When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin--one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin--and his world--forever.

This box set of the #1 New York Times bestselling series contains hardcover editions of the first three books: A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, and A Court of Wings and Ruin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! I love this book. It's kind of a twist on Beauty and the Beast. This author is great, I didn't think I would like this series more than her Thorne of Glass series but I was wrong.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great series Loved this series thought the last one was a little cramped at the end and you feel that the author is trying to tie up all the details in like a 100 pages and still your missing some info (tempo goes from slow in the first one (but you don't feel it) to like worpe speed in the last one). Great caracters all the way through and yes your going to want to see what happens after (new one to come but after the war). As for the set great present to offer though you can sometimes have a special where you'll get the individual book for 2 for 20$ so the set might be a little expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great series I loved the first two books but the last book in this series just wasn't as good as I was expecting. I was expecting a lot more considering the ending of the second book but it just felt like it was missing something. Hope there are more books in the series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST SERIES EVER This was an amazing, captivating, page-turner of a book!! If you are a fan of fantasy and you don't read this, you are missing out! I have read TONS of teen fantasy novels, and this series is by far the best (along with her other series Throne of Glass). You will not be disappointed at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVED!! Absolutely incredible series that its too easy to loose yourself in. Beautifully written, dark and twisty but so flawless and fast paced that you won't want to put it down. Picked I up at the library based on the cover and then promptly went out and bought the full set from here. Best decision ever, the series was so good....highly recommended! hoping the author keeps going with the universe! What an incredible journey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this! This book was the first of Mass's that I read, and her writing was so amazing that the day after I finished reading it I ran out to buy all of her other books. I would highly recommend not only this book, but all of Sarah J. Mass's books, they're utterly incredible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING SERIES This is one of my fav series. I bought the boxset because it is beautiful, only complaint: ACOWAR isn't the Indigo exclusive edition with the fan art.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing series! totally worth the box set! i love it! (there is a fourth book btw) but it centers less on the situation from this trilogy. it's like the selection series - first three books are about one main conflict, and then the other books center around a different conflict.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow beginning, but overall enjoyable It took me two tries to get into this novel but after pushing to get through the first 100 pages the pacing was a lot faster and it was a very enjoyable read, definitely recommend this series if you're a fantasy lover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING I had this book on my shelf for 3 months before I decided to read it simply because I didn't have anything else to read.... I couldn't put it down once I started and I ended up finishing it in one day! Sarah J. Maas really knows how to tell a story! The female protagonist is amazing! She's not super cliche, despite this being yet another curse-breaking faerie story. There were probably only 2 parts where I rolled my eyes at a dumb move she mad, but other than that, I was hooked from the beginning. Do yourself a favour and read this book! You won't be disappointed!
Date published: 2017-11-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game Changer I cannot express how much I loved this series. The first book starts very slow, but when the real story picks up I literally could not put it down. Realistic and compelling characters, thrilling plot with unexpected but delightful twists, and beautiful writing. One of my all time favorites.

Date published: 2017-10-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favourite re-telling! I love how this fairy tale is being re-told, it's new and yet you can still see links to the old story that it is based on. It is so imaginative and intriguing and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
Date published: 2017-10-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from love this new fairytale An enthralling blend of fairytale elements in an awesomely original world with characters you can't help but fall in love with

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCEPTIONAL EXCEEDED EVERY EXPECTATION THAT I HAD. THROUGH MY HEART TO THE WOLVES ONLY TO PULL IT'S, BATTERED AND BROKEN, PIECES BACK IN TO SEW THEM TOGETHER, JUST ENOUGH, TO MAKE ME WANT TO ENDURE MORE. A MASTERPIECE. SARAH J MASS IS AN INCREDIBLE AUTHOR.
Date published: 2017-10-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN I was hooked from the beginning - Feyre and the rest of the cast are fantastic characters - you'll be speeding to the end to move on to the sequels! I recommend being near a bookstore so you can buy the second and third book because you will NOT. WANT. TO. WAIT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh my gosh This book entirely was so mind blowing. I totally recommend. It was so amazing i am lost for words.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AWESOME When I heard this book was a retelling of beauty and the beast, I immediately put ACOTAR on the wishlist. I bought it and read it. The first 60 pages or so I think it was a bit boring, there were not a lot of action or anything going on. But I gave the book a chance and when I read more, action came pouring in. So keep reading and you will enjoy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST Read. This was my first Sarah J Maas read and it didn't disappoint. I love how kick ass and strong Feyre is for a female lead character. Also, it was an interesting to see this new twist on Beauty and the Beast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sarah J Maas does it again!!! This was a great introductory novel to a Sarah J Maas series! I loved the re-telling aspect of this story! (I am a huge Beauty and the Beast fan) I loved this story so much!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great read I adored this book, and read through it extremely fast. The novel hooked me in right from the first page, was beautifully written and extremely descriptive. I loved all the minor details that were taken care of and the setting and society. It was well developed, and not hard to understand the society and social order that the book revolved around. Another challenge that fantasy books face is to create a setting and a new world where everything adds up, and the history, creation, appearance, characters and everything is all tied together flawlessly and make it all click in together. This novel did exactly that. Great read.
Date published: 2017-09-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from love the boxset! fantastic gift for book lovers. if you love sarah j maas' books, definitely read this series! (in my opinion i think i like this one better than her throne of glass one - it's simple, but also really detailed in the character development and world building department)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Court of Thorns and Roses I love fantasy and fairies make for a great fantasy. A good beginning to the series.
Date published: 2017-09-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but gets better I re-read this book because the second (I heard) was so good. It was hard to start with but the second and third books in the series really really makeup for the first book. Give it a shot and you will not regret it.
Date published: 2017-09-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great My heart broke for Tamlin in this book. It's the first book in the series so my heart ached for Tamlin and Feyre. I couldn't wait to know what happens to them at the time I read this
Date published: 2017-09-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book It is a tad hard to get through the first few chapters but after a few chapters it picked up and became a very interesting read. I'd highly recommend this book
Date published: 2017-09-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tough Start but Picks Up! This book initially was very difficult to get through, wasn't until the last 1/3 of the book where things really picked up and got interesting... If you can make it through the beginning you should enjoy the book !
Date published: 2017-09-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get through the first book, you'll love the series I have to admit that I empathize with some other reviewers in that the beginning of the first book in the series is slightly agonizing as I struggled with the foolishness/ naivete of the main character. That said this series really thrives in books two and three. So if you're willing to stick out the first book I'm telling you that it gets better, much better, in the other books in the series.
Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay but disappointing.. I was really excited to read this initially, but as I read I found the plot to be weak and the main character to be foolish in the decisions she made. I also found that not much happened until almost 2/3 into the book. I think I will pick up the second book in hopes that the series does improve, but so far I am not very impressed.
Date published: 2017-09-02
Rated 4 out of 5 by from DECENT It's decent, but nothing really HAPPENS until the last third of the book & that's when everything really picks up. In the first 2/3, i was waiting for Feyre to get moving, to do THINGS & she was just content to stay there & be locked away. So it was a tad bit tedious but the last third made up for it :)
Date published: 2017-09-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it! I read the first book and half of the second before I realized who the author was and that she wrote one of my favorite series. Personally thought it was a great book.
Date published: 2017-09-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book!! i bought this solely because it was a beauty and the beast re-telling. it took a while to get into but i really enjoyed it in the end. after i finished reading it i could really see the beauty and the beast influence and it was written so wonderfully that sometimes i forgot about that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great It did Beauty and the Beast justice, great book

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it! I like this better than the Throne of Glass series! More romance and things that puts the romance between the characters at a higher stake. SO interesting to read
Date published: 2017-08-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! I fell in love with this book right away! Some people find the beginning to be a little slow but I enjoyed it very much, as I understood the author was laying the foundation in the very beginning. The character's are great and so is the storyline. I finished the last 150 pages in one sitting, could not stop!
Date published: 2017-08-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spectacular!!! I just finished reading this book and absolutely love it! Wonderful retelling of Beauty and the Beast that Sarah J. Maas has made her own. Great characters and well written. Can't wait to read the next one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Re-Read; Loved It More The First Time I read this book quite a while ago and instantly fell in love with it. This was also before I'd read Maas's other series, Throne Of Glass, which I've recently read, enjoyed, and checked off my TBR. After sitting down and thoroughly immersing myself in SJM's writing, I've come to realize it's simply not worth all the hype surrounding it. Sarah J. Maas is, in her own right, a wonderful novelist, but by no means is she the genius a lot of readers make her out to be. Yes, the male characters she introduces us to are absolutely gorgeous, but it's not enough for me to give her a top-spot as one of my favorite authors. Her writing style is juvenile at times, and at others, downright aggravating. Especially in her ACOTAR series - Feyre is constantly whining, complaining, giving out "vile gestures" - seriously, if only I had a dollar for every time SJM used this bloody phrase - and I don't think the males know how to communicate other than purring or roaring. When I first read this book, I gave it a full five stars. I was blinded by love and hype and thought SJM was God's gift to readers. Now, after exploring her writing style further and re-reading this particular book, clearly, my opinions have changed and that is no longer the case. I'm currently about 200 pages into ACOMAF; hopefully, this book will impress me more than the first. Recommended to fans of SJM, retellings, and fantasy lovers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favourite series ever I got into the court of thorns and roses world around the ending of last year and I am so glad I did. Lucien is and has always been my favourite character of the series. I am so excited to see the plans Sarah J Maas has with the world

Date published: 2017-08-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic A little bit of a slow start, but I really enjoyed reading it. I couldn't stop reading it and I had to go right to ACOMAF and then pre-ordered ACOWAR and the end of the second book. Obsessed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book once i got into it It took me a little bit to get into the book (was a little bit slow to start) but once I did, I was unable to put the book down. I would not recommend this book for young teens, but more of a young adult population. Feyre is a wonderful character, absolutely fell in love with her. Cant wait to read the second book!
Date published: 2017-08-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite series EVER. This series is so great for so many reasons! It has everything I need in a book - action, strong female, romance, mystery. The most notable quality about this series for me though is the incredible character development. Sarah J Maas knows how to create worlds and characters like no other author i've ever read. You will not regret this series! I wish it never had to end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I honestly could not put this book down! Great characters, plot and writing! New favourite book series!
Date published: 2017-08-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from New favourite book! I didn't think I would enjoy this book as much; I was told the second book was way better. I love the subtle nods to Beauty and the Beast, and Feyre has become my favourite protagonist! I can't wait to read the next two books!
Date published: 2017-08-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I really enjoyed this book. Well written and engaging characters. I can't wait to read all Sarah J Maas other books too!
Date published: 2017-08-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Bland NOT exciting, not original, not owrth reading on its own. The only reason I read it was because I loved her other series but was very let down with this. The only character of interest is barely in it and the only reason I would recommend this was to explain key plot points so that someone could read the second one and understand it.
Date published: 2017-08-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent book and series! Well worth the read! NOT FOR TEENAGERS though. This book was SO well written. I purchased it because I love fantasy and magic. I tend to purchase Y.A fantasy fiction over adult, because of the sex scenes and the adult content overall...I just prefer a fun adventure with less real-life drama I guess! Lol. But these books are AMAZING. I LOVED them. I plan on re-reading them....which says a lot. There are pretty racey sex scenes, particularly in the third book so I would NOT let a teenager read it...just not age appropriate. There were times i felt uncomfortable and I am 30 years old! I actually read a scene to my Mum...she then said she wanted to read the series! LOL But the character development and psychology is just awesome. Sarah J. Maas knows how to write!!!! Get it.
Date published: 2017-07-31
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great start to an amazing series This book is amazing, but it is the first shot at a new world so it takes a bit to get its legs, but trust me you want to stick with this series!
Date published: 2017-07-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay The book starts out well but then there is way to many clichés. But the last few chapters were awesome.
Date published: 2017-07-25
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Unpopular opinion... this book was terrible! It is not appropriate for young teens for one, the language is crude and at times very sexual in an awkward way. Fans of fifty shades may like this one. Also, the characters were downright annoying and the world wasn't very interesting. Very disappointed by this one.
Date published: 2017-07-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE! This was my first Maas novel that I have read, and I am hooked. It easily put her on my radar as my favorite author. I absolutely loved everything about this book and the entire series for that matter.
Date published: 2017-07-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good I really enjoyed this book. It took a couple chapters before I was feeling into it but after that it was hard to put down. It was creative and I really enjoyed the characters and world of Pyrithian. I can't wait to read the next ones!
Date published: 2017-07-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seemed familiar...at first It started off feeling very reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast...which definitely could have inspired it. Halfway through the book you realize that, ok maybe it isn't quite that similar. The characters are pretty awesome, and you grow to either love or hate them with a passion. I love how far in advance Maas thinks and leaves bread crumbs. If you've read the series the entire way through, you'll realize how it all ties together. She is one amazing story teller and I absolutely adore this series. If you need a new series to get super attached to (besides HP)...get started!
Date published: 2017-07-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it! After the Throne of Glass series, this is a little more sexy, a little more scandalous, and only starts to become like Throne of Glass near the end. I scream when I read these books, though, because some parts are predictable, but overall, there are twists and turns that you never see coming. Would recommend!
Date published: 2017-07-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from ACOTAR I started the book and couldn't continue on with it. However, I will pick this up soon & listen to the audiobook since everyone raves about it.
Date published: 2017-07-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Enjoyed This One! I was surprised that I actually enjoyed this book! Though I was a little disappointed because it was marketed asa retelling of Beauty of the Beast and there wasn't really much of that in here. I did really love the characters, though the plot was a little slow in the middle. I also found it predictable in some places which I wasn't really a fan of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So glad I didn't put it down My friends and family question how I can keep reading a book that drives me crazy. They think it's a waste of time (and they're usually probably right), but I can't do it. I can't quit once I've started. I'm committed. Thank God for that. If I'd given up I would have missed out on one of my favourite series. CoTaR is one of those books that makes a total 360 by the end. It starts off slow. The heroine goes from kick ass to boring. There's no conflict or driving force putting pressure on the protagonist for a long stretch, making a solid chunk of this book a boring pastoral of romantic meadows and meandering forrest. BUT THEN. Omg you guys. The last third of the book makes up for the first two, big time. Conflict, villain, action and gore and sexy tension and intrigue. It's great. You'll reach the last page and want to dive directly into Court of Mist and Fury to continue the adventure--and holy crap does the adventure get good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Court of Thorns and Roses I loved the idea of a fantasy about faeries. I am not a fan of Feyre, it seems like the author tried to make her a mix of Katniss and Mare with none of her own personality. I love Rhys an Lucien.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money on this one. There are better books out there. I read up to chapter 19 and couldn't go on anymore. This book is bad. So so so bad. I really wanted to like it, I really wanted to finish it. But I just couldn't bring myself to do it. This is a dnf for me. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a retelling mixture of Beauty and the Beast, East of the Sun West of the Moon, and Tam lin. The idea is good but the execution is poor. The plot is so slow it's not existent. The character development is very lacklustre. The world building is lazy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun read I just finished reading this book and I must say it was a bit different then what I expected. I love the fact that it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling but that Maas made it totally her own. Some aspects were similar, but it was definitely a brand new story. It is action-packed, full of fantasy and full of fleshed-out characters. I loved how each character has an obvious motivation for everything they do even if it is only explained later on in the book. I am looking forward to starting the next one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just Fun I liked the beginning of this book, but the ending felt so rushed and strange that I took away a star from what I would have originally rated it. Still, this was a fun read, and a good start to the series. If you didn't like this, I recommend still trying out the second book, because this is definitely the weakest book of the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Any book that you just plow through in days and then just sort of clutch to your chest afterwards is a keeper. I throughly enjoyed this and am even happier that I bought the second in the series at the same time. I was left guessing the entire time and thrilled with every twist and turn that occurred. The relationships were believable, the struggles real, and the heartbreak even more so. The characters were what made this so good, particularly Feyre, who as a main character had my support from start to finish. I'm a little choked that I have to wait until the third comes out in paperback because I know the wait will be brutal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUST READ FOR FANS OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Nerd rant: OMG. This book devoured me. Consumed me. Made me all swoony. Feyre and Tamlin had me like: DIE OF SWOONING. HOW CAN THE OTHER BOOKS END UP BEATING THIS? And the end was so breathtaking and dramatic that I nearly cried. (And can anyone else sense a future love triangle???) Nerd rant over. Back to all seriousness. While the cover has more of a rough/dark fantasy edge and is full of foreshadowing, the title was full of promise. Upon reading the description of the book, I concluded that this was another twist of Beauty and the Beast – my favourite fairytale. I didn’t quite know what to expect of a Court of Thorns and Roses, but I suspected it would have more of a Cruel Beauty feel. I was wrong. There were similar aspects to Cruel Beauty in a Court of Thorns and Roses, such as a young brave girl being forced to live with a monstrous, evil “beast”. Both Nyx from Cruel Beauty and Feyre from a Court of Thorns and Roses have to solve riddles to save their “beasts” and their people from an even more devastating and evil force. That’s pretty much where the similarities end. In a Court of Thorns and Roses, there are elements of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Hunger Games, and Game of Thrones. Politics, secrets, magic, and super-steamy sexual tension are wrapped up into one very attractive book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from for any beauty and the beast fanatic The first book of the series brings you into an fantastic magical world loosely based on beauty and the beast, where a beast/fae take a young women as his prisoner for murdering one of his subject and brings her over the wall into fae territory. Where she learns so much about the fae and their world that she has come to realize that things she has been told growing up are not quiet accurate. She falls in love with the beast and discovers that she is the key to breaking his and his courts curse. she travels under the mountain to face the one who cursed him and to get him back. She must face many dangerous trails and events that will determine the rest of her life and who she really is. It is one of my go to reads and brings me to a magical world and on amazing adventures. I highly recommend it if you are trying to escape from the real world and need a little adventure and magic in you life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fantasy Series! I really enjoyed the way the story flowed, and I found that the slower parts made for good development for the characters. Lucien is my favourite out of this book but Feyre is a close second. I just really connected to both of them and I enjoyed how their friendship formed. I really like how Feyre enjoyed art and sacrificed so much for her family, it made her tough and hard but also gave her a soft side that I could relate to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beauty and the beast meets hunger games Excellent story that keeps you on your toes pretty much all the way threw! At first things unforld like a romance novel more then anything and in the last 170 pages the book turns hunger games (yes violent and all). Very interesting caracters though I have to say I really like Lucien. If you liked Beauty and the Beast and Hunger Games you will like this novel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So very pleasantly surprised! I happened across this book when I was in the sale section and it was going for $8 I think. The cover fascinated me and although you're always told not to judge a book by it's cover, thank god I did. As soon as I started reading it, I was unable to put it down! The beginning reminded me a little of the hunger games, but that only really lasted the first couple chapters. I finished this book in roughly a day and immediately wanted the next one. Few books have ever made my heart flutter the way this does. It has the perfect mixture of kick ass girl power, intricacies of characters and romance. If you're into this genre of books, you will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! I have to admit that I was very hesitant to read this book because I loved the Throne of Glass series so much. That being said, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh Like many people I've forgotten what happened during the first half of the book. Why? because NOTHING really happens. The action, the real punch comes at the end. That's what makes the book memorable. Did we really need 500 pages? I don't know.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bland In the first chapter, she states that it's winter about 5 times. Then she describes the scenery for those who don't know what winter entails - like snow, hunger for those who need to hunt, cold temperatures, etc. The first half of the book is just meh. It's her just sitting around in the fae's mansion and not listening to what she's told to do... The second half of the book is the only reason it gets 2 stars instead of 0, or a DNF. It redeemed the book, and I actually started to enjoy reading it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Story I love the retelling of Beauty and the Beast mixed in with rivalry, fairies and a curse. The beginning seemed quite slow, but things really picked up the second half of the book. I don't want to give too much away, but if the beginning doesn't seem promising, it's definitely a lead up to what is to come the last half of the book!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Good Start A Court of Thorns and Roses is such a well received book in the reader community and beloved by fans of SJM's other series Throne of Glass. Praised for being a retelling of Beauty and The Beast and taking it's audience seriously at it's best, A Court of Thorns and Roses small misgivings are often overlooked. A Court of Thorns and Roses was a very long and boring read for me on all fronts. None of the characters stuck out as something more than the part they were playing, the plot was sluggish for the most part, and the romance did nothing for me. Feyre is a human girl who lives in a small cabin with her father and two sisters, living in poverty for the last 8 years after falling into some bad luck. Her older sisters are still accustomed to the lavish lifestyle their father was at one point able to keep for them and they heavily rely on Feyre for food and money. Feyre is a doormat. A begrudging doormat. A 'you're not like the other girls' doormat. Feyre is plain and ordinary, doesn't like wearing dresses until the plot demands that she look beautiful for the love interest, and doesn't seem to have any remarkable talents. Sure, she paints, but she's admitted to being limited with that and hunting was done out of survival. She's sort of a Bella Swan character where I guess all of this is suppose to make it easier for the reader to slip into her skin. She wasn't really a fun read for me. Most of all the other characters were pretty well developed. Tamlin is an alright love interest and Lucien was fun. I can't say much for the antagonists as they felt mostly 'there' because the book needed a villian. Rhys was only remarkable as I found him to be the Worst. Thing. Ever. I know that at some point in the next book a lot of the characterizations get table flipped. Tamlin becomes a 'tool' and Rhys becomes a doting lover to Feyre, thanks Tumblr. The plot. Eh, the plot happened. It plays out like most Beauty and The Beast retellings. Feyre is conned into joining Tamlin in the faerie realms to stay with him in his large house because she killed one of his sentinels. A good 3/4 of this book is her living blissfully in the Spring Court, prancing through flower gardens and star pools and parties. There's bits of tension here and there, but whenever things start gearing up into any sort of drama, Lucien and Tamlin are quick to cover Feyre's ears, only after she hears a snippet or two so she can complete her end game quest. The result is the last 80 pages becoming an info dump of why all this had to happen. It was somewhat painful to endure as a lot of the twists were easily seen coming. I'll admit to being biased here as Beauty and the Beast is my least favorite of the fairy tales/Disney films. The romance was suppose to be this slow burn thing but Feyre seemed to take to Tamlin right off the bat. There wasn't a lot of fighting him, she takes her from her home and she wonders what he looks like under the mask since what she sees so far looks pretty decent. Tamlin doesn't resent Feyre as much as many other Beast reincarnations resent their Beauty. The sex in A Court of Thorns and Roses doesn't bother me and it's pretty tame and generic 'vanilla' as far as sex goes, so I wouldn't go as far to say that you'd be subjecting your teenagers to vulgar material where morals are loose and the women/men are looser. The attempt to make Feyre more 'experienced' felt shoehorned in with the introduction of what I'd think is an attempt at a Gaston character, but nothing comes out of it. He's just there for the sole purpose for Feyre to gain sexual experience from to avoid any potential slut or virgin shaming. Just my take on it, sorry if that's not what the narrative was trying to imply. A Court of Thorns and Roses reads like a more put together Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms and I can see why people would jump ship from one series to the other. Sarah J Maas doesn't treat her audience like idiots though she does seem to cater to fans whims a lot. A Court of Thorns and Roses doesn't really add anything new to The Beauty and The Beast lore nor does it detract from the source material. Fans of The Beauty and The Beast and SJM's other series would be all over this as it's really not a bad read at all.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unpopular opinion time I was super excited for this book for a very long time. I love "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" and "Beauty and the Beast," and "Tam Lin," while not a favourite of mine, is still interesting. Those are the three fairy tales that ACOTAR is supposed to be based on. The book blurb was intriguing, too. But I'm really disappointed with the way this book turned out. I'm going to do my usual list thingy to point out the reasons it fell short for me. 1) Let's start with language. This is a medieval-flavoured fairy tale fantasy, and I feel like the language should match up with that to maintain the atmosphere. It did for the most part, except for occasional bits of dialogue. The characters kept throwing around words like "shit" and "balls." I say words like this a lot myself, so it's not like I have anything against them, but in this context, the words just sounded out of place. At one point, Lucien says (quite seriously I might add) "from the shit fires of hell." I thought to myself "Did I seriously just read that?" It sounded so stupid. Not tough or serious at all. Also, there was an overuse of the phrase "lethal and immortal." Yes, these creatures are lethal and immortal. We get the message. We got it the first time. Another overuse: Feyre constantly saying that she wanted to/could/could never paint something she was observing. 2) The story took way too long to come to action. The beginning had some, and that made me anticipate more, but what ensued was a boring love story that I felt no connection to. I didn't feel the emotional chemistry between Feyre and Tamlin. And there were eye-roll-worthy scenes, like when Feyre and Tamlin stripped down to their undergarments to swim in a pond and they kind of just stood there checking each other out. How original. 3) Plot-related: Before Feyre had to go fight for Tamlin, she ever so narrowly missed saving Tamlin from his curse. The conditions for breaking the curse were so specific that they hardly made sense and yet she almost, ALMOST met them. This part of the story was the least believable for me. I was going to finish the trilogy anyway, but now I know that the trilogy is actually going to be a much longer series, so I think I'm out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from meh.. 3.75 stars maybe?? Okay this book wasn't horrible, but I didn't love it. It's not that nothing interesting didn't happen but when it did, it couldn't keep my attention. And Feyre bothered me so much sometimes..all the characters tell her not to do something, FOR HER OWN SAFETY, and what does she do?? SHE DOES IT ANYWAYS!! And I feel like there should have been some major cliff hanger, it kinda ended as if there's no other book after this one. Although there was a lot...A LOT.. of stuff that bothered me, I also sorta enjoyed it and I'll definitely give the next book a shot...hopefully the next book is better
