When two people meet and fuse to become one unit, nothing can cleave this cell. It is a union which becomes harder than a diamond. This book is about just such an unbreakable union. Thanks to a progressive teacher in the early 1970's who is given a class with an equal number of each sex. She pairs up the girls and a boys, informing them that they must help and support one and other at school. These two protagonists find that there is something else between them. The candle has been lit in their hearts. Despite the worst and best efforts of her father. This flame will not be extinguished. These two spend three happy, free and untroubled years and university. They then spend nearly a year of their working lives together in the same way. They are in in the bloom of their relationship and lives. When the girl is involved in an accident and a mix up of identity. Allowing her father to do what he has always wanted. He cleaves them from one and other in a cruel spiteful way. Families can be cruel to their own and we see the worst of this excess.

The boy from the age of 16 becomes a member of an ancient order of chivalry. He can trace his family back to the inception of this chivalric order in the 11th century. Since the age of eight this boy has practiced one particular Martial Art. These two organisations create in him the strength of character. To be able to resist and not react to the girl's father. This tenacious and steadfast character endears people to him. Who help and support the relationship, often placing themselves in danger. Later on his character encourages people to follow him into battle against evil.
