Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Good I had a hard time getting behind the protagonist's motivation - it seems she has none, aside from making friends and exploring the strange islands of the Abarat. I kept going though, and I wasn't disappointed. If you want to dive into someone else's imagination for awhile, this is a good place to start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! This book is a great balance between the Narnia series we all love and The lord of the rings, a more adult read. This book transports us into a bizzare and majical realm that i beleive demonstrates the darkness of our world and the wonders of its pass life. Candy is a clasic confused little girl that knows that she is different but dosnt really know why or what is so special about her. This book is a great first installement to this series. I cant wait to read the next installement! I could not put it down and i could not wait to get home from school and read it everyday. The only negative thing i would have to say is that this book is dark and scary sometimes, somthing i myself am not used to reading in such childrens novels.
