When Ava enlists Uncle for help, she discovers his health is failing and is forced to turn to a former client, the cunning and seductive May Ling Wong. As Ava follows the money trail, she finds herself drawn deeper and deeper into Hong Kong's dark and deadly world of organized crime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Red Pole of Macau I started with the first Ava Lee novel and have read through all of them. Great reads! Different from the average fiction- mystery. These books captivate and make you want to learn what Ava knows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ava Lee kicks butt again! Reading Ava Lee novels is captivating. She is my virtual world heroine. Reading the adventures of this diminutive martial arts-trained Asian beauty as she administers street justice to hardened criminals and bullies offers me a therapeutic experience equal to none. The locales and the characters are always exotic and exciting (this time Macau). The novels offer a fresh window on criminal forensic accounting, the Asian culture in general, and the criminal activities of the Triad in particular. Although not essential, I recommend reading the novels in chronological order of their publication for maximum enjoyment. There is a flow in the development of Ava Lee and her relationships that is exciting to witness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best One Yet! I wasn't sure what the author could do to make another Ava book unique but - wow! Involving her family made it incredibly suspensful. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Page Turner This is the best book yet! I have read all four and this one can't be put down. Ian takes us to Hong Kong and Macau where Ava faces a challenging adversary as the traditional methods don't apply when it is clear he no longer respects their "customs" and something more important than money is at stake - her family's reputation. If you are not already a fan, this book will convert you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't put it down! Red Pole of Macau gives a fascinating glimpse into the dangerous world of Hong Kong and Macau organized crime. Ava Lee is resolute and resourceful as she pursues justice, but this time finds that her values are challenged in order to protect her family, who are spread across Canada, Australia, and China. This book is a riveting read that you won't easily put down until it is finished!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner for Ian Hamilton!! Ian Hamilton's, The Red Pole of Macau, can be described as a gourmet meal that you want to savor and praise for his delicious writing style. Hamilton is a skilled writer who selects only the choicest ingredients and combines them to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Ava Lee's latest assignment takes her to Hong Kong and Macau to resolve some "family business" involving Hong Kong Triads. Hamilton's characterizations are powerful - we learn more about Ava Lee's relationship with her family. The plot moves along rapidly, with the suspense building all the way. I brought this book to the cottage over the weekend. In my opinion, no mystery novel makes a more satisfying holiday read than a well-crafted suspense thriller. If you agree, than make sure you pack THE RED POLE OF MACAU into your weekend bag before you head to the cottage. Entertaining summer fare!
