Rose had wanted to do her bit for the war effort, help the boys who were risking their lives fighting the Germans and the Japanese, and maybe see a little of the world along the way. But there was no way she could have predicted the horrors she would encounter and the difficult choices she would have to make.

Rose Krantz has made it through nursing school and much to everyone’s dismay, most notably her boyfriend, Malcolm, she joins the Army Nurse Corps. Her first assignment is at Camp Crowder, Missouri. There she meets three nurses who see her through three years in a tent evacuation hospital, four foreign countries, and more human misery than they could have imagined. What they encounter shakes even Rose’s resolve to see it through. These women, and a corpsman by the name of Alfred, form bonds that will last a lifetime.

When the war in Europe is finally over, Malcolm surprises Rose with a romantic trip to Salzburg, Austria, where Rose finally realizes what is truly important in her life only days before she was to lose it.

A Burnished Rose entertains, inspires, and reminds us what life was like for women of that era, and for the nurses who, right along with the men, made significant sacrifices for their country.

Editorial Reviews

I really enjoyed this account of a Rose, a fictional nurse during World War II. The author elicited a myriad of emotions, from humor to sorrow, and she obviously put a lot of time and effort into her research. I would recommend this book for fans of historical fiction as well as women's literature. It'll be interesting to see where the next installment leads. J.M. Morris-----------------------------A BURNISHED ROSE" WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A LONG LONG TIME. I STARTED TO READ THE BOOK AND WAS NOT ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN. I WOKE UP AT 2 AM AND WOULD START TO READ THE BOOK. IT HAD SOME WONDERFUL HISTORY, VERY TOUCHING MOMENTS AND JUST CAPTIVATED MY HEART. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE THAT LOVES TO PICK UP A BOOK AND NOT PUT IT DOWN UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED IT.I ALSO READ "ROSEBLOOM", CHRISTINE KELENY'S FIRST BOOK, AND THAT'S WHEN I KNEW I HAD FOUND A NEW AUTHOR TO LOVE. I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR THE THE SEQUEL TO COME OUT.THESE STORIES ABOUT THIS FAMILY ARE SO WONDERFUL THEY COULD BECOME A MOVIE. I JUST LOVE THESE BOOKS. THANK YOU CHRISTINE KELENY. - Cheryl Slinde--------------------------------Loved this book as much as the first one in the series, and although it is a continuation of Rose's life it is very different from the first. This made it fresh and kept me interested. Since my mother served as an army nurse in World War II and my father was a bomber pilot in the Pacific Theater this story line was of particular interest to me and brought to life this period in time. The book is very easy reading and I just ordered the net and can't wait to receive it! - Kathy
