about

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.
Stephenie Meyer is the author of the #1 bestselling Twilight Saga and The Host. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English literature, and she lives with her husband and three young sons in Arizona.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The book that got me into reading Every time I finish this novel it leaves me completely dazed in a book hangover. My emotions bled during every chapter, as I related to Bella on a very deep level. This is my fourth time reading Twilight, and I honestly have a whole new perspective on our main characters. I see how worthless and depressed Bella got. Questioning her value and thinking it unfathomable that someone could love her so strongly. Edward shows her unconditional love, something I was lucky enough to find myself at such a young age. I understand all of Bella’s emotions and I rooted for her the entire novel. Yes, I’ve read Twilight quite a few times, but regardless, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, I couldn’t put it down, the story was too captivating. Bella will forever be one of my favourite characters in Young Adult history. I love her sarcasm and personality. She reminded me a lot of myself, and she will do anything to protect the people she loves. A trait I admire so much. Steamy Edward. My heart couldn't help but beat faster with his captivating presence. Jacob was so young and naive, his character kind of got on my nerves a bit, but it’s only cuz I’m so obsessed with Edward. When a human falls in love with a vampire, a once simple life becomes filled with adrenaline, danger and a world Bella could have only dreamed of. I give Twilight 5 stars as it’s always been one of my favourite books since the first time I finished this magnificent story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it The series gets a bad rep because of the movies but I really enjoyed it. I thought this one was very good and have read it on multiple occasions

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No, just no. I found these books entertaining when I was in grade school... what a waste of time and money. Now that I have grown a little I see just how bad these are. Terrible writing, unlikable main characters. Just bad. And yet, still better than the movie.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like It I read this book just after it was published and I really enjoyed it. At the time I loved the story and characters and couldn't put it down. If you don't compare it too the film, it's an entertaining story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite book! This book is the best book I have ever read. Impossible to put down, it is an excellent combination of romance, thriller and mystery. The main character, Bella Swan, is lovable and her clumsiness will make you laugh. With it's many twists and turns it is absolutly impossible to put down. I highly recommend this book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good As a person who doesn't like romance, Twilight was a rare one I actually liked - thus quite surprising. Some parts were cliche and of course I cringed at the romance. However, there is an interesting plot that draws readers in, and Stephenie Meyer is a fantastic author; you can tell just by the way she writes, and I haven't been disappointed by her adult novels. Interested enough to read the next book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from loved I read this book a while ago and would recommend it for teenagers specifically. I finished it in about 2 days, very beautifully written.
Date published: 2018-08-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good Not a fan of romance, which likely influences this review, but I read it due to the hype around it. I really like Stephenie Meyer's writing and moved onto her other novels (which I loved), but the plot was a bit cliche and not much character complexity or development. However, it kept me interested enough to try the next book in the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a must read! One of my favorite fantasy and romance series. Have to look past the mixed reviews and just give it a read. Love the character developments and how both Edward and Jacob are different and how everything just wraps up nicely by the last book

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't get enough!!! I reluctantly started this book, I am not a fan of vampires and that is all I thought it was. Boy, was I wrong!! This love story had me in the first chapter and I read it in one sitting until it was done. Then I moved through the rest of the series quickly as they were released. This book was impossible to put down ( and I am an adult), absolutely loved it when it came out and still love it now. Its the book series that is my escape from reality.
Date published: 2018-07-25
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time Not my kind of read, very repetitive, not exciting.
Date published: 2018-07-20
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh Liked it more as a teen but not so much now. It was similar to most other teen love stories. It's a little boring and didn't capture my interest.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Liked it then not so much now I did enjoy this book when I was younger but not so much now. #plumreview

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overhyped I used to really like this series until it was pointed out to me how abusive the relationship was and then I bashed on this series like crazy. But now I'm older and am over the internalized misogyny. So what's the review? This book is almost 400 pages but it reads super fast because the writing is sufficient. It's simple and does its job of moving the story along. The romance is abusive and the characters are bland. Well Bella and Edward are. As the series progressed, you realize how the other vampires Edward hangs out with have the most insane backstories so you could be focusing on them (like how Jasper was in the civil war) but then you focus on Edward and Bella's weird romance.
Date published: 2018-06-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nostalgic I've read this book every year since I was 9, and I can't get enough! 10 years and I am still addicted and continuously drawn into the lives of Bella and the Cullens.
Date published: 2018-05-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what it promised to be, entertaining. If you're looking for a life changing, revolutionary novel - you're in the wrong place. If you are searching to be entertain for a couple hundred pages by a compelling love story with a 'vampiric' twist. This is the book for you. It is a story of vampires that is able to comfortably sit in the young adult section, while still being entertaining to 'old' adults too.
Date published: 2018-05-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice This first book's good but the rest of the series isn't
Date published: 2018-04-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Typical It was a quick and easy read, entertaining the whole way through. However, it's typical through and through - an indulgent teenage girl fantasy.
Date published: 2018-04-19
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good This series gets a lot of flack but gosh I can't help but still love it. Yes it is corny and sometimes Bad but it's irresistible in its own way. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Honestly, Not Bad at All. I read the entire series when I was twelve and really enjoyed the books and now, as I look back, I can see why. Certainly better than the movies. The characters are much more likeable and interesting, especially Edward. Really enjoyed the dynamics between Edward and Bella and how clean the novels are. Not bad at all, in my opinion. Worth a try, right?
Date published: 2018-04-02

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it This book was a fantastic way to start the series.
Date published: 2018-03-09
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A good book if you're a teenager I read this when I was a teen and it was a good read for a young mind who was really clueless about everything lol. However, looking back Bella is not the best role model for young girls as she's clingy about only cares about Edward, her boyfriend.
Date published: 2018-03-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Bad I'm so relieved the whole Twilight craze is over, not the fandom craze, but the insane amount of unwarranted hate it got. It's a decent book, it's definitely not for everyone, just like all book aren't for everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from REALLY good I think so many opinions have been based around the movies, but the story is such a worth while read. I enjoyed it so much more than the movies (and I really liked the movies too!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely one of the better books in YA fantasy fiction This is a surprisingly well-developed narrative with interesting and believable characters. Is definitely worth the hype and in my opinion much better than the screen interpretation.
Date published: 2018-02-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't bother Not worth the time. I like the concept, but I found it too cheesy and the characters were too over the top. Even though I strongly dislike Bella, I'm team Jacob. Edward is just as annoying as Bella.
Date published: 2018-02-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good book The movie does not do the book justice. Stephanie Meyer is a superb author and her work in Twilight reflects that. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great when you're young I loved these books when I was around 11 and 12. I finished each book in about 2 days. A definite plus is that they encouraged me to read more during an age where I was beginning to lose interest in books. Not necessarily something I would read now in my 20s, but it's great for tween's.
Date published: 2018-01-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this story This book holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the first novels I read back when I wasn't into reading. It took me a long time to finish it, but something about it kept me going. I love to pick up my old hardcover every once in a while and read it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good When I first read it I was a teenager. It's a good young adult novel. I enjoyed it at the time.
Date published: 2018-01-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favourite of the Series! It goes without saying, but the first book in a series is usually the best (that isn't to say there are no exceptions). Meyer hit Twilight out of the park, and to know that she derived the plot all from a dream about Edward and Bella sparling in the sun...wow! A great start to a well-written series.
Date published: 2018-01-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Guilty pleasure for always This is probably the book I've reread the most on my shelf, all when I was a young teenager. I loved the story, the characters, and of course the romance. It has a unique plot, and the vampires themselves are such a cool concept. I never considered this to be some literary masterpiece, but it is an extremely entertaining romance book with elements of the paranormal that I really loved wholeheartedly. This is a young adult series that captured the hearts of so many for a reason.
Date published: 2018-01-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good read for fiction keeps you on your toes, interesting and different kind of read
Date published: 2018-01-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great People are very harsh on this series when it's meant for a younger audience. Sure it's a little corny, but it's a good story that sucks you into its unique world and an easy read that is a great and fun page turner.
Date published: 2018-01-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable A very enjoyable series, not meant to be an outstanding piece of literature but instead a love story that will make you feel 13 years old again falling in love with reading. Bella is much more likeable in the books than the movies, and Meyer writes in an easy to read and pleasant style. Nice plot development.
Date published: 2018-01-14

Date published: 2018-01-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting Read I read this when I was in high school and I couldn't put it down. This world was interesting and the love story of course- every teenage girls dream - lol
Date published: 2018-01-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just Ok This book was kind of entertaining when I was younger, but now when I try to read it, it just isn't very good or very well written.
Date published: 2018-01-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Twilight This series is very hyped up and it is very immaturely written. I like to read books with strong lead females and the lead female in this series is very weak, desperate and submissive. Not a very good role model for young girls.
Date published: 2018-01-04
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad. Read this years ago and was intrigued by the unique world surrounding the vampires and wolves.
Date published: 2018-01-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from i loved this series I read these books in highschool, 10 years later I am still reading them and watchign the movies!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings I hate to admit but Twilight was my first obsession when I read it back in grade 6. It was the first series I fangirled over. At the time I loved the story, but as the movies came out I started to dislike the series more. The movies were way worse than the books. After reading more books I started to realize that the Twilight books not as good as my grade 6 self-thought they were. The story and characters are okay at most, but I'm still glad that my younger self was able to enjoy them at the time.
Date published: 2017-12-29
Rated 2 out of 5 by from First Read in Middle School It was like an epidemic. One girl read it, convinced another one, and another one, and another one to read it too. Before we knew it, our entire class had read it. When a book can manage to do that to a bunch of 12/13 year olds who really don't have an interest in reading, you have to admit, the author must have done something right. But also, the book is pretty poorly written. One of my 12/13 year old classmates could have just as likely written this based on the writing style, language, and grammar.
Date published: 2017-12-18
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Twilight I liked this when I was a kid but in hindsight it does not have the best female role model character or a very functional relationship.
Date published: 2017-12-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite book of the series Love that I can now listen to this book! Happy I bought it.
Date published: 2017-12-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Loved! I read this book in 2 days! Granted that was before the movies came out. I think that reading the books was a completely different experience. Though, a lot of the details were the same in movie vs. book...I loved that I got to imagine everything myself first, before having a perceived idea already.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I read the book after I saw the movie Like the title says, I read the book after I saw the movie. I thought to myself, the book HAS to be better than this right?! And I was right, cause the books usually are. Read the book, don't watch the movie #myopinion Lol

Date published: 2017-11-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I enjoyed this series. Get story. Writing was a little rough at times but I still enjoyed the series as a whole.
Date published: 2017-11-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from like it good descriptions but not the greatest plot
Date published: 2017-10-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I found it to be written very well, but the plot was overall cheesy
Date published: 2017-10-27
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overall badly written The writing in and of itself is absolutely abysmal, with long, unnecessarily detailed descriptions that do nothing to further the plot as well as characters who are so flat and one dimensional they might as well have been run over by a truck. Furthermore, Meyer seems to romanticize unhealthy romantic tropes such as stalking, possessiveness, and codependency. The only reason why I would purchase or even read these series is to glean a greater understanding of how and why it has become a pop culture phenomenon. If you're looking for decent literature however, this is not the book for you.
Date published: 2017-10-24
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had some decent moments, but tough to get through I really had to push myself to finish this book, I could not wrap my head around it the way its die-hard fans did. While Stephenie Meyer’s take on vampires is intriguing, Bella was too boring and Edward was too perfect for them to be relatable characters. While I normally enjoy the paranormal teen genre, the story wasn’t for me. It did have a few decent moments, like when Jacob tells Bella some of the Quilyeute legends and the part where the Cullens play baseball. Just an okay read in my opinion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much better then the movie I really enjoyed it the first time I read it, and as I said it's infinitely better then the movie. I've read it multiple times now though, and I can definitely say it loses some of it's appeal over time. Not a bad book, but not my favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Story I read this book about a month ago and it was a good thing I did. Twilight is a suspenseful novel and will open your mind to an undying love story between a human and a vampire (Bella and Edward). This book is a great read for teens and it's perfect for someone who's looking for a good novel to read. I would recommend this novel to friends, family, and even strangers! Read this amazing book to find out what happens!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from don't really understand the hype I love reading, I love vampires, and I could not stand this book. I hate to hate or dislike a book because I appreciate books so much and all the hard work it takes to create them. However, I have tried numerous times to get into this book and every time it is just a huge bore. I didn't connect with any character and the book itself is very poorly written. Maybe if I had read the other books? Not sure why there is so much hype behind these books. I wouldn't recommend these books in general, but to somebody who really loved the books it would be good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Twilight I don’t understand the need to take this so seriously, to talk like the characters needed to be role models, as if the girls and women who read this aren’t intelligent enough to realize it’s just fiction it’s not a guide for how to live their actual lives, sometimes it’s okay for a book to just be fun entertainment, it feels like we’re in danger of forgetting that. #plumreview

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't really like it I don't know why the first book is known as the best out of the series, its really not. I prefer the second book, "New Moon" which so much better. You might like it, but it wasn't really that good. I recommend to just watch the first movie or read the graphic novel, then read the second, third, and fourth book. If you loved this book, don't read "Life and death: Twilight reimagined". Its not worth your time, or your money to buy. If you plan on watching the movies after reading the series,, I'm telling you now, that "Twilight" and "Breaking Dawn part one" are the worst in the movie franchise, and just stick to the books/graphic novels. Enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! I found this book to be a real page turner and so hard to put down! I love the romance in this book! Certainly worth reading, especially if you are a teen or young adult (or even adult!).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nope. Only got "into" reading this because EVERYONE was reading it back when I was in high school. I held off for a long time but eventually gave in and read it. Wish I hadn't given in to what was "popular" and just ignored it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The start of the Vampire Craze when twilight came out, vampires were seen as scary and evil, but that changed. Vampires became brooding and dark and mysterious. This started the craze many teenage girls went through. That being said, twilight is an alright book. better than the movie by far

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than the movie! When the Twilight craze first started after the movie was released, I really didn't know what all the fuss was about since the movie was so terrible. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE LOVE LOVE This is absolutely my favorite book/ series. The amount of passion and love between the two main charters is so strong and portrayed beautifully by the author. These books have kept me on my toes between conflicts in the story.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh I couldn't really connect with Bella. She's always apologizing for things that aren't her fault. Also Edward is incredibly jealous and controlling. Not a relationship young girls should aspire to be in.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as bad as it's made out to be I read this a long time ago when a friend loaned it to me, I took it for what it was, a teenage fluff book, not terrible but not good either, I stayed away from the movie and the craze that surrounded this though

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ambivalent. I certainly do not understand the phenomenal success this book has had but it remains an enjoyable read for young adults. As far as writing and plot go, this is not a very imaginative book but in the end it seems to have reached a huge readership. Obviously then, its themes and tropes appealed to some.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not that great I did not find much development nor found myself intrigued by the characters. The story itself is kind of intriguing, but I had more issues with the characters. I myself wouldn't want someone watching me all night on a regular basis.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I bought this at the recommendation of a friend. Don't waste the money! The book is badly written with an unoriginal plot. The characters are two dimensional, and Edward is a joke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It Will you all hate me if I say that I love this book? Well that's too bad. As much as these books are criticized and judged, there is a reason that so many people (namely women) have read and enjoyed this series. It's interesting and captivating and I'm going to continue re-reading it no matter how much hate I get.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just An Opinion! The books were so much better then the movies, and they catch your attention. Not the best review, but its definitely worth the read. The other ones are to, found it difficult to put the book down to go to bed when I was reading them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible!!! Apparently, I was living under a rock because I didn't read this book until all the movies had come out and I was expecting a really bloody story filled with action and vampires. That being said, I was really surprised that it was a love story but I still enjoyed it immensely! I couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Was okay. It was worth reading, but I don't think I would ever read it again. It was the beginning of supernatural stories, and so was a bit unique. I'm not sure how much it would stand up now with the environment inundated with vampires. Story was okay. Easy, interesting-ish read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good for a teenage story Stephenie Meyer... I think she is a terrific story teller but not the greatest writer of all time, although she has gotten better over time. There were times in this book (and her others) where I was nauseated by the excessive romance. However I do love a good romance story and this is one of them. I could really relate to Bella as I feel that I used to be very much like her in so many ways when I was her age. I've since grown and developed better boundaries and more self worth but people seem to forget that she is really young in this book and her immaturity in romance is very understandable and realistic for her type of personality. Kudos to Stephenie Meyer for writing such impact-full books.
