out who the murderer is a moment too late when she walks into a trap all alone. Then she pulls a confession out of them while waiting for backup. I don't think there has been an 'in death' book that hasn't ended this way! This one was worse than normal though. Eve was in the office of the murderer and was looking at their computer screen which was just jumbled code. Then all the sudden it turns into the name of someone that was murdered? Yah, ok there. The next book in the series BETTER not end like this!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rapture In Death In the fourth installment of the series, Eve Dallas and Roarke are finally married. But if you think that is slowing them down, you've got another thing coming. People are dying with smiles on their faces, and Eve Dallas smells murder. With dogged determination, Eve tries to find a killer while proving that a murder really did happen. Gritty and in your face, this book proves that Eve Dallas is a heroine with guts and class. Even if she doesn't have a pedigree. You've got to read this series. It never disappoints the reader.
