In the dubiously apocalyptic atmosphere of 2012, Jane Lawrence and Robert Sandford embark on a spring break trip to the East Coast in the company of a young man who they gradually come to regard as a living urban legend: Ellis, who carries no cell phone and travels without any form of ID, evidently walking an uncertain line between being purportedly alive and reportedly dead. Jane and Robert find themselves unraveling Ellis' tumultuous history, which ranges from the Tibetan boarder to the Arab Spring uprisings. The city of Beirut seems to hold the explanation behind the scars on his wrists, as well as the dark affair he is now embroiled in, which has spilled out of the ether and into real life. Together, the three desperately work to undermine the plans to "capitalize on doom" being set in motion by an elusive malware organization known as "Brink" -- the vague moniker that has been haunting Ellis since Beirut.
