about

Shel Silverstein, the New York Times bestselling author of The Giving Tree, A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, and Every Thing On It, has created a poetry collection that is outrageously funny and deeply profound. Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins.

You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings stretches the bounds of imagination and will be cherished by readers of all ages. This is a collection that belongs on everyone's bookshelf. Makes a great gift for special occasions such as holidays, birthdays, and graduation.

And don't miss Runny Babbit Returns, the new book by Shel Silverstein!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little piece of my childhood that can be passed down to my son. Shel Silverstein played a huge part in my literary adventures as a child, and as a new mother I was ecstatic the moment my mother-in-law handed me a copy for my newborn son I nearly cried tears of joy thinking of the laughs he will have reading the same poems that both his father and I grew up on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Memories of my childhood! I remember my teacher reading Shel Silverstein's poems in class and I begged my parents to buy me this book as a child. My favourite ones are "Peanut Butter Sandwich", "Sick", "Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too", "Jimmy Jet and His TV Set" and "Melinda Mae". I gave this book to my student for Christmas and he loved it! I still enjoy reading the same poems over and over again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent childrens book! I read this book when I was young and so did my husband. We both loved it. We bought a copy for our 5 year old son and he asks us to read from it every night. He even practiced reading one poem he thought was hilarious and then read it to his kindergarten class. It was a big hit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Delight For Every Child --- and Adult! I first bought this book 30 years ago when my son was born. He absolutely adored it and we spent countless hours sharing it and having so much fun together. Since then I have bought one for new babies for friends and family and it has never failed to bring joy to generations of children. I just bought the latest copy for the birth of my niece's new daughter, and, as always, Shel Silverstein's charming poems and drawings have worked their magic. I highly, highly recommend this addition to your library!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book Just a great book. Wonderful imagination, playful use of language, a celebration of the absurd and comical, but with plenty of touching moments and wisdom as well. Great for introducing children to the joy of poetry, which most kids don't hear a lot of.
