about

A magnificent epic inspired by the glorious world of the troubadours, A Song for Arbonne is celebrated novelist Guy Gavriel Kay's love song to medieval Provence.

Arbonne and Gorhaut--two lands as different as the sun and the moon drifting through clouds. In the south, the olive trees and vineyards of Arbonne flourish, and the troubadours fill the air with songs of love and desire. To the north, the history of harsh Gorhaut has been forged with blood and fire, and now a corrupt king and his ruthless advisor seek to conquer the warm, fertile lands of Arbonne. But for all their devotion to songs and a passion for beauty, the people of Arbonne will fight when invasion comes from the north.
GUY GAVRIEL KAY is the author of thirteen novels (most recently Children of Earth and Sky), and a book of poetry. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another great book from GGK! This time he weaves a tale in his version of medieval Southern France that brings together troubadours, mercenaries and nations. The antagonists of this book are a bit too cruel & evil but they certainly provide a stark contrast with the beauty and love shown in the land of Arbonne. I'm not sure what else I can say about Kay. His characters, settings and stories are top-notch. If you are a fan of his (especially Tigana), this book is definitely worth picking up. Can't wait to read the next offering from Kay (probably River of Stars).
