Rated 4 out of 5 by from I enjoyed the first book immensely. If you like murder mysteries in the Agatha Christie style, want that style updated by 30 years, and are open to an underage sleuth, you will enjoy this book. The author has created a main character and her family which both appall and appeal. The second book moves a little more slowly but still retains the interest as does the third.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming account This is a charming account of a little girl growing up in post-war England who is the "black sheep" in a trio of sisters. Flavia's pursuits are so at odds with convention that she must find another way to make her mark. And she does.....by aiding the police in their "enquiries." Her encyclopedic knowledge of chemistry gets her into, and out of, any number of difficult situations. You"ll laugh and you"ll cry as you follow Flavia into action. Try it; one of the most delightful reads I have had in a very long time. Did I mention she's only eleven.
