Robert Barr was born in Scotland but when he was four his family moved to Canada. Barr's works are often based on his own experience and reveal his personality: straightforward and even cruel at first sight but very kind when you take a serious look. On boards of the Atlantic steamships were a lot of gamblers. It was well known that that men make trips to and fro merely for the purpose of fleecing their fellow-passengers; but, except in one instance, I never had any experience with this sort of thing. At one day me and 3 other gamblers sat at the small table and played poker. Was the man at that company who wanted to despoil other gamblers? What story gamblers told each other while they were playing the poker game? Read it till the end to know the whole story!
