about

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shy, pretty, and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter . . . and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He's wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters . . . and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

Tessa Dare is theNew York Timesbestselling, award-winning author of more than a dozen historical romances. A librarian by training and a book-lover at heart, Tessa makes her home in Southern California, where she shares a cozy, cluttered bungalow with her husband, their two children, and a pair of cosmic kittens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Entertaining Read This book was not as good as the two others that I have read in this series however it was very enjoyable. The relationship between Madeline and Logan was very amusing and very honest. Dare created another down to earth and real female character who created a fictional husband so that she could focus on her sketches of animal anatomy instead of always being rejected by men at balls. Obviously things don't happen exactly how she planned them to but the story unravels in a pleasant and smooth way. I would recommend it to anyone who has previously read a Tessa Dare book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from At least it made me laugh I hate romance, but the title made me laugh my head off...so I read this for the giggles too...welp I can say romance is still not my genre, but at least I laughed at how ridiculous it was

Rated 5 out of 5 by from when a scot ties YOU in knots; I'm giving this all the knotty stars in Scotland. And beyond. WHEN A SCOT TIES THE KNOT was not only wonderful but it was so so much fun. It has so much self-deprecating humour to the extent that it never seems to take itself seriously, quietly throwing in a few good quips and snarks at the typical or overdone Scots romance plot, and yet an equal amount of sweetness and heat, with the perfect pinch of angst, to ensure you believe in this story, in the romance, 100%. The premise is ridiculous, in the most endearing way, the characters both slightly damaged but also both aware of their faults. We also have the most interesting cast of secondary characters (both those of flesh and blood and those with pincers or claws -- seriously, you have to see it to believe it) that really bring out the best in our leads. I'm definitely going to be reading the rest of this series and keeping an eye on whatever else Dare releases (or rather, chewing through her substantial backlist). The best kinds of romance books (in my opinion) are those that make you feel, yes, but also make you laugh and this author has a writing style that manages both.. often at the same time. She embraces the cliches, makes you love them, makes them work for the characters and still manages to surprise you. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweetly written romantic fantasy. Tessa Dare's sweetly written romantic fantasy is a treasure. When a Scot Ties the Knot is a beguiling historical read. It's witty, touching and a fantasy come true. Insecure Madeline thought that pretended to be something she wasn't would make her happy. But it turns out being her true self is what made her better. Rated 5 out of 5 by from from the first I was hooked From the very first letter Maddie wrote her fake beau I was hooked. She has a sense of humor that just slays me and I couldn’t wait to see how much of a hole she ended up digging for herself. I wanted to put in an example of something that tickled me so very much but I realized that so much of it was context and delivery, which means that you have to get your own copy to find out :) Maddie has to be one of my favorite heroines. While she suffers from a debilitating case of social anxiety, in her element she is smart, sassy, and caring but a little bit of an odd duck (and that’s just fine). She looks out for those she holds dear and she has a grand interest in nature. Her only issue is that darn, fake fiancé … the one that is now back from the dead. And too sexy for her own good! I love how much Maddie’s letters came to mean to Logan while he was fighting - and how hard he’s trying to not show it. He had a bad childhood that bled straight into war. He’s never had a soft moment, a truly caring person in his life, and the only bright spot is the men in his command. The men that now have no home or family of their own and for whom Logan is going to do everything he can to make them happy. And that’s where Maddie and her deception come in. These two together are a hoot and a half. They have so much going against them, and are an absolute riot when they clash, but as they get to know each other they realize that they could make something real out of a whole lot of fiction. The question is if they are willing to expose themselves and give their heart & trust to another. (I’ll let you in on a secret – they do, because this is a romance :)) (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exuberant, Moving & Wildly Romantic! 4-4.5 Stars | Hot Steam Exuberant, moving and wildly romantic, When a Scot Ties the Knot transports and utterly transfixes from its blissfully perfect cover to its tender and triumphant happily ever after! Infused with an abundance of warmth, humor and passion so white hot you’ll catch fire, this winning tale will keep you up all night, smiling, swooning and shedding more than a few joy-filled tears as Maddie and Logan find their way into each other’s hearts one hilarious and heated hurdle at a time. Maddie is a rare and radiant character whose appeal grows with each turn of the page. Endearing, relatable and entirely lovable, I treasured her—sympathizing with her plight and delighting in her effervescence, vulnerability, cheekiness and wit. She’s an outstanding heroine and the ideal match for her craftily conjured Captain-come-to-life, the world weary and soul-hardened Logan MacKenzie. And, oh my goodness… He. Is. Heavenly! A towering wall of strength and virility, that brave, loyal, confident, commanding and cocksure male masterpiece is Maddie’s—and all living breathing females’—secret fantasy and stormy new reality. As his coldness dissolves into kindness, Logan reveals a softer, playful and entirely new level of supreme sexiness—following through on every one of his wickedly tantalizing vows and falling madly in love with his Maddie. It’s breathtaking and beautiful to read! Truly, their magical chemistry and inspired connection is unparalleled perfection and a true highlight of the Castles Ever After series. I highly recommend this sensational and timeless must-read romance, not only to fans of Tessa Dare who have, no doubt, already pre-ordered and are counting down the hours until it appears on their door step or e-reader, but to romance lovers everywhere who seek an uplifting, sublimely sensual and simply unforgettable love story. Just prepare yourself for a doozy of a book hangover! Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.
